Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Create clips for vidibox. Apps?

Hi guys,
I couldn't prevent myself from getting trapped by vidibox as my first approach to video. Now I want to create clips to import. That means I am looking for an app to edit my own videos or/and create visuals. What apps do you suggest? Any libraries or database? Well I prefer to create
Thanks for help

  • What kind of clips do you want to shoot? People with effects? Mash ups? Abstract?
Search for VJ loops... there are plenty of free clips to download for you. I've about 5 gigs of free clips from various sites from searching "VJ loops".

  • Hey thanks. Sounds interesting, I'd like to have a look at them. As there is no certain style I'm looking for this is a good inspiration!

I started recording little clips with the iPad, mash them up ind vidibox and get a music video to my tracks. It looks like my holiday gallery moving. Good fun but... So these clips need filter, cut, reverse or whatever is handy. And for sure abstract ;) fractal self organizing stuff is cool or animation. Whatever. I tend to focus on apps for the fun of playing and creating. Intuitive handling and smooth UI is what I need. No midi yet...

  • IMovie is plenty good enough for editing. But it can be the black hole of time sinks (he says putting his green visor back on and shuffling off into the laundry cupboard...)

  • Beat Time is good for getting stuff straight from U tube if you want edit existing stuff. It has a cache option and also a export to camera roll option and open in for use.

I hadn't paid attention to that app before now. Man that looks like sinkhole of fun. Just record your self making sounds with your mouth or instruments and see what happens. I used to have a lot of fun selfie/beatboxing with http://www.movbeats.com/

  • Hmm. That'd be a fun 'get to know me' project on the forum.

  • Thanks guys. Movbeats is good fun!

  • @syrupcore I mean still good fun and time burner. Love it. Thx

Are there further suggestions on animation or visual pattern creation apps?

  • @Peanutcram for capturing with effects, I use Cinamatic, VideoFX Live, 8mm, Reflex, Fisheye Pro or Kitcam (no longer for sale). Videon is my goto camera for clean shooting and processing in-app, because it has great color and vintage effects, supports 1080p, and shoots up to 120fps. I use Pics2Mov for sequencing photos into video clips, or sometimes iMovie. For text, Vont is unstoppable. VideoGrade is a must-have, even for just quickly determining resolutions of the videos in your camera roll. iSupr8 is great for post-processing, albeit an IAP minefield and unstable on anything less than a 4s or iPad 4.

I generally import the video clips, delete the audio, and then import the audio I want for each clip. At least that's worked best for me.

Here's my latest Vidibox jam, which the dev is actually using at a conference. Also check out some of my other videos, as I generally list the apps used on the descriptions. Hope this was helpful :)

  • Also, if you're looking for pre-made clips, beeple has a ton of great free vj loops: http://www.beeple-crap.com/vjclips.php

Animation Creator HD is a fun, cheap drawing app. You can import photos from your camera roll to use as backgrounds, and theres a good amount of options in terms of tools and layering.

  • @CSwinn thanks :)

Also, Procreate has a great speedpainting video export feature at up to 1080p, and Halftone 2 just got video export capability at 720p :)

  • @apptronica and @CSwinn thanks for sharing. Thank god it's weekend... Do you use midi to trigger the clips in vidibox or jam it?

@apptronica using Giger art in Vosis or ANS is legendary!

  • Thanks @apptronica, appreciate the insight.

  • @Peanutcram thanks :) and my pleasure. I haven't tried the midi yet, but I think it would be fun with a physics based app like Caelestis to trigger clips randomly, but using the quantize to keep it listenable. Of course, if they were seamless ambient loops, it wouldn't matter :)

    @JohnnyGoodyear any time. :)

  • @apptronica randomly would be nice. Imagine the clips get triggerde by frequencies or tracks of your DAW or sync with loopy's tracks. Maybe a separate midi track works.

Jumping into the world of video creation apps I found these:

I use Glitch Wizard for a lot of my vidibox stuff, it does video export. Generate, too, for video distortion effects.

  • Here is a link to a video animation I did using various iOS apps. I give more detailed notes on how it is produced on the web page. Hopefully, this link works?

  • @Redo1
    THANK YOU ALSO.

Great find. I have not tried it yet; but looks interesting.

In addition to shooting your own material, there are also thousands of video clips of free (and legal) stock video available online. Do you want a shot of clouds moving in fast motion across a cityscape? Or a watermelon exploding in slow motion? :) There's a pretty good set of links here: http://bit.ly/1SQjBQi That page will also direct you to sites with searchable free photos (great for your Soundcloud account), free sound effects, and other cool stuff. You can also get 7 days of free video downloads from the paid service Videoblocks. https://www.videoblocks.com/freeclips/

If you like old stuff, there is a tremendous amount of stuff in the Internet Archive http://bit.ly/1Qzbx2O

The only issue is that some of these clips are very high in quality, even HD, which may be more than you want to use on your iOS device. There are many free computer utilities like Mpeg Streamclip which will let you trim and compress the files before uploading them to your device.

  • maybe good place to ask, what is that video effect called where everything is slowed down like a persons movements but there speech/mouth are still regular speed?

  • Yeah I was exited about vidibox but it always crashes and the clips are not in midi synch proper somehow. So, is this the workaround to that?
I made a brady bunch vid with midi synch and it was awful and not in time and mad problems. I gave up as i wasted like hours of life... did this get updated?

    cheers

  • ok for some reason the copy url at particular time is not working, so the scene I'm talking about starts at 2:30 in the video clip, I want to know how to get this video effect of everything being slowed motion but the lip-sync staying in time?

Does anyone know what happened to this app? It’s a lot of fun if you are into this kinda thing, but why did they (he) dropped all the support? I was playing with it the other day and when I tried to preview my clips in camera roll, the thumbs were all black, so I wanted to ask whether there is catch around it. But the website is gone, domain is gone...why? Great VJ app. Should make money imho
