Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. I made my first ACOUSTIC Drum and Bass song (on an iPad)

Had to share this...I was inspired by the Rock the Boat event in Toronto this past week and decided to try and make a drum and bass track, on a guitar, using an iPad.

Don’t worry...I’m not in trouble. But let me know...recipe for disaster or ...

P.S: There’s usually an Easter egg at the end of these type of videos. 🤔

Edit: Here was the DnB event I went to that inspired this video.

  • Good stuff! Keep going with building on that idea. Don’t hear much acoustic DnB since Roni Size. I think it gives a more accessible Pop-ish modern feel with acoustic instruments against a typical DnB rhythm. Great voice btw! 👍

    "Sauf London Massive represent.!!!"

    I love my d n b raves.

"If you ain't sweating, you ain't raving"

    Anyway...

You are a really good songwriter.
Melodic, catchy and everyone can sing the lines.

Let's have a chat about that soonish.
Before the end of year type thing...

    Nice video.

SynthMaster One and Two are perfect for production.
The presets save so much time and effort.

There were quite a few drum n bass tracks that used acoustic instruments.
Jazz samples were used by Roni Size during the 90's to good effect for instance.

Have a look here at one of his live sets recorded for the BBC in the 90's.

    There are many more examples.

    and more importantly.

Congratulations on writing your first drum and bass track.

    It's a good beginning.

  • awesome @seonnthaproducer . throw some reese bass in there!

  • Awesome, agreed killer voice and the guitar work fit so nicely. Would love to hear a fully arranged and mixed version of this track.

I like that you are primarily using GarageBand, with all the software I've used on and off iOS it's what I end up coming back to most, it's just such a solid toolbox. It's a lot more versatile than people give it credit for.

I can imagine the excitement, but totally no need for capital letters. It's not done on a forum.

I like the fact he has emotion, he expresses himself and not in an insulting way.

I remember last year a young man was forced of this forum because of a thread title.

    He was accused of scamming.

    That almost broke his heart.

That was the saddest thing I've ever seen on this forum.

No compassion, no empathy, no care.

This will most probably get me reprimanded or even thrown off the Forum
but at the end of the day I've certainly seen far worse than writing

I've just left one Forum because of something so heinous I can't even type it.

    Share his joy.

There are much worse things than capital letters.

    I don’t smile with everyone.

If you have thought twice about
    your approach then an apology
    to Seon would be cool.

You’re going to need to build that bridge

Someone else’s joy doesn’t deserve that.

  • Nice one Seonn! I left a comment on your YT as well. I dig your enthusiasm!

I like the arrangement! This actually reminds me of Linkin Park (and that my friend is a good thing!)

    Yeah, apologise, you know...
"I watched your video and thought it was really cool kinda thing.
Sorry for being snarky but I haven't had my coffee and had a bad day
Glad you had a fun time and thank you for trying to cheer us up"

So therefore I take this is as you would like to argue.

Don't tag me again and please refrain from communicating with me.

Like I've said I don't smile with everyone.

It's up to Seon whether he would like to entertain you.

    I know the Forum rules.
I've been on here long enough.

Which part of "do not tag me again" do you not understand?

I'm not interested in communicating with you anymore.
    At all.
    End off.

As I've stated if I ever post up another thread walk on by.

If you see my name/handle don't click it.

    That's it.

Now I'm going to listen to some drum and bass
    and communicate with some adults.

    Yes, it is.

  • Catching up on comments...wasn’t expecting a lot, haha.

Thanks @Spidericemidas Appreciate the comments. Been a fan since I saw your presets on Synth One. Didn’t know you listened to DnB.

I had a totally different question...when you’re designing your presets, do you think of an instrument you’re trying to replicate, or does it come from endless amounts of experimentation? Curious because each preset I listened to on Synth One seemed varied, which suggests that they may each have been done from scratch.

@Gravitas Whoa, that’s awesome. Super glad I went to the event. Didn’t know a lot about Drum and Bass, and now there’s a whole new world for sound experimentation that I wouldn’t have known about.

Agreed on SynthMaster 1 and 2. It’s one of those apps that keeps giving you more than you imagined.

I’m surprised that acoustic instruments were used. From what I found, it seemed synth heavy (which was the reason I was initially thinking Agonizer) but it’s awesome to see I can make use of apps with acoustic sounds (Pure Synth, Module, and Beathawk comes to mind)

Reading through the comments down, wow, man thanks for the support. Really appreciate it 🙏🏾

@shinyisshiny That was what it was. Thank you. I was trying to figure out what the bass sound was. Any recommendations for apps with Reese Bass presets? I was thinking Agonizer and SynthMaster One, but I could be potentially missing one I already have.

@icsleepers Wow, wasn’t expecting the positive comments on my vocals, haha. I added vocals because something I learnt last year or so was a song can be broken down into vocals, Melody, drum, and bass to “sound complete”. Which was the reason I started singing on the things I work on.

Yeah, I really like GarageBand for a lot of reasons, and you’re right in how underrrated it is. It’s one of the main reasons I started my channel. That, and Ampify apps, but now the list has slowly expanded. Thanks again.

True, I guess caps could be misinterpreted as shouting. Was more excitement than anything. I learnt a lot these past few weeks, that completely changed the way I produce music. Gravitas did summarize a lot of points, even better than I was expecting.
That said, I’ll adjust some of the fonts to be less pronounced.

@Edward_Alexander Thanks. Linkin Park has been a childhood inspiration so it’s awesome to see them being mentioned.

I can, mais pas tous les jours ;)

  • @seonnthaproducer not sure off the top of my head, but making a reese bass is very simple. theres plenty of tutorials out there and it can be done with most synths!

  • @seonnthaproducer Been a huge fan of the DnB genre since first hearing LTJ Bukem, Dillinja, Photek, Goldie and so many other greats back in the 90s!

Have made a few attempts at DnB tracks myself which were fun to do.

Most of my patches are made from scratch each time from an init patch. I almost always have a design in my head before I start each one for how I want it to behave and sound, and I usually know how to get there pretty quickly. It’s always best that way to have a clear aim at the start, otherwise you just spend hours tweaking randomly and aimlessly without focus (which is great for relaxation and experience, but not so great if you want to get anything specific done quickly). Of course, there are also the happy accidents that happen sometimes along the way. If I stumble upon something good along the way, like a possible variation, I save it as a “WiP”, finish the one I’m working on and return to the WiP to create a variation.

There are some common basic settings that are staple for creating and enhancing certain types of sounds and behaviours like Pads, Plucks, Bass, Percs, so once you know them you can get to where you want to be very quickly and then fine tune from there.

  • @Spidericemidas
Interesting that you mention LTJ Bukem.
My cousin was a promoter in Finland
for a number of years and one of the
artists he promoted was LTJ Bukem
so when LTJ was performing there
I flew out to Helsinki to give my cousin support and more importantly to rave alongside a few thousand other punters
    as it was my birthday.
I still have the back stage passes.
It was a wicked all nighter.

Now that sounds like the most cool piece of luck! Great memories! That Logical Progression album blew my mind when it first came out. Goldie’s Timeless album took me to places I’d never imagined possible at the time too. What an amazing genre DnB is!
