Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Description:

SampleTron 2 for iPad combines the powerful sound engine of IK’s award-winning SampleTank with our industry-leading tape modeling technology to recreate the distinctive, ultra-vibey sounds of tape-based samplers from the ‘60s and ‘70s, along with quirky early digital sample players and vocoders.

Take command of the SampleTron 2 app with any compatible MIDI controller and turn your iPad into the brains of a portable Tron module for live performance with the largest collection of Mellotron and other tape-based sounds on iPad!

Features

  • 2.5GB virtual instrument collection of sought-after vintage and tape-based samplers
  • Over 400 tracks sampled from vintage Mellotrons, Chamberlins, Optigans and more
  • Includes over 100 factory presets for instant inspiration
  • Each preset can load 3 tracks to split, layer and solo from over 400 available
  • Features 11 modern non-Tron and vintage digital sample-based instruments
  • Import Sample function creates user Tron sounds with IK’s tape modeling DSP
  • Includes the full content of IK’s original SampleTron updated for legacy users
  • 11 selectable effects with Channel Strip, Tape Echo, Multimod and new Vintage Plate
  • Assignable MIDI continuous controllers for use with external controllers
  • Works as an AUv3 instrument plug-in and as a standalone app

From gothic to gritty
SampleTron 2 for iPad comes with a vast library of over 400 “tracks” that you can load into any preset—up to 3 at once—and then individually process with IK’s cutting-edge tape modeling DSP for ultimate tone-shaping flexibility.

SampleTron 2 for iPad also shines where it processes our non-Tron material. Here you’ll gain access to exciting new sounds with the choir, strings, brass, organ, piano, bass, and even synths and vocoders that all come included.

We’ve also added vintage digital sample-based instruments such as the Mattel Optigan, Vako Orchestron and 360 Systems Digital Keyboard. And to complete the circle, you’ll find the full content of the much-revered original IK SampleTron product.

Authentic sound and vibe

All 11 models are gloriously detailed and designed to give you the immersive experience of using actual vintage gear right on your iPad, even to the point of exposing their inner workings, all while maintaining uniform ease of use and functionality across the board.

Make it your Tron
Your own samples can now be easily loaded and mapped to take full advantage of the tape processing sound using IK’s industry-leading tape modeling technology. A panel of global controls along with six tape controls let you dial in exactly the right mood.

All the tools you need
SampleTron 2’s edit mode lets you dive deep into the preset parameters with controls for volume, pan, fine tune, transpose and high & low note range for each Track. There’s also synthesizer-style controls including a filter with selectable type and an amplitude envelope with velocity control for each track individually or all tracks combined.

Effects like no other

Effects include a Channel Strip equalizer and compressor, Tape Echo, Multimod—with selectable chorus, ensemble, flanger, phaser, Uni-V and Rotary Speaker—and the new Vintage Plate Reverb that’s based on the Plate algorithm developed for AmpliTube 5.

Expansive versatility
SampleTron 2 for iPad works as a standalone app or as an AUv3 instrument plug-in. Use it with your favorite AU host apps such as GarageBand, Cubasis, AUM, Beatmaker, Auria and more. It also supports MIDI learn and standard MIDI keyboard control for nearly all its functions.

  • Looks good, but pricey. I'm curious to see demos of this.

  • Whew…that’s a pricey app!

    Though I bet sounds great!

  • I’m a sucker for Mellotrons. This one looks like the deal. But quite pricey and heavy (2.5GB), certainly not a spontaneous purchase.

  • I do like a ‘Tron. Anyone have this already on desktop and can comment on it? Also part of the IK desktop group buy which I haven’t decided whether I’m taking part in yet.

  • That’s the intro price????

    Apparently 😅

  • i have it on desktop and am not a fan to be honest. Like most of the IK synth stuff i find it thin and digital sounding. i much prefer Arturia's version.

The only redeeming factor is the ability to add your own samples. But honestly just use whatever sampler + chowtape which has much better controls and distortion etc.

    Thanks, useful info.

  • Seems pricey for iOS and non-universal, but I'll wait for @thesoundtestroom 's review/play through before making up my mind whether to buy it or not. Looks cool.

  • I’m just wanting Sampletank AUv3…

I clicked on the link and blurted out "oh damn !" Almost fell off my stool. :D

Yeah that just made up my mind to join in on the IK 25th Anniversary group buy

Total app size of 3.6 GB!!! And nearly $70!!! Then again, I trust you’re getting a pretty dead on replica of a far more rare and expensive piece of hardware, so…

While I still prefer the Arturia and the GForce on desktop, I also use this desktop, and sprung for the iOS. I love mellotrons, and have given up on the Streetlytron AUv3 that’s been promised for ages. The Beathawk’s excellent, though.

  • I trust @thesoundtestroom ’s Doug will be covering this one in depth.

  • There are so many tape machine emulations, then this costs $70 and 4gb of space. I personally would rather IK Multimedia port Modo Bass. I’d gladly pay $70 for it!

Have you tried it as au? And if so does the keyboard support MIDI out?

I’d consider Modo Drums for iPad. There’s certainly nothing else like it available for iOS today. I tried the Modo Drums demo for desktop and it was unusable. Slowed my brand new M1 computer to a crawl (I think because it was probably not optimized for the new M1 chip).

***And by the way, there is now another 25th anniversary download available as of today.

Ah yes, I was trying to remember the other Modo product: Drums!

I feel like modeled instruments are the future, especially for mobile platforms like M1.

Absolutely. Their compact file size and modification flexibility compared to sampled instruments makes them ideal.

Yes to the former (although, irritatingly, the presets have to be navigated from the GUI). Not had the chance to try the latter yet.

unfortunately MODO drums is 8gb in size. its not really modeled. its a "combination of samples and modeling" it does sound decent tho!

  • Definitely some great sounds. At the cost of 2 1/3 SWAMs.

Drums are modeled, cymbals are sampled.

MODO DRUM is our first native M1 product. You might want to make sure you are using the latest version and if you still have issues our support team can help. Runs very smoothly on my M1 MacBook Pro
