Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Cme Xkey Air with musical scales

How can I make my cme xkey play the scale that some apps offer in their synthesizer?
If I use the keyboard on the iPad , the selected scale is in effect , but when I play it in my cme xkey it does not assign to that scale.

  • It won't. The apps are not filtering midi from external devices, which is what they do for scales. What app are you trying to do this with? I think the Rozeta suite is probably your best bet.

  • Well , I own kB-1.
I thought that would work out... so if I want to play in scale, I cannot use my keyboard controller?

  • Rosetta Scaler will filter incoming midi from an external keyboard to a specific set scale. It’s included Bram Bos Rosetta Suite.

  • Great !! Is it the only app help me do this?

The Rozeta suite is highly useful for many other reasons, so getting it and using the Rozeta Scaler app is indeed your best value.

If you have Mozaic, the Simple Scaler script can also help. https://patchstorage.com/simple-scaler/. For a more complicated but far more powerful script, there is Scale Compendium by Bryan Appel: https://patchstorage.com/scale-compendium/

KB-1 won’t do what you want.

  • ThumbJam can do this with the Scale Lock feature (and midi thru if you want to pass it to another app). More details available, if you need them...

  • Am I right in saying, then, that I, a non-keyboard player, can use Rosetta to translate stuff I play into the correct scale, with whatever midi keyboard I use? If so, that’ll be really nice.

    Ha. Excellent 🙂

  • I use the Xkey and ThumbJam, and in two weeks have been amazed by the control....I am still messing clumsily with the Xkey app for MIDI settings, but it certainly does the scale lock with the instruments and scales set up in ThumbJam. This opens up myriad ways for me to branch out from my previous limitations, and have a look at, say, Gypsy jazz, Klezmer, all manner of blues, and, basically, "world music." I wish I'd had such before I was old!
