Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Who is Drambo for? Who is it not for?

I don't know about you, but over the years I have bought a new of highly-reviewed musician apps of twenty bucks or more, then ignored.

TBH, I'll use it for a bit, climbed the learning curve a bit, and then ignore it, especially if another shiny app object comes across forums like this and my fav YouTubers.

Lately, I bought AUM, Beatmaker3, Cubasis 3, and several Nembrini and THU guitar sims.

AUM so far has been a home run. It is hot, simple, and deep. Easy to get into, accomplish a few things, and learn and use more and more. A natural curve of complexity.

Anyway.......

Since I got back into iOS musician stuff this year, Drambo is perhaps the most talked-about app I haven't bought. I don't want to spend $20 on another app with high-learning curve that I won't necessarily use.

Who's it for? Who is it NOT for?

  • My background.... I've had a few synths, including Minibrute and OP-1. I have a ton of iOS apps. Also have a bunch of drum machine apps. I have never done modular in hardware or software per se.

  • It can be as simple to use as aum for the most part if you want it to be or as infinitely complex if you want. You can use it as a groove box or as a modular or both or whatever else you can dream of. It can definitely be overwhelming at first glance with the amount of stuff in it but I tend to use it as a groove box myself because of how easy it is to set up and then if I need something, I can load the AU for it or make it. I started off making simple synths or effects racks and just learn as I go and it all starts to make more sense. The patchstorage page is a wealth of information as well because you can dissect how everything is made and follow the signal cos a lot of people who contribute make wonderful stuff. At the end of the day though, if it’s just something you need to plug and play and get immediate results, AUM is plenty. Drambo has been the best thing I've found though for an extremely versatile groove box for live use and the midi learn helps me have a set up that’s unique to my needs for live use

It's steadily becoming the app I use the most on iOS.

I do not think it is an app that you'll use based on what I've read in this thread. I believe you'll feel you wasted the $20 on something you won't use.

Anyone can use it in some capacity if they can get over the potential complexity of it and just use it for simple tasks.
You don't "get it" by just loading up some presets. You really need to wrap your head around the idea that at its most basic it's just a sequencer and a bunch of modules that you can use in simple ways or insanely complicated combinations.

    Thanks fingolfinzz!

Synth stuff has undoubtedly been of interest to me. Modular hardware always felt like breathru crack that would necessitate a hideout to avoid tough questions from my spouse.

One thing I'd throw in here is that because Drambo can run as an AUv3 plugin as well as an AUv3 host, you could use Drambo for a lot of things. I think its a worthwhile purchase just if you are looking for a large variety of fx and the ability to create your own fx chains.

  • Cool. FYI, in the hardware world, I've been using an Eventide H9 for effects candy. So it'd be nice to have good mod FX in the AUM iOS world.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Hmmm... I will not do scripts.

Yup, I’ve posted a ton of music made in Drambo.

  • I'm definitely one of those "talk but not post" people, and am actively striving to put out material.

  • I don’t like pure modulars and hate scripts yet I love Drambo.

I’ve recently realised that one part that makes it approachable to me is the auto connecting. You slide in a new module, bam it’s all connected! You move them around, they’re auto connected too, unless they’re not supposed to be in that place.
Because of this you can build a simple yet decent sounding synth simply by placing one module after another and it works straight away:
    Midi2cv->osc-> amp env-> filter env-> filter etc.
Want more oscillators stick a mixer after them and plug them all in. That’s all. Want it polyphonic? Slide number of voices up, voila!

…instead of getting a bunch of blocks and spending hours scratching your head and wondering what goes where.

Don’t get me wrong, you’ll need to learn the signal flow direction and other conventions but if you’re a bit of an adve

    80% Drambo!

  • Here's a minute-long trailer for my Shepard-Risset Glissando Generator, built in Drambo. Delayrium Infinitum is also featured.

I think it does a good job of showing how fast and powerful Drambo can be for sound design. I rarely use more than one track, and I rarely use the sequencer. I've tried to "use Drambo to its fullest potential" but I'm not there yet. @childofthecorndog makes good use of its groovebox features.

Drambo is your personal Elektron kit on the iOS platform. A perfect instrument for hosting samples, auv3 and native synths and effects:

Drambo is for anyone who is curious about exploring and creating new neural pathways and discovering new ways of making music :)

LOL! Well, most of the music I post on my Soundcloud is Gadget experiments, and a couple of NS2's. I absolutely love the hell outta Drambo because of all of the limitless possibilies contained within. I'm just waiting for some sort of automation system that isn't based on p-locks in order to make more complex soundscapes that evolve slowly and naturally. 😅 Then, the sky's the limit.

The problem with Drambo is it takes over your mind.

When there is a problem, any problem, your first thought is "Drambo can fix it!". You see it on this Forum all the time.

Someone on the Forum has a drum app that won't stay in sync - your response: "Drambo is the answer".

Someone has a headache and so you tell them "You need Drambo".

Your child cuts their finger - "Drambo can fit that".

I'm sick of hearing about Drambo.

Drambo, Drambo, Drambo. It's an evil drug masquerading as a universal cure.

This is really encouraging and positive.

    You don't like it????

    That's cool by me.
That suggests that we're doing something very interesting.

You either get it or you don't.

Other than that, how are you doing?
Have you had a nice weekend?

Actually, "Drambo" sounds like a great brand name for a drug. When Tylenol, Ambien, Advil, and Prozac fail you,

    try Drambo.

    Ahem...it is pronounced, "Drambosia"

  • "Drambo, Drambo, Drambo!"
