Why are you so easily bothered?

Was it something I said?
Is it possible I didn’t say what you read?
Do sharp words leap from screen, cause u bloodshed?

How much effort did it take to be offended?
Blood pressure and heart rate rise while you read it?
Guess you must read it right, plus respond in hopes to have it amended?
Just curious, would that spikey post exist if you never read it?

Get it?

Do racists, homophobes, sexists, ageists and all other-ists vanish if we mute their expression?
Or do they just fester in silence, some even moving to expression thru violence?

What if the next poster scorned and banned for using words,
Becomes America’s next mass shooting scourge?
Before social media that woulda sounded absurd
But in todays US, bots and trolls are a major election polls’ curse.

Real shit.

So words can hurt.
No doubt, but our response is usually worse.

There are real things to be upset about.
What happens on music forums shouldn’t make that list.lol
Learning what to ignore and avoid is key to being a successful, happy and well balanced adult.
Places where everyone speaks the same and smiles all the time sounds more like a Cult.

Here’s an exercise I call “Not giving a fuck”

...if while reading an OP or otherwise enjoying your day and you happen past something that offends...immediately stop reading it and move to the next comment/post.

I realize that exercise may sound easy.

What you wouldn’t believe is how much easier it is to do than it was for me to type. And yes, you can develop muscles with it 🧠 ;)

PS. Apparently someone managed to get themselves offended by my SN. Obviously Willie Negus isn’t my name and yes it’s pronounced just as it looks. I’m only addressing this because the person “offended” is supposedly also a person of “color”. Not sure I believe em but whatever.lol

Let’s explore my SN For “Bro”...

Willie - Northeastern American street vanacular that discribes the ambition to make big bills (cash), created by those with nothing nor the typical means to acquire anything valuable. William is a name that when shortened becomes Bill. Follow?

I came from the projects. I would be considered a Big Willie now where I’m from because I managed to escape my hood alive, earn well, own a home in the Burbs, American dream etc...I’m an exception, not the norm. Thus, Willie.

Please note, not being offended by shit was one of the chief factors in my achieving Willie status. Focusing on that which you can control does wonders for self improving;)

Negus - A word of African decent used to denote a ruler, supreme ruler even but was frequently just used as a term of indearment amongst bros back day. Slave traders didn’t like the “savages” using their native tongue. In fact, Negus were routinely slaughtered for such. Once on boat or in their new land, slave traders robbed these slaves of their tongue and gave them new ones. Part of that was turning the word Negus (Ruler) to Niggers (Livestock). Best way to control people is make them embrace being less than what they are or changing their meaning no? Happened over the course of a few hundred years until Negus thought themselves Niggers. Many in my country still do and are actually blamed for it which is hilarious.lol. Gas light much?

Anyways, this didn’t sit well with the strong spirit inside even those Negus “broken” over the course of hundreds of years by strategic “breaking” that persists to this day. Hip Hop flipped Nigger into Nigga so the word couldn’t cut anymore and it made many of us millions. Hip Hop now rules as perhaps the world’s greatest expressive culture. Coincidence? Ya think?

Subconsciously I suspect we always knew we were Negus and just spelled it wrong in the “Kings” language. Or perhaps you heard it wrong.

Fast forward to 2018....I’m nobody’s nigger or nigga. Me and mine are Willie Negus. Get it?

Really don’t care if you do actually. What’s important is expression and defining meaning which I’m great at. How people recieve it is on them.

Hope no one managed to get themselves offended reading all of this shit.lol

Peace and Won Love to All.✊🏽✊🏻✊

  • You feel better now....

  • I always feel Great. As I wrote, control what you can control. I control my attitude and how I feel...which is Great.

    How about you?

  • Honestly I feel VERY sorry for you,you need HELP.

  • Taking your advice and moving on to next topic.

  • @WillieNegus this is an awesome post. I never knew any of that, well almost none, being a white guy from a northeastern town which is mostly whitebread. Call yourself what you will I’ll call you what you want me to call you. I respect you as a man and an extremely creative guy. I just read two of your posts and you’re killin it!

Anyhow, great to read you my friend.

  • Good lyrics, put a beat and bass to them. I want to hear it become music.

I appreciate your kind words @kinkujin Granted this is just my POV and observation and I imagine some will no doubt manage to be offended or bothered somehow. Such is life but thanks bro!

@Beathoven fusho fusho will and has made it into many songs. Thanks for reading.🙏🏾

To those bothered or offended by my words ...I love ya’ll too <3

Feel free to express yourself. I don’t have to agree with you to respect your right or experience that led to however you feel.

Why? He did an off topic post giving advice that’s actually good! He doesn’t need help, he is helping. The one that needs help, positively, is the guy who got offended by his forum nickname. I don’t want to know or speculate who the guy is - let’s not stir this pot.

    Cheers.

Yes! Or a Hip Hop beat! Go for it, @WillieNegus!

Ah, Willie... Sacred ground. So that is the origin of the infamous word. It is a free country so far and we are blessed by the first amendment. I certainly do not think you need help and I was interested in reading your thoughts and feelings. Sounds like you learned to play the game, which is, after all, what the American Dream was. We got in under the wire.

Hip hop the world's greatest expressive culture. Hmmm... I thought hip hop was out of date. Anyway, that's a musical question, thank goodness and many would disagree. I guess I would be one. Most expressive would mean greatest dynamic range of expression, no? I think there would be other musical forms that might fill that slot of world's greatest... Grand Opera? 😜 😎 Well, you did say perhaps, and rap music is very expressive ( is hip hop a subgenre of rap, or vice versa?) and energy filled.

I must mention, before someone who might not like your style as I like you, as I do, sticks it to you. "Willie" has another meaning ,as you must know. Hopefully I have defused a caustic remark. I know you can take it but I really don't think you are looking for antagonism. Just speaking up for yourself. And it is "off-topic". I hope others will recognize that, follow your advice, and peace will reign.

I must say, though, that your solipsistic philosophy that none of us exists outside your mind is more charming than this Declaration of Independence and endeared you to me, Happy Holidays to me, Willie, since i made you up!

Seriously, I wish you the best for the new year,
Mike ( my real made up by my folks) name.

Can you imagine that is exactly the way I felt too when I started to read the post :)

Taking the time to write, are you sure you’re not bothered? :D

    Mike you're one slick Willie

You consistently make me LOL @LinearLineman !!! :D A gem around these parts you are.

Glad you read the “perhaps” part as I was submitting that Hip Hop can be considered (see charts, numbers and social impact) as most expressive not that it definitively IS. I love all types of music and when I mention hip hop, I’m not just talking music. It’s an expressive Art/Culture.

I’d love to write a Hip Hop opera Btw. Hamilton (Play) is cool and did much to introduce rap to a broader audience. Could a Grand Hip shop Opera do the same?

Thanks @theconnactic ! Man you guys are dope. Honestly expected everyone to just skim past it. The fact that it made any impact here is amazing and inspiring. Big up to the forum at large!

@Samu that’s big time coming from you. Your analytic skills are well documented across a few spaces I visit online.

Also, I sincerely hope no one is wasting any of their valuable sympathy on me. Feeling sorry for someone like me is wasted energy. Surely one can find better initiative.

I personally only feel sorry for those who can’t help themselves as they are typically of no assistance to others.

    Many thanks!🙏🏾

If by any chance I miss acknowledging any kind words tossed my way....know that I greatly appreciate you. Even those who aren’t agreeable, I appreciate your attention and hope something you read made you think at the very least.

  • By the the way I’m fully with that not easily offended line of thought. Stay inspired man

  • Not offended, but I think it can be offensive for some, which is not good whatever the reason.
Thanks for sharing though, this is how I learn who to engage with and who to ignore.
It's not the name, but the content.

Likewise. This is also a great example of how a mature adult with opposing views expresses themselves with respect for themselves and others.

    Thanks.

  • I’m not personally offended by this, or by much else, but i do believe in respecting others. If someone doesn’t like to be called “apple” then i don’t do it, whatever the reason, not my issue, not my fight, not my whatever. If billy wants to be called william i am not going to keep calling him billy and tell him not to be offended. Everybody should work on themselves and be less offended, because of course some people will continue, but ...be kind.

  • i thought this was a mobile music forum.

That’s why this is flagged as off-topic, one of the best content off topic ever posted here btw (thank you, @WillieNegus). But this might as well be lyrics to a folk or hip hop song, so it’s at least tangentially related to our beloved mobile music. Cheers!

I agree. In fact, @Fruitbat1919 pulled my card once about a comment I made about “weanies”. I wasn’t addressing anyone specifically but just making a general comment about hyper sensitive folks.

Through discussion with @Fruitbat1919 I realized that my sarcasm or dismissive humor could be weaponized and used to hurt someone. Now...I won’t cure my humor or way of sarcasm overnight. Who can? And how short is life? But I’m more aware now than I was before he mentioned it. Shit, for all I know “weenie” might have been a word used during some horrible abuse that some poor soul suffered.

Just because I couldn’t afford to become who I am had I not developed the ability to dismiss that which doesn’t deserve the investment of me paying attention...doesn’t make lesser folks of those without the ability or philosophy.

Can I be a Di....Willie? Sure.lol. However, i try to be kind. Which is why I chose to explain my SN to the guy who was offended that I was somehow making light of a word hurtful to him. He may never agree of my POV on the matter but hopefully, he can respect my truth or interpretation of it.

  • Not a bad post. A little bit long and could possibly use an edit... but he's right. People get way too bent out of shape over stuff that in the big scheme of things, doesn't really matter much. I know I've been guilty of that too. So, well done. :)
