Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

ERS_DimD by Christian Siedschlag

https://apps.apple.com/app/id1584371989

Description:

The ERS DimD chorus audio plugin was originally designed and sold by Harrie Munnik and his Dutch company EmptyRoomSystems. DDMF is proud to carry on the legacy by distributing and further developing the set of ERS plugins. This plug-in has been developed to sound like the Roland Dimension D Chorus with enhanced controls (a hardware chorus that has been used on thousands of recordings worldwide). It has its own signature sound: it is famous for delivering a subtle, stereoizing enhancing, airy effect while adding more presence to a sound. Most chorus products give a lot of modulation and do not keep the original structure of the sound intact. This chorus is way more subtle and adds something rather than take away the original quality of the sound.

  • Holy crap, missed this AND his echorec and his new reverb

  • Gotta say, I got this knowing full well how subtle (re: weak imo) the Dimension D chorus is. It does what it says faithfully and is what it’s supposed to be. Just provides a slight stereoizing and not much else.

  • This was such a staple of mine for years alongside their clone of the EMT 250 reverb. Great to see that DDMF have picked up the mantle of these great emulations and transferred them to iOS as part of the deal. I’ve always loved Roland’s Dimension D Chorus and the ERS DimD is a good facsimile of the subtlety of this classic hardware. As great as FAC Chorus is, DimD is a different flavour that can be both kinder to the source timbre yet still provide the lift you’re looking for. Much like FAC Chorus, it takes into account whether the source signal is already in steoro, or whether it’s mono, eg from an analog synth or guitar.

Ace effect plugin and great to have it on iOS.

This is what makes it so special imo... my experience with it is based on UAD emu, but I barely ever used it on individual tracks, and almost always in mixing / mastering stage... a ‘secret sauce’ that gives depth and glues things together.

    That's the point!
If you want deep warble that can go muddy as well then you're better off with a conventional chorus 😉

  • Just curious: Would anyone pay for a Dimension D Drambo effect rack?

  • If fanboys count too... I would!

Great on a lead vocal for just that reason.

  • I get that’s the point, I said that in the first place! Thought maybe it’d be helpful for those who weren’t sure if they wanted it or thought they were getting an in your face boat ride from hell.

  • @oat_phipps I think it’s just a miss-reading of your ‘Just provides a slight stereoizing and not much else’ comment. It’s plain from your previous comment that you rate what ERS DimD does.

  • New DDMF FX apps based on classic studio hardware? Where's my wallet? When did this ERS series of apps start dropping?

Today - I think the 3 released are all the ERS plug-ins.

DDMF acquired it earlier this year I think and they released the desktop versions back in February and the iOS versions just dropped

  • I wonder if there will be a bundle... most bundles subtractor the cost of items already purchased.
I think I'll start with the delay app in this ERS series of 3 and maybe one more before a bundle gets
offered. I don't begrudge Christian Siedschlag the revenue for these handcrafted simulations of classic hardware devices. I often wonder what he might create if he just starts combining DSP code segments and adding parameterized controls. But he seems intent on simulating things we can't afford to collect.

  • Christian programmed the originals for ERS back in the early days of DDMF. Christians earliest DDMF creations were an answer to the whole ‘all digital eq’s are the same’ debate that was in full rage and these EQ’s weren’t fashioned on classic hardware. IIEQPro and LP10 were and are both purely digital eq designs one of which features linear/minimum phase at a far lower price point then what was offered in the marketplace at the time.

I find it ironic that Christian doesn’t even offer IIEQPRO and LP10 on iOS and is now thought of as a developer that specialises in vintage designs. :)

  • I found a video that Harrie Munnik, the original vendor of the ERS plugins put out to promote DimD. It’s a really good overview of what the plugin does. Be sure to watch the whole 11 minutes as some examples are better than others, but when Harrie uses DimD on the right source material DimD shows it’s worth in spades.

Bought this today, this is a great app ! I always used FAC Chorus until now with great pleasure, but this one has something special, a grain that I particularly like.

I usually delete an app when I find one I like better, sometimes it takes a few days or weeks, today I deleted FAC Chorus lol. Ofc, I don’t pretend that FAC Chorus is less good or that DDMF Dim_D is better, both are very interesting and good sounding, but very different !

Serious stuff here, deleting FAC Chorus. I’m usually unsure about what plugin I prefer for what, but FAC Chorus is an exceptional exception. It’s just superior. If you prefer this one it must be juicy…

  • It's a very different effect to FAC Chorus. FAC Chorus, at its heart, is a BBD style chorus effect, hence why it does a Juno style chorus so well.

The ERS_DimD is based on the Roland Dimension-D which came out in 1979. To quote from a store that specialises in selling vintage equipment.

The Dimension-D produces a chorus that is much more spatial and lacks typical pitch modulation problems. It achieves this through the use of dual sync’d delay lines that are driven by a trapezoidal LFO which is the key to avoiding warble. It has a true psychoacoustic quality...

Of the recent DDMF releases, I'd actually put this as the pick of the bunch. The EMT Plate reverb is also great, but the ERS_DimD is a very unique 'chorus' effect.

  • This may be a whole different thread but…
I’ve struggled with fac when checking a mix in mono (losing clarity/volume etc). I’ve no doubt this is entirely down to my very poor mixing skills. I know the ddmf is a different kind of effect but would the way it’s made make it any easier for an amateur to overcome the mono problem when using chorus?

  • Both FAC Chorus and Roland Dimension D are fundamentally stereo FX. Guitar pedal choruses are generally better as a mono effect, but I don't buy enough guitar stuff on the iPad to make a recommendation.

  • No worries, thanks! Was using on bass sound to add bit of width etc but just kept disappearing slightly when collapsed to mono. Might give this one a go 👍🏻

  • Dimension D_elicious effect

  • BF sale on. Worth it?

  • This chorus does not seem to work as advertised. Looking at the preset names, it seems clear that the user should be able to activate several buttons simultaneously. However it is only possible to activate one button at a time. For example, the only button actually pressed in the presets ‘all buttons in’ and ‘buttons 2+4’ is button 4!

Can anyone replicate this, and if you find the same behaviour, report to the dev at support [at] ddmf.eu

Yes. Replicated. Like this effect but does seems odd. Will message them

Yet another faulty app in this bundle. If you also have the ERS 250 reverb, you might also want to complain about the aliasing on the modern mode and the time lag in the responsiveness of buttons. This whole trio of ERS apps are really subpar in various ways, and have been since release, as far as I can tell. I have also messaged the dev, but the more the merrier. Must do better!

Damn that’s a shame. I was really considering the bundle but will hold off for now. Are the rest of his apps this way? I only have MagicVerb and love it, but I really want his channel strip and compressor(s).
