Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • Yawl are giving great recommendations. Defle mask has like ace engine and arcade board six as well as your new genesis etc! Its a tracker but you don't have to use it like that. Caustic is another dope freaking pp the has never crashed and rolls modulars FM and well like alot/ Cheers on the quest.

  • hey wasn't there a trick to get to caustic's fx page? tanks I forgot.

  • sound effects like posted above. coins, lasers and so on.

No trick needed. It’s been added to menu.

I got Moby Chip, I think it's fantastic.
Edit: I've had some troubles figuring out the UI, but I'm slowly understanding.

Danny Bliss, Moby Chip is great and destroys the competition by being immediately usable. Once I learned what all the icons along the top did (15 min learning curve maybe?), it was smooth sailing.

  • One or 2 inside Korg Gadget as an IAP also…

Thank you Danny. I've never used a tracker or similar. I've been exploring Moby Chip this afternoon and reading the manual.
It was the "per note" approach that confused me- how to choose a new sound, how to make the glide stop etc. Now I understand. I want to make sure no one imagines the Moby Chip interface to be difficult, it isn't at all, it's that I'm not good with software in general.

Moby Chip is a ton of fun, runs smoothly, and sounds great.

And for more 'chip tune' stuff, here's a seminar by the dude who wrote the firmware for some of the pocket operators...

I skimmed it and was blown away with this fact

For anyone interested, slides 20 ff, roughly at 17:40 ;)

Not exactly 'chip-tune'(other that the 'composition style') but it's quite funny that old Amiga MODs get proper re-makes :sunglasses:

    Here's the original...

  • Thanks, I always thought the code was funny but yea this way nicer now.

    Nice remix!

Have you ever visited https://www.remix64.com/ ?

C64 and Amiga remixes, recently celebrated their 20th year. there's some fantastic music on there.

    Yepp!

Prefer the somewhat 'raw' originals from HVSC (https://www.hvsc.c64.org)
Got Modizer installed on both my iPad and iPhone, when the urge kicks in :sunglasses:

I’ll check that app out for my iPad, thanks! I use zxtune on my android phone when out and about.

I figured you were a SID fan from a few posts I spotted over the past year.

Agreed, the raw sound is like nothing else. For those unfamiliar, this is the kind of stuff we used to listen to as kids in our bedrooms, the modulation on this track is crazy

(Yes, it’s “inspired” by pink floyd and Philip glass but it’s still amazing)

Or Parallax by Martin Galway which is heavily inspired by non other than JMJ :sunglasses:

I guess @Samu might be the best one to answer this…

I find myself, once again, trying to make a rhythmic fast arpeggio. Funnily enough, it’s the arp at the end of Parallax (above).

Previously, I have automated the volume in cubasis to simulate ADSR because every synth I’ve tried retriggers the envelope. It’s a bit of a pain, and I’m wondering if there is another way.

Are there any apps on iOS that do not re-trigger the adsr envelope when playing arpeggios or sequences?

Also, are there any apps that can re trigger a sequence or arp when you play a note but keep it playing when you release the key, letting an envelope control the volume.

As if I’m not asking for enough already, I’d like some options on the oscillator waveforms to add some colour.

I guess in the context of synthesisers, not CPU controlled music, this kind of behaviour is a bit niche. Asking for the arp to run at 20-40ms intervals as well, I’m probably asking for too much.

You actually have quite a few options...
Square Synth 2, SunVox, SidTracker 64, Synthmaster 1 & 2 to name a few and my personal absolute favorite Drambo!

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/5pi3kv9x6zk6dww/DramboChipArp.MP4?dl=0
That's one way to create a classic chip-arpeggio...

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/wdkj5lb34z422v4/noise2.mp4?dl=0
This is more specific pitched 'digital noise' using sample & hold module.

And well, Drambo is a 'playground' so another arpeggio variant...
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/e59tst7q4s98tx4/chippie.mp4?dl=0

And here's a 'remake' of the C64 Arkanoid percussion.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/hyalvvklw1z2jlg/anoid.wav?dl=0
(Audio Only since it uses some features only present in the next Drambo update).

All these types of 'things' will be a LOT easier to do when the next Drambo update drops...

But yeah, Chip stuff is very close to my heart :sunglasses:

    Cheers!

Awesome, thanks for sharing those examples!

synthmaster 2's sequencer gave me the best result so far but the pain point is changing between chords (maj / min etc). Well that and the puzzle box that is synthmaster 2

I promised myself I wouldn't buy any apps this month but it appears you just convinced me to get drambo. Clearly, as I've read many times, it is the solution to everything :)

By the way, I'm working on a parallax remix which has started to turn into a mini EP with plenty of nods to tangerine dream. Despite the style, I need those arps, they are the driving force to the end section.

    Once again, thanks!

  • Not IOS but DOPE

  • Ok sue me. NOT iOS but THIS chip tune mammerjammer is $199.00 and works on 6AA batteries AND has its own speaker , AND has a looper .
