Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.
Which apps model feedback?
The only one I know of is GeoShred, and it is my favorite feature of GeoShred. I found an old jam in my archives with some nice GS feedback:
Are there any other apps that have feedback modeling?

I think you can simulate a kind of feedback in ApeMatrix (maybe AUM also) just by sending the output of your FX to the input, modulating the feedback gain with a CC automation (or not). The only thing missing is a delay between the output and the input which is fed back (which correspond to the parameter "Distance" in Geoshred). But I am pretty sure such an "FX" (a simple delay) can be found easily on iOS.
Thanks, great idea. I’ve done feedback in AUM before, but I never thought about how to make it controllable. A Rozeta X-Y pad set up to control gain and delay should emulate the GeoShred X-Y pad.
But the GeoShred feedback model also does well at the harmonic overtones. I don’t fully understand that part.
It’s not feedback modeling, but Daedalus by Amazing Noises does great feedbacky sounds too. It’s one of my favorite parts of Daedalus.
Saturn 2 does feedback well. Endlessly sculptable, and a million things to try out. I rather enjoy the squeaks that you can get out of the power amp model.
RedShrike can get some good feedback-like sounds.
Sounds like you might’ve already done this in AUM, using a filter to control can be good but also a bit painful…
Is there a specific preset? I have that app but have never found anything I liked in it. I should probably give it a better chance.
I have that one too. Is there a specific preset you’re thinking of?
Actually, ya know what? I think I was confusing that with Poison-202 - but they both can do it. I can't check for specific presets right now, but will try later.
I'm not so sure this is what you're really looking for though. It's not really feedback so much as just some nice screechy sounding tones.
Haq made a video on creating feedback in sum not too long ago.
No particular presets… I just crank the feedback and input up and then play with parameters from there… You probably tried using it as a delay you silly boy.
I use feedback a lot in SunVox.
Sometimes a preset ('speak analog delay' is nice for emulating dub style mixing desk feedback). Sometimes build my own.
With a bit of careful filtering to avoid any ear piercing tones you can really push it.
Some examples.
Chill feedback...

Dubby. Feedback used liberally throughout all with Speak's preset. I really enjoyed riding the resonances on the synths in the second half.

Ending with a wild one..

Moebius Lab also has feedback
Thanks, those are inspiring demos.
Someone mocked up a Serge multi band resonant filter in Audulus that is feedback capable.

Great tones, many thanks. I have Audulus 3, but no clue at all how to use it. Is it possible to download a patch that does this?
The resonant filter thing is here:

There is a demo patch, too, where you can explore its effect.
That's really nice to read. Thank you!
I feel there is so much to explore with feedback. My examples (hopefully) show it as part of an fx chain and as a performative element. Recently I have been trying to bake it into synth patches.
Do Nembrini's amp sims have some feedback? I'm not sure.
Well, a shimmer reverb is a form of feedback, but I agree GeoShred does a good job of it.
