Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Spotify invests in military AI

So first we had Jeff and Elon muscling into space blowing cash they saved on taxes in a suborbital manner. Now Daniel Ek is using whatever he skimmed off artists while paying their pennies to invest in killer AI tech.

How do you feel about it?

  • I already disliked them enough for how little they paid artists and never used the service so this helps justify my boycott even more of that shit company

  • I don't like Spotify- but I am always enthusiastic about helping our future AI lords as much as we can! we should all be thankful that they will soon take care of us!

  • Please change this to off topic. Thanks.

I think one would have to be incredibly naive if they don’t imagine for one second that China, Russia and any sufficiently advanced nation hasn’t already moved in this direction.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning systems are fast becoming crucial advantages for nations and businesses.

And if the calculations of Ray Kurzweil stand, then computers will in a few decades have more computing power than all human brains combined. We’ll be seeing the rise of machine superintelligence. And people will start to merge with this superintelligence in the form of add-ons and grafts for our brains and spines.

This stuff is really happening. It’s not science fiction anymore.

We’re not bloody talking about machine learning for good but for killing…or did you entirely miss that bit?

Also if China and whoever else are doing this then the West shouldn’t be left behind right? Doh

Why are you guys so eager to burry this as irrelevant?

It should be more relevant than the bunch of apps you’re thirsting for.

Although admittedly the ‘law’ says it’s in the wrong section!

Actually Spotify is an app. There’s my loophole!

  • edited January 2022

Haha, you found a loophole. I didn’t realize “off topic” meant irrelevant… as in it doesn’t matter. Off topic threads can stay around for days… if they’re relevant. 😏😘

Yeah, ignore them - just like we did with Germany in the 1930s... that turned out well.

I’d surely not cheer them on to make better ones but try to control the development.

Just like with nukes. Of course everyone had to get armed to the teeth to feed the military industrial complex with tax money, before curbing it.

BTW Russia has NATO at their eastern border, what are they supposed to do? Do you remember the Cuban missile crisis? How US was freaking out?

I’m not saying that China and Russia are saints but I have no doubt they’d follow US’ lead to de-escalate rather than have another arms race.

I know this ain’t gonna happen but I’d rather be naive than complicit.

Don't use Spotify. Never will. Primarily because it is not artist-empowering, but neither was the industry before streaming, nor was Napster ... although Napster was at least audience empowering. Had a producer friend tell me that Spotify does empower some artists who are making more than they used to off of back catalog, but I'm not convinced that's generally true. I was even a SPOT shareholder for about a month after my broker gifted me 1 share. :)

Friend of mine told me that Spotify had become part of the military industrial complex. Sounds like the typical shovel a lot of money into our pockets by promising the moon shenanigans that go along with such businesses. Lot of bull excrement if you ask me:

Independent cyber security expert and content delivery advisor Maurizio Monti told RA what this means. "They're saying they will consolidate a huge amount of information, process it a billion times faster, then apply it to information captured by tanks, drones and satellites to reach battlefield conclusions in seconds instead of weeks," he said.

Also if you ask me, this is not at all off-topic, but I get why some people might feel that way.

  • @kidslow yes, there is more than one reason not to engage with Spotify.

I agree that these are complex issues and there’s a lot of misinformation out there, which obviously is used to obfuscate all the shady stuff going on. Fortunately many have enough sense to question things and put them in the open and aren’t afraid to challenge such behaviours.

I’m not social media warrior at all, just thought it was worth sharing this on a forum frequented by artists and the post seemed legit enough to repost.

It is worth sharing and discussing and thank you for doing so. Some folks want to make music and not be bothered by the rest of it, but ignoring what is happening around you is also a political decision. Better to be informed.

And you are right about misinformation, really it is disinformation. That is one of the functions of how capitalism works, and when you venture into the MIC world, it is almost part of the fabric, certainly even expected among the intelligence community.

  • Check out Audius as an alternative. Has a crypto model that is by artist for artist and fans, both are empowered (artist and fans).

  • Is it wrong that I'm actually more bothered by Spotify's association with Joe Rogan?

    :D

Why? Spotify gave him a giant payday because he brought millions of listeners to their service. I’m sure they like making money… who doesn’t?

I think they’re implying that they don’t like Joe Rogan

  • I think, AI is a step in the road to the evolution of silicon based lifeforms. A large jump in the road are Intelligence and Reproduction. The tipping point occurs when mankind serve AI, instead of the other way around. Then will carbon based lifeforms vanish gradually.
We already see the evolution. If modern communication fails, we are thrown back to the middle ages.
When you look around, people are already using AI, without knowing it, or thinking about it. (Google, Facebook, stock-trade etc.)

  • Because I believe the last thing America needs right now is for the biggest voice in alternative media to be amplifying yee-ha red-blooded, pro-gun, anti-vax libertarian narratives. Even if he proclaims that is not what he is doing.

But I realise I am also in the minority of people who thinks Rogan poses a very subtle, but nonetheless insidious threat to democracy ...and successful global pandemic response.

(...and this is not the place to start that debate)

  • military-industrial complex is not about fighting for democracy against china and russia, it's about fighting for resources and control over those resources. and I hope that artists and their listeners don't want to sponsor any tools for such fights. the logic that 'our enemies' are doing it already is exactly the kind of populism that keeps this world screwed.

I disagree with most of what you wrote, but it doesn’t matter. Political opinions are seldom changed by arguing, especially online.

I will say that I find the conflation of libertarianism with that litany of generic anti-Texan slurs strange. Texas is a state full of people with widely varying opinions and as shocking as it may seem, people who are anti-vaccination mandates include Democrats.

And not that it’s anyone’s business, I got vaccinated.

  • @NeuM
Just to be clear I wasn't making a left/right (democrat/republican) political point, and didn't mean to single out Texans specifically. I suspect the new battlegrounds are no longer between blue/red.

I should have been more precise with my litany of slurs - please blame it on the fact I'm just an ignorant brit :)
