Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

    Ohhh, that's terrible....

The thing is, I don't have an iOS7 device anymore and ios7 simulators don't work anymore with the recent Xcode. Apple makes it impossible to test on older OSes than the current and previous one.

However, I made a change that hopefully fixes the bug. Can you contact me via the Feedback form in the app so that I can send a beta version to you?

    Best,
    Johannes

  • Hi @JohannesD that'd be great. Doing that now.

I was gutted to find My iPA back up of Midiflow is version 1.0, which means no access to all the cool stuff of V2 and IAPs.

Fingers crossed for the beta. :)

  • I think I fixed the iOS7 issues now. I've also added the requested Bluetooth support. I will submit this after some more testing.

  • Do i need to buy IAPs along the initial price if i just want to filter out some Midi CC`s?I want to use it with my BassStation 2.The BS is nice to control other synths but has some parameter that sends TWO Midi CCs (like Cutoff). Can be confusing for some apps.

  • @JohannesD

Hey Johannes, have you considered adding a dark mode? Given the very few colors MidiFow uses, it might not be too difficult to do, and would be so much nicer on the eyes when playing in a dark environment

  • @Crabman
With the base version, you can only filter out all CCs. If you want to filter out specific ones, you need the IAP.

    @nick
Yes. I'm really busy with two other apps right now, but after that, I will add this.

Wait, two other apps? iMIDIPatchbay? And?

  • Aw, come on man. Have a heart!

  • Well, you have my TestFlight account already so at least there's that.

  • yes, don't worry :)

Hi, I just want an app that can make garage band respond to only 1 midi channnel and not al of them (omni). can Midiflow do this? and if possitive will this feature requiere an in-app purchase (Suggestion: increase the price reasonably and get rid of in app purchases, thats a big turn off to possible new users)

    thanks in advance.

I respectfully disagree. I think Midi Flow has struck a nice balance between price for base app with fairly priced IAPs. The IAPs are quite specialised, I used the app for months before I purchased the first IAPS and a couple of weeks later, the second IAP. The latest third one I haven't needed just yet, but I know it's there should I need it, for which case the price will be worth it.

As mentioned in another thread regarding payment structure, it is a good thing the app developers have a mechanism that can ensure they can still monetise on their apps, without being expected to do free upgrades for forever. As someone said, an app without IAPs is much more likely to become abandonware.

So, IAPs might be holding you back. For me they are at times a stamp/proof of continued interest and development in the app, which I prefer. Just saying. :)

  • I agree with @hellquist . I haven't bought the IAPs because I don't need them.

Ok then you have a point there, forget that part, but can Midiflow make garage band respond to only 1 midi channnel and not all of them (omni).

I only have my iPhone 6S+ at hand right now, but unless I'm missing the midi settings in GB somehow the answer would be "no".

You would need to be able to set the receiving app (GB in this case) to only listen to midi from Midi Flow. Without being able to set that any midi signals could run around MidiFlow to the promiscuous GB who will accept any input.

The point of using MidiFlow is to ensure all midi goes in/out via it, and then you can trigger/convert almost anything to something else. If apps run of the outside of MidiFlow those benefits are negated.

  • You can set up virtual channels in Midiflow, so you could reroute them in midiflow.

Virtual Channel 1 receives channel 1 from App1
Virtual Channel 2 receives channel 2 from App1

Then listen to the channels on the relevant tracks in Garage Band. That might work.

  • Quick question
Can you remap sysex to midi CC or the opposite ? I am big fun of pure data and mobmuplat , but sysex input does not work so Midiflow is my only choice.

  • Out and about with the family so can't test. Have you looked here @Korakios?

Forgot about the wonderful manual. It seems it's not possible but thanks anyway @hellquist
I understand that sysex is not popular and 99,9% is only found on hardware so I'll have to figure something else...

  • It IS possible to send SysEx messages. It is called "Message" in Midiflow and can be any MIDI command.

I am talking about re-mapping midi CC to sysex or the opposite :)

  • Million Thanks!!!! I admin my eyes (and braincells) are a bit burnt these days...but promise I will find the IAP button!

  • Have it - yes.

    Use it - not yet.

What would the major uses be for this app as you see it or use yourself?

This is to anyone. PM me if you want.

I never figured the best use for this app. Fiddled here and there - nothing exclusive.

I saw the developer really involved so bought it while back. Kind of put app on backburner.

  • @RustiK
I use it mainly for hardware that doesn't support midi mapping . There are also some apps that don't support midi learn and have fixed midi mapping. (impc ,thor, beathawk). With midiflow you can use one controller for all.

  • Promiscuos is a good wor to describe GarageBand Midi implementation, Ok then, will Midiflow enable me to send midi messages to SampleTank app using my Grifin Studio Connect Interface? (I havent been able to do this directly)

  • This should work, yes.
