Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Are you familiar with Virtualhere? virtual hotswapping of USB devices to another computer

Virtualhere is a useful application for some contexts in respect to midi controllers
now granted there are many other method of doing things that virtual here will do...

here are a couple of examples...
with usb to rj45 ethernet connecting 2 computers...
this will allow hot swapping midi controllers from one computer to the other computer....provided your other computer has all drivers set to recognise the midi device....

so basically this virtualhere allows for hotswapping of USB devices across computers...

how it works is
after installing the server side Virtualhere... it recognises other virtualhere clients on the network...allowing you to essentially hotswap any devices connected to your servers computer USB ports...

useful if you want to also have a mouse and keyboard switch between computer and effectively be controlled by the same mouse and keyboard.... or as is the case with midi controllers being swapped between computers

it does work with USB connected SSD's,HDD etc... but with a warning!!
becos one needs to be mindful of the writing aspect of a HDD or SSD and hot swapping while the drives are in operation... this will lead to corruption of the drives...
so although it can be used in that context... be aware of the implications!!

there is a demo version of the virtualhere application which allows for 1 usb device to be accessed from the server side.. (then install the client on the other computer whether mac/windows/linux etc)

So one of the considerations when making the purchase of the virtualhere application...
is the computer which the server goes on...
normally this is the computer that has the most USB devices connected to it....

some things you need to be aware of!!
when the initial bootup takes place of a virtualhere client computer... you will need to have a keyboard and mouse attached... to initialise the client... or to enter a windows password on initial bootup...
the reason being... the client hasnt activated...

so putting the client in autobootup mode can mitigate that... but you cannot get around the windows password being entered(this requires a physical keyboard or bluetooth keyboard usb dongle etc)
the reference to autobootup mode is making the virtualclient autorun on windows or mac or linux... is making the client kick-in and activate automatically

by having a USB to ethernet cable plugged in directly... allows for the server to connect...without need for a wifi connection.. although a Wifi could be used... but the initialisation of the wifi has to take place in order for the client to be recognised by the virtualhere server(which brings us back to a keyboard mouse)

the USB to ethernet gets around that problem! as the connection is always established when the client side is activated locally across the USB to ethernet cable....

  • btw there is no virtualhere client for iphones & ipad IOS...
