Got a box of tricks lined up, found some sweet kontakt libraries and useful audio apps, I'll start with kontakt.

Makers of one of the finest kontakt percussion libraries, in session audio, has released a free percussion library for a limited time until 21st november, called fruit shake, it works in the free kontakt player too, have to register it in native access.

    https://insessionaudio.com/products/fruit-shake/

Another good free kontakt library, with a strange name, made from babies toys, don't let that put you off tho, some nice content is to be had, along the lines of hybrid cinematic stuff, booms, whooshes, downers, transitions etc. It's free for a limited time, might not be by the time you read this, but worth a mention just incase, use voucher code PSGZ100 at the check out.

    https://pulsesetter-sounds.com/product/epic-babies/?

Now onto some analog sounding goodness courtesy of synthmagic, all free kontakt stuff again. Worth listening to all the freebies on that page see what you like, I'm personally partial to xmas freebie 2 and the mini magic 003 synth in the bundle, nice, and extravoice which is a very lush sounding organ.

    https://www.synthmagic.co.uk/free.html

Also this one from synthmagic too is great for spacious pads a gem imo. Click on the play on soundcloud tab and the mediafire link will be on the page, still working I just checked, didn't want to just post the link, as if I was you, I wouldn't trust a random fat man posting links to mediafire.

Found a kontakt library that's great for drone and background sounds, especially good for under layers, goes by the name of landscape, is excellenté and features a randomisation button, can get a little samely tho, but great never the less.

    https://cinematique-instruments.com/inst_landscape.php

Moving on to a nice free kontakt piano library called death piano le, cut down version with fewer samples but great for setting a vibe from ominous thru to emotional, lo-fi, reverse samples etc, is free/donation ware.

    https://www.productionvoices.com/death-piano-le/

Onto other soundware this time a tasty double bass library for plogue sforzando called meatbass, for when you need to release your inner jazz cat.

    https://www.karoryfer.com/karoryfer-samples/wydawnictwa/meatbass

Something else that was grooovy with a little g, this time for halion sonic se3, free version of halion, is a granular mangle thing, can drop your own samples in it too. Also worth checking out the poly demo too, only has 40 preset but loads of tweaking potential. Need to grab halion from steinberg first tho.

    https://www.samplefuel.com/drop

Found a nice little audio app for the old timers who hanker for nostalgia and young-uns who don't realise what a complete pita it was using old stuff like the akai s950, that screen was a mare for sampling, preferred the s1000, fighting the noise floor too, but I digress. I stumbled across this little utility that mimics the timestretch/pitch shifting of the old akai sampler line from s950-s3000. Works on wav and aiff and has two algo's modern and classic, sounds quite good from what I remember using the hardware, been over 20 years tho. For mac, win and linux.

    https://the-akaizer-project.blogspot.com

It's already been mentioned in this thread but worth mentioning again, spitfire audios labs plugin, vst/au etc, win and mac. Few sound libraries available now, most of which are worth getting imo.

    https://www.spitfireaudio.com/labs/

Interesting spatialiser plugin called anaglyph a binaural effect for positioning sound, these sort of things tend to sound best on headphones, it's part of an ongoing research project. Only in vst format mac and windows for now, hopefully au soon, but it does promise linux support in the future too.

These are all the things that have stuck out for me in the last few months or so, so I thought I'd share just incase you've missed a few. Makes perfect fodder for ipad production, once the audio has been imported.

  • Wow brilliant stuff there Mister, thanks for sharing. I’ll have a look through these later.

I don't think these were mentioned, but they are awesome:
    http://klanghelm.com/contents/main.php

Scroll to the bottom to see the freebies.

There's also the free fxpansion plugins, I think you have to create an account but the freecomp is good, it's the basis for the compressors they made available in auria as IAP's. I have geist lite and singlemault se in my downloads as well. singlemault is a distortion. I think they're all free to get with an account, I don't remember them being a time limited offer.

And, if it wasn't mentioned, there's the computer music collection, which you can get with a single issue purchase on the magazine stand. I use a lot of their plugins, but especially the convolution reverb, which is excellent.

I hope that was a help.

    Freaking killer!

Love it worth the mag price for sure!

    Use it constantly

I second ribs, quite amazing for free, if you haven't got that drop plugin RUST( i )K, well worth grabbing if you're looking for granular stuff, just need to download the free halion plugin first, video shows what it can do.

    https://www.steinberg.net/en/landing_pages/halion_sonic_se_3/halion_sonic_se_free.html

    https://www.samplefuel.com/drop

An excellent granular synth that's sample based is the mangle, not free £20/$27 or so, reminds me of an ios app, worth watching the vids.

    http://sound-guru.com/software/mangle/

This might be worth a look too, free granular synth/sampler and effects au and vst

    http://www.partikkelaudio.com/downloads/hadron-particle-synthesizer

Another free granular fx which works on mac, win and linux, altho I don't think it runs on versions of osx 10.11 or later is.

    http://mourednik.github.io/argotlunar/

Last two old granular based audio apps for experimenting, both work on sierra as that's what I'm on, I've not tested with later versions.

    https://xenakios.wordpress.com/downloads/

Check out paulstretch also from that site if you haven't got it already.

This last one works in mono, but you can edit individual grains, set out like an art/painting app like ms paint, not used it much as I've only just found out about it.

Watched a few vids and The Mangle is actually a really lovely thing, just downloading the demo. Amazing what can be produced from just one sample:

Update: just tried the demo, and it's crashing constantly on my PC. Maybe I'll try a reboot or see if it's better on the Mac.

I downloaded anaglyph for my MAC becaused it seemed pretty cool. I then found out it was only a VST. Then I realized that Logic doesn’t seem to support VST’s. Is that true? Any workarounds?

The Mangle is really good, but has fleeting support, the developer is almost impossible to contact, but fairly recently emailed to say he was still working on it. He also created Tangle, a modular FM synth system, another great idea, but sadly even less stable than Mangle.

Such a shame, Mangle could be a wonderful thing. I’ll try it on the Mac tomorrow, and see if it works any better.

Yeah logic only supports au unfortunately, there are a few ways round it though, if you have maschine you can just use it as an fx host, route the audio through it and load vst's. Image line have got a beta plugin called minihost modular, it acts as a plugin wrapper, so you can load plugins into daws that don't support the format, also acts like a modular synth too, for experimenting with different fx and instrument chains. Hasn't been updated for a while, still in beta, might be flakey on your system, worth a try as it's free.

    Here's the reference guide

    https://www.image-line.com/support/flstudio_online_manual/html/plugins/Minihost Modular.htm

    Download links

    https://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.php?f=1919&t=123031

Finally there are paid options for vst to au wrappers, one I've got on my list, with black friday being around the corner is ddmf metaplugin. Similar to minihost modular but with more features and aax support if you ever move to protools. There are a few options out there when it comes to plugin wrappers, metaplugin tho is priced nice and has things like multiband splitters, 4x oversampling for the whole chain etc, £34 at the mo, but hopefully be on sale at the end of the month.

I had a similar thing happen few years back, uvi gave away there mellotron soundware instrument, went to the site, saw the size and thought nah, recently got falcon now I want the mellotron, I should of just left it in my account for later. I feel like I've turned into a kontakt library pusher, have to learn to contain my excitement with good freebies, altho and this is the pusher speaking now, see what you think about synthmagic stuff, they have a few very tasty analog synths for sale, some really rare synths too. These cats do some nice rare analog kontakt synths as well, although some are hit and miss, https://hideawaystudio.wordpress.com/category/product-releases/

Not sure what's going on with the mangle dev wise, get the feeling it will just disappear one day, like loads of dev's before with great ideas but no business skills, I'm exactly the same with music, make tracks all day long, but the rest gives me the fear.

Not bad prices those synths, I’m more into weird, granular, soundscape droney stuff these days though. That’s the shame about the Mangle thing, amazing drone made from a single sample in that video I posted.

Think I might have a look again at that Baby thing tomorrow - I know what you mean, I’ve passed on iOS free stuff before, only to regret it later.

I bought a plugin this year, got it secondhand from kvr users market that is pretty mind blowing for turning nearly anything you throw at it into beautiful ambient pads and drones, sounds like it's singing at times, gives a great sense of depth, I've used it maybe a bit too much tho. Creme de la creme, with a creme de la how much price to match and yes I've overhyped it no end so prepare to be disappointed.

They have another one that's similar, was going to get it last black friday but went with fission by eventide instead, been gutted ever since, to make matters worse, month later eventide bought out a new version of their everything bundle, cost $1 to upgrade from the old one and a couple of plugins, if I would of gone with wormhole, I could of got fission and two other plugins in the new bundle for a fecking $1, win some get kicked in the balls with others.

They have a free plugin with no controls and only four presets, based on the engines from the above plugins, need to sign up for the news letter and have an ilok account, but don't need the dongle, I've got it but don't use as adaptiverb steals my attention, gives a taste tho of what it does to the sound you put in.

    https://www.zynaptiq.com/subspace/subspace-downloads/

One of the nicest granular engines of used of late is the new unfiltered audio plugin byome, bit pricey, but the sound of it is quite musical, p.a have a lot of sales tho. But I agree with knewspeak about glitchmachines they are totally crazy plugs.

Thanks, yeah I bought Cataract a couple of weeks ago. Interesting...yet to do anything serious with it, but fun to play with.

The Neutron thing is definitely worth a punt, maybe I’ll get the Subvert and pick that up along the way.

Wow brilliant stuff there Mister, thanks for sharing. I’ll have a look through these later.

Not free, but Tim Exile has 30% off SLOO, which looks like a good thing to have:

    https://shop.timexile.com/products/sloo

I should post videos up of some of the stuff as my descriptions don't do them justice, first two I posted were time limited offers, so if you like em, plonk em in your basket, tasters to follow.

Thanks Mister, will check those out later. I had a look at 'Epic Babies' - the code worked, thank you, but didn't purchase in the end as it was a bit of a hefty beast (over 3 gb I think), but might revisit.

"An excellent granular synth that's sample based is the mangle, not free £20/$27 or so, reminds me of an ios app, worth watching the vids."

I've looked at this before, it does seem good. Will check out the vids for this too, and maybe put it on the xmas/Black Friday list.

You’ve given me a lot to go on there Mister, thank you. I’m going to enjoy looking through those now with a glass of Tesco red...

Got a box of tricks lined up, found some sweet kontakt libraries and useful audio apps, I'll start with kontakt.

Interesting spatialiser plugin called anaglyph a binaural effect for positioning sound, these sort of things tend to sound best on headphones, it's part of an ongoing research project. Only in vst format mac and windows for now, hopefully au soon, but it does promise linux support in the future too.

    http://anaglyph.dalembert.upmc.fr

These are all the things that have stuck out for me in the last few months or so, so I thought I'd share just incase you've missed a few. Makes perfect fodder for ipad production, once the audio has been imported.

I downloaded anaglyph for my MAC becaused it seemed pretty cool. I then found out it was only a VST. Then I realized that Logic doesn’t seem to support VST’s. Is that true? Any workarounds?

Yeah logic only supports au unfortunately, there are a few ways round it though, if you have maschine you can just use it as an fx host, route the audio through it and load vst's. Image line have got a beta plugin called minihost modular, it acts as a plugin wrapper, so you can load plugins into daws that don't support the format, also acts like a modular synth too, for experimenting with different fx and instrument chains. Hasn't been updated for a while, still in beta, might be flakey on your system, worth a try as it's free.

    Here's the reference guide

    Download links

    https://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.php?f=1919&t=123031

Finally there are paid options for vst to au wrappers, one I've got on my list, with black friday being around the corner is ddmf metaplugin. Similar to minihost modular but with more features and aax support if you ever move to protools. There are a few options out there when it comes to plugin wrappers, metaplugin tho is priced nice and has things like multiband splitters, 4x oversampling for the whole chain etc, £34 at the mo, but hopefully be on sale at the end of the month.

    Linkage

    https://ddmf.eu/metaplugin-chainer-vst-au-rtas-aax-wrapper/

Thanks for all the great info!

  • Enjoy your evening monzo, time for me to get off my butt and cook, go second hand with those plugs if you like them, saw the design bundle for around £100 t'other day on kvr.

Paid about £80 for mine, new license to boot, best places to look for secondhand stuff is kvr and gearslutz, maybe ebay, sold and bought a few things off there and not had any problems yet, touch wood. Has inspired me no end, been working on an ambient album with a space theme, used it all over it, one other plug to try if you haven't already as you have komplete, is absynth fx, has a great granular section, but is a bit obscure with the labelling of the controls.

Yeah I’ve tried those - difficult to know what’s going on, particularly when I’m controlling them via the Mk3. Have you got Molekular? That’s pretty full on.

I’ll have to checkout the 2nd hand options, thanks for the tip.

Be interested to hear what you’re doing. My current project was supposed to be an ambient thing too, but after buying Riffer and Ruismaker Noir I fear it’s all getting noisy again.

Ribs is an amazing thing https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2017/06/29/granular-vst-effect-ribs/

It's took me about 3 or 4 years to get my head around absynth fx and that was just the aetherizer section, wasn't really into it at first but lately been getting some really nice stuff out of it. Only problem I have with molekular is the cpu hit, don't use it that much, but that's got some really nice harmonic fx as well, when I do use it though I usually bounce the audio straight away.

That last bit made me laugh, I sit down to do some hardcore dnb and end up with laid back jazz, amount of times that my track comes out sounding like my original intentions is around 5%. This year tho doing ambient stuff has really helped my focus, like nearly everyone else, been stressed like a mofo, decided to take a break from what I usually do and just experiment, been working mainly at 61 bpm, which has been eye opening and using all sorts of different tuning's, sometimes in the same track.

I'm happier with my new stuff so I'll put up a link once it's finally done, done about 30 tracks, most not finished, really happy with around 6-7 that are pretty much complete, only problem is there is too much pad and strings stuff, so it sounds a little samely. Going to run some tracks through my ipad, metasynth and falcon just to break up the monotony.

No problem, just hope you find some of it useful, there are some really nice free ableton fx racks floating about, I've only got the lite version tho, so I'm not up to speed, look forward to the day I can afford live with max dsp, experimenters paradise.

I find the iPad is really good for a lot of ambient/soundscapey stuff, for example this one I put up yesterday is about 90% Spacecraft:
