Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

oscope, spectrum analyzer?

edited August 2017 in General App Discussion

Can anyone recommend an ios oscope and, or spectrum analyzer? Preferably free, since I'm just playing around with the idea, but willing to buy something, as long as it's being maintained.

Virsyn Bark Filter. As well as all the other stuff, it's an AU spectrum analyser
    Sorry it's not free

    Great! Thanks!

  • Caustic Editor for Volca.
Free, but it looks like it will die with the arrival of ios11.
    Nooooo!

I don't own it myself, but have read of others using it.

    Or for the full Monty...

AFAIK only System (it's a suite with more if one needs) with o-scope and meant for music apps; uses AB instead of microphone. Virsyn has, I believe, only analyzer as other apps available.
MC returns report for you, PDF etc.

MC is not the most convenient ever, but does the job and I hope Sascha will take it further.

  • Virsyn Bark Filter. While I tried most of Virsyn's apps and forgot about them, I've started using Bark Filter a LOT! I can imagine that even if I stop using it for other functions (like its compression and graphic EQing), I'll always use it as a spectral analyser. It's unreal how it's helped me find those stubborn frequencies trying to occupy the same space in a mix.

Thanks! I will check out the Bienert stuff.

Will check out Caustic editor too, since I've looking into getting Volca Sample and am not planning on updating to iOS11. *nice to see I can use it on older devices, since it is supported back to iOS7.

I wrote to him a few weeks ago to ask him if he planned to develop it further but got no reply :(

That's not good news. Strange that all other apps are for measuring with input from microphone. Without a doubt market for solution for musicians to analyze own work on the device. Let's see.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with these:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/oscilloscope/id388636804?mt=8
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spectrum-analyzer-real-time-sound-frequency-analyzer/id490078884?mt=8

Which I discovered, because, it turns out, I have a really nice metronome app from the same developer:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/metronome-ϟ/id416443133?mt=8

I may go with the Virsyn app, as well, at some point, if I can use the MB compression part of it; but, right now I'm just analyzing external signals, so no internal processing necessary.

    Ok, good to have decision.
I have been waiting for ONYX to update their apps. Untouched for some time, hopefully not abandonware. I had the idea you were looking for apps to analyze your sounds in the device and not from outside source. My mistake. :*

  • Tonal Energy by @sonosaurus has a spectrum analyzer and it maintains Audiobus and IAA

  • @Kranick
Ahh, good job. I have Total energy.
I can not look at it now so I'm relying on bad memory. Somehow I got it stuck that you could play mediafile from the music library or via microphone and in AB. Interesting part is from my viewpoint is directly from music app into analyzer app, e.g. like Bark filter. I need to check that, would be good. Another problem is the lack of Oscilloscope to use as internal tool (like MC Oscope). One can always use Mac/PC or 2 devices, but strange.
    Thanks mate.

  • I use those from time to time:

The decision was mostly because I have the Onyx Metronome app, which I really like and it has given me zero problems. Otherwise, I might have passed on these, due to a lack of activity. At this point, though, I don't plan to update to iOS11, so I'm not terribly concerned by the absence of updates. As long as the apps work currently; and, I've had no issues so far on 7.1.2, 9.3.5 and 10.3.3.

  • I might have to get tonal energy, too.

Yes indeed, I will "keep/leave" at least one iPad on 10.3? and even an older one on 7?, to have access to legacy apps. Seems to me good use of old hero devices.
