Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

ShockWave - Synth Module by Kai Aras

https://apps.apple.com/app/id1449844670

Description:

ShockWave is a monophonic Synthesizer designed to bring modular style workflow to the world of iOS & AUv3 plugins.

Built around the concept of Phase Distortion (PD) Synthesis, Shockwave includes a pair of PD Oscillators each capable of creating everything from pure Sine Waves over smooth Sawtooth and Square Waves to Resonance & Sync sweeps, filtered Noise and more.

In addition to the Synth Voice, ShockWave includes a dedicated control section housing a pair of 8 step sequencers, a sample & hold module as well modules for trigger divisions, logic comparisons and controlled randomness.

A pair of Low Frequency Oscillators and 2 Attack/Sustain/Release (ASR) Envelopes serve as main modulation sources and can be used in a number of ways. Envelopes can be triggered from a number of internal sources including other modules such as trigger divider, logic or chance module but can also be connected to each other allowing for a wide range of patches usually only possible in large modular systems. LFOs are individually tempo sync-able and capable of producing total of 5 different waveforms each.

The two sequencers can run independently or combine to one 16 step sequence where rate and length can be controlled independently for each of the two.

In true modular nature almost any control within ShockWave can be modulated with up to 11 sources - simultaneously. Modulations are setup simply by holding a control and dialling in the desired amount in a list of all available sources. A special X-Ray mode adds a realtime display of all currently active modulations right at their corresponding control making it easy to understand what's happening inside the synthesizer at any given time.

Synth Voice and Control Section are accompanied by built-in Delay and Reverb sections placed on send busses with all of their controls including the send levels being available as mod destinations.

Last but not least, ShockWave features a solid MIDI implementation including support for Single Channel MPE, regular and poly Aftertouch, custom CC mappings and more.

MIDI Output is supported as well and includes Note and Control Change output generated from various internal sources including Sequencers, Envelopes and LFOs making it possible to control external MIDI gear or chain multiple plugin instances for advanced, self driving patches.

  • Looks really interesting. Thank you @White

Hmmm, looks nice. Would love to hear presets.

  • Looks like u-he Bazille. Monophonic though....

  • Wow. This sounds FAT. Though Volt is a great synth, I feel it lacked oomph. ShockWave is certainly not lacking in this department. :)

There is a randomizer but I’m not sure if the ‘pre-select’ parameters function is working... anyone getting this? They seem to turn on parameters but should maybe toggle them?

  • How is it on the cpu? Would an older iPad handle it okay?

  • edited December 2019

Thanks @White This one looks very interesting, came as a little surprise to me. A big plus is MPE, and it sounds beautiful.

The UI does not scroll so it is cut off at the bottom in BM3 in NS2

Edit: two fingers does it, duh

Did you try scrolling with two fingers?

Thanks @White for the news. Appreciate how you add the full description from the App Store. Trying to read it there is difficult with the microscopic print, and no zooming regardless of how hard I pinch the screen, lol.

Sounds and looks intriguing. Wasn’t expecting releases so soon after BF. My CPU runneth over! (CPU... cup... get it? tee hee hee!)

Edit: just noticed that i had “dynamic type” in Settings had been set to small print. oops...

Oh! You kids and your tricks! Thanks homie! :). I had Volt brain on.

  • Sounds lovely and I hope the randomize can get a bit of love when it comes to selecting parameters. Maybe I am missing another 'two finger' 'trick'.

  • Watched Mr Haq’s video and bought it straight away. Looks to add something new and different to my synth toolbox. Wish it was polyphonic as well though - is that too much to ask of a possible future update? (Probably yes I know).

  • One of the issues with Volt was preset sharing was difficult, is this any better @ka010 ?

  • Well it passes the init patch test for sure. I can actually make stuff from scratch I really like. I don’t know what I am doing but apparently Shockwave does and it is working out well.

Seems perfect here. Import and export brings up Files browser and settings lets you do iCloud or Local storage. Ahhh...

What's the process? Is it just copying presets into the App's folder using the Files app?

So this looks like an MPE keyboard (ala AniMoog) and so this adds a level of expression on glass and so also this would go nicely for us users with the MicroFreak. So ... I might be buying this.

*note how you can watch me in realtime talking myself into this.

  • @AudioGus thanks for the video!

Volt was a cpu greedy b’stard on my Air2.
Anyone comment on cpu usage here vs volt as a comparison ?

I have an Air 3. Using one instance of Volt in AUM, the DSP meter hovers between 13% - 20% whilst a patch is played. ShockWave is around double that at 26% - 40%

  • I’ll probably grab it when the iPhone version comes out. I don’t really have an iPad that could handle this too well it sounds like

  • edited December 2019

It’s pretty efficient. Here’s running 3 instances that are all sequence presets playing all at once and it’s only hitting 15% cpu in apeMatrix.

  • I purchased this at lunch with my iPad 2 (not air but 2) as it said requires ios 9 or later. I thought, hehe we'll give this a whirl. Press icon and ---- icon loads and just goes away. HA!

I didn't expect it to work and will download on my Pro later.

  • Might have been discussed already but heard from Kai that it will get universal support.

Ew, sounds like that might rule out my Air 2 then
