\\\\Dry Eyes-what do you do?///

So curious as many of us are on screens a lot. I have been really having a problem with dry eyes. I go see a retinal Dr once a year and he was like dude... your eyes are hella dry. I have been using drops, but then came across a discussion on non preserving drops that you can use more often. Just bought some of those to see if they will help. I started with a gel at night, WORD of warning do this as you are ready to sleep as i could not see shit. 🤪.

Anyone use blue light lenses? Do they help you?

Cheers

  • Maybe look into dealing with any general physical imbalances. Eg problems with digestion, allergies etc? Do you get dry skin too for example?

  • good thread. Had an eye injection the other day.

Probably not for dry eyes but grapeseed extract is something Id recommend as the backbone of eye health whilst you get all lasered and injected up.

I think theres enough evidence to see it justified.

  • Blue light lenses. I might buy some that fit over glasses.

  • Evidence. Not that many journels but it seems like it stalls AMD ( induced in mice ) and stalls, oxidisation which leads to scarring ( either from the disease or laser treatments to combat disease ) and essentially stalling more blood vessel growth, which is also a process of scarring ( I think )

Thats a point. If I read correctly AMD in mice is induced. I guess its not likely that you can order mice with AMD. ( Age related macular degeneration )

  • How can we be sure dry eyes arnt also linked to poor nutrient feeding to eye. When you see a dry plant. Some people will say its because its too dry outside. Where as it might have poor nutrition.

    Try some grapeseed.

( note Im not entirely promoting my vineyard )

  • warm eye compress

  • My sort of dream now ( which will likely pass asap )

Would be to find a cure for blindness, without probably going full Transcendance but if I need to build a solar array ( next to my vineyard ) then so be it.

  • I’m guessing you may well have been here already - but general dehydration can cause dry eyes, the body prioritises other areas to take the water to.

  • Could be bleathariteous
I've no idea how spell it. Lol
Don't use soap, just warm water

  • Thanks for the suggestions!!! It could be a combo of things for me... not enough water and way too much screen time. I did try the warm compress and that felt good.

I also told my wife that increased intimacy would help and she laughed hysterically at me.......... ☹️

I use a product called GenTeal. Yup, age and screen time are the culprit for me it seems.

Increased intimacy would definitely cut down on screen time.

  • Blue light lenses have helped me a bit. Getting depressed and having a good natural cry helps too.

Damn @onerez, you found the ABF dry eye expert! I struggle (a bit) with this daily. It is indeed Blepheritis and is a result of oil glands in the eyes shutting down with age. You can have a test that will determine how many you got left and the degree of inflammation involved. I have maybe 10% left. How dry I am 😂🤣😭😳!

The symptoms are varied. The cornea dries out and becomes deformed (not permanently as the cells renew). This for me is the worst cause as the day progresses my reading ability becomes progressively worse. Other symptoms are, obviously, dryness, scratchiness, itchiness, redness and Lochness (couldn’t resist, sorry). One of the weirdest is not being able to immediately open my eyes 👀 (is that the eye emoji or the two over easy emoji?) upon awakening.

It is irreversible, but treatable somewhat. Learn to squeeze your eyes shut several times an hour. This stimulates what oil glands you've got left. I don’t do this cause it also must cause wrinkles and I’m still waiting for that perfect someone. But for you, no problem.

Warm compress very soothing and two products: OcuSoft Lid Scrub a few times a day,
and Hypochloric acid (not hydrochloric, ouch!). Lid scrub first and Hypochlor (brand name) second. Read the instructions.

One is prone to inflammation and possible conjunctivitis. There is a prescription product, Restasis that is an ocular antibiotic if you get in trouble. Definitely preservative free drops like refresh, as the nonpreservative ones mess with your intraocular eye pressure. Make sure you have those eye pressure checks regularly for sign of glaucoma.

Welcome to the dry eye club... I’m trying to think of a joke about the assisted living facility and not a dry eye in the house, but, unfortunately it’s just the opposite.

Too many working parts in this fucking machine. Why couldn’t I have been born a sentient smooth orb revolving Antares... now that’s the life!

Good luck and don’t be too concerned. It’s dealable, like most things. At least it’s not the dreaded Dry Ear! Happy holidays!

  • From some basic research ( not that it concerns you ) hopefully ever.

Your neck plays a key role in some eye problems. Specifically eye strokes. Your neck is arterties obviously where plaque can travel.

But im not a doctor and it could be skewed info.

  • Quit smoking. Hit the bag. Remix eye of the tiger in aum.

  • I think Iv got a condition called Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. Will need to ask on next appointment but it were definately choroidal vasculopathy. Its basically blood vessel growth and slightly off centre vision problems that arnt easy to diagnose, in comparison to AMD. Its unusual to affect someone my age and more likely to affect Asians and Africans, then Caucasion.Think first noted in the 90's. Glad I bought grapeseed as it might halt more vessel growth ( thats if it is condition ) Eye injections arnt pleasant and 2nd injection might be worse as you know after the intial scratch come the dull input of either needle or solutions but few days after is worse for scratchyness, dryness feeling. Its actually still there like a cat has scratched my eye. Treatments seem to be injections and photodynamics ( and more ) PD is basically injections or a drink that builds up in body so when they direct light. The solution stops condition but its not that available in UK and could cost up to £10.000 for courses. They will probably just give injections. Thats why I noted the grapeseed also. If it halts scarring etc. A case study for an eye condition with grapeseed were to prevent scarring from an argon laser ( checks to see if there is actually an argon laser ) yep Argon lasers are real.

Grapeseed is an anitoxident supossedly more so than vit e and c and oxidisation can lead to scarring?

  • I gathered this info from a few lines of warped text. So if in doubt. Consult your specialist.

Eye drops, keep screen at as low of a brightness as you can, while still having the adequate amount of brightness. They sell blue light glasses. Edit - I see these have been mentioned.

I drink lots of water eat lots of fruit. It seems to bother me more when I have contacts on. Also try to keep devices at recommended distance.

Pop on some Elliot smith, let it out. Lol. Or maybe go other way pop on something heavy and dance, headbang, bounce it out.

  • I almost always have the “night shift” mode on. My glasses also have a blue light filter, though I don’t wear them all the time. The other thing that helped a lot was this “paper like” screen protector. Someone here mentioned it on the forum and I like it a lot. Also helps with the “tactile” feel and with the Apple Pencil. I’m sure it’s not for everyone.

+1 on drinking water. Silver colloidal drops can help too. But a lot of eye health does come down to diet.
