Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Using backing tracks during live performance.

I am a solo performer, and use pre-recorded backing tracks a lot. I want to select a track and play it, then stop. Right now I'm using bismark music2bus as a player. It works well enough, but I was wondering if there was a better solution. I use audiobus to route my mics to effects and mimix to control the mix. I'm relatively new to using this tech, but love the potential.

Would love to be able to do something with remote triggers so that starting the next song could be a single button-type thing rather than switching back and forth between apps to queue the next track.

  • There are a few really good apps that allow you to create an interface that is set-up with buttons and sliders for just the tasks you need. MidiDesigner is one I've used and I think TouchOSC is in the same family. I'm sure there's other recommendations too.

I use Stagetraxx on my iPad Mini 2 for playing backing tracks. While I don't use it, it supports MIDI control and triggering, the latter also works via bluetooth (and with an Airturn compatible external device).
