Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Get Good Drums/Superior Drummer samples on ios

These are some of the drum programs I would like to use if I had a pc. I don’t. Is it possible to somehow take the samples and use them in an iOS midi drum writing app?

  • I thought about going that route (EZ Drummer) and decided to go with flexibility over ease. I’m glad I did. I got several high quality multisample drum kits through Drum Drops:

    https://www.drumdrops.com/drum-samples

I got several midi packs from Groove Monkee:

    https://groovemonkee.com/collections/midi-loops

And then I got everything from the Samples From Mars site:

    https://samplesfrommars.com

I bought everything on sale on Black Friday for a fraction of the listed cost.

DrumDrops and GrooveMonkee stuff 50% off or less, and the Samples From Mars stuff for $39.

I think, in the end, I paid about as much as if I would have have bought EZ Drummer at regular price, but I got SO MUCH MORE and with cross platform compatibility. AudioLayer covers the EXS format, and SFZ and MIDI are supported by several apps. In the end, it’s like having EZ Drummer with all the add-ons on my iPhone!! 🙂

BTW, I also use Shreddage X and Shreddage Picked Bass by Impact Soundworks, Secret Agent Guitar by Karoryfor, and several Guitar sets from Lyrical Distortion.

With AudioLayer, we have the ability to use made for desktop sound sets these days!!!

P.S. I cheat a little too, because I have ChickenSYS Translator Pro 6, so I can convert most everything that isn’t encrypted.

Either way, that’s how I do it. I hope it gives you some ideas! 😎👍🏼

  • I just did a few velocity layer samples in BFD3 and use them in VirsynAudiolayer. Of course it doesnt sound quite as good as the hundreds of layers in BFD, but works well enough for me for live. Then, I can take the midi, since I set it all up to the same notes, export the midi back to the desktop and plug back into BFD for final products.

Not sure what exs format or sfz are. You get nice samples like ez drummer? I always wanted to use their progressive kit stuff. The progressive foundry looks great

EXS and SFZ are sampler preset formats—like patch formats used by various synths when you download them off the web to your synth.

Yes, I get nice samples like EZ Drummer in multiple velocities and with round robins. 🙂👍🏼

  • oh ok. So in that case what app do you think makes for easy midi programming. I’m not a drummer or making loops or anything like that. I’m just trying to make some midi drum tracks for when I play guitar

Have you looked at any of the Lumbeat apps: Rock Drummer, Funk Drummer, Soft Drummer etc? IF you just want grooves to play along to these are hard to beat.

  • I guess I’m thinking in terms of a sampler and then writing midi that will render those samples when recording a song. Like in a daw building a track.

The LUMbeats apps mentioned above are excellent and provide the ability to use patterns from their library or ones you create, and will change them up in a natural sounding way according to the Jam intensity setting.

GarageBand has some excellent drum AIs and sounds and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Drum Perfect Pro which is currently on sale also has high quality samples and a pattern library and is a feature-rich drum sequencer. It has a learning curve, but if someone wants to program their own drum tracks, it is probably the app that beat.

  • Ok that sounds cool I’ll check them out. I recently started working with audio evolution mobile. It’s the most functional daw I’ve found that’s available on iPhone. Garage band is ok but can’t donthe time signatures im looking for.

In audio evolution I loaded a drum track to trigger my own samples with midi. Worked out ok. Can change velocity but that’s it. I used one of the preloaded sound libraries but I’d like to learn about samples I could load into there

Also curious if you can add extra controls like if there’s a sample set I want to use with a different toms or China cymbal or something

The sampler in auria will do it and there are drum Kits to download for it. You can import midi clips or make your own to trigger those kits.

  • I’m on iPhone so no auria

I'd invest the time of migrating your favorite desktop samples into the sampler AudioLayer (which can read the EXS format btw, which is logics EXS24 sampler format.) NanoStudio 2 will be iPhone usable soon also, so maybe at some point you could use that app to achieve your goal. Using AudioLayer you'll be able to mimic the desktop idea of using a VST in any iPad host (GarageBand, Audio Evolution, etc) with your samples.

Here's a video example from Maschine into AudioLayer

  • That’s just for samples right? You can’t actually use desktop vst right?

@Audiojunkie ! Did you manage to get your drumdrops kits working inside audiolayer ? If so, did you used exs files provided by drumdrops or did you map the samples by yourself ?
I purchased a multi sample kit from them yesterday and i was not successful to import the kit inside audiolayer using exs file. It seems it recognizes all mapping but cannot find the samples. I am wondering if my problem comes from the fact that I kept each articulations inside their own folder. Short explanation would be appreciated.

  • Mode Audio Fragment and Bulb are 1 amazing drum packs for a fair price. These kits are analog and traditional drums processed and effected in stunningly sophisticated ways that really stretch the sonic palette for a definite progressive type sound.

Actually it is buy 2 get 1 free on Mode audio.
