New James Bond film - worst 007 film ever? - DO NOT open if you don't want to see SPOILERS!

edited October 2021 in Other

WARNING - SPOILERS BELOW - DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE MAJOR PLOT & CHARACTER SPOLIERS FOR THE NEW BOND FILM....

Anyone seen the new 007 Bond movie?

I saw it last night and was shocked. And not in a good way.

  1. Running length was 2hours 45 mins. That's about an hour too long.
  2. Bond is a daddy. The film reveals he has a 5 year old girl. What?
  3. The evil baddie kidnaps baby Bond + mother and Bond has to rescue them and at the same time defuse the baddies humanity-killing weapon. What?
  4. CIA's Felix Leiter is killed. Been part of Bond for 50+ years and they kill him.
  5. Spectre's evil leader Blofeld is killed. Been part of Bond for 50+ years and they kill him.

All of this I can kind of swallow BUT....

  1. James Bond is killed. I'm not kidding.

This beautifully made film is the worst in the entire series - even worse than "Moonraker".

Sorry - I was still typing when you left your message. My message above explains why I was so shocked.

Usually you see trailers and have an idea of what will happen in many films (not a good thing). But this time I had no idea of what the end of the film had in store. Knocked me for six!

  • Wow. I’ve never been a giant fan but good lord that is pretty insane stuff.

My dad is a huge fan of James Bond. He told me that the media in Montreal wrote that this is the best James Bond ever.

    Media gonna media.

I'm not gonna spoil it for him, but he will be disappointed big time.

No, don't tell him. He'll enjoy the first 99% of the film as it is a quality production but in the last 2 minutes he'll be shocked

Yeah - the critics are lapping it up as they think it gives the Bond character "depth" or something. And Craig plays it well.

But what they don't realise is that Bond is lightweight, escapist entertainment with a 60 year history of Bond winning and a positive ending (OHMSS excepted). The ending in "NoTime To Die" is a real downer.

  • The last two Bond films were terrible, wasn’t really expecting this one to be any better tbh.

  • Yeah, the Daniel Craig era started off with a bang, Casino Royale was a classic. Haven’t seen the new one, but the other 3 or 4 were totally average or below. I guess the one where they shack up and defend themselves in his childhood home had some moments. But that Craig/Eva Green chemistry in CR was perfect and I’ve gotta go all teenager and note that she was smokin’ in that movie.

My favorite of all time is still Goldeneye. Still the most quotable and had enough of a lighthearted cheeky air about it to deserve the “Bond film” status. The rest of the Brosnans also sucked. And shoutout to Goldeneye 64 for doing such a picture-perfect adaptation of the movie. That game was so incredible growing up.

  • They kill Bond? Reminds me of that Third Rock from the Sun episode where they write a spec script for X Files and kill Mulder in the first scene.

    Yes, they kill Bond.

Bond does what he normally does: orders a missile strike to blow up the baddie's secret base but he misjudges things and is unable to get off the island before the missiles rain down on him. Bye bye Bond.

Next scene is M's office where they are toasting the memory of James Bond.

Next scene is the mother and baby Bond in his Aston driving along the mountain road. She says to the kid "Darling, let me tell you a story about a man called Bond. James Bond."

    Roll credits.

And at the end of the credits they say "James Bond will return".

Sadly, they left out "from the dead"...

A zombie 007 would be kinda cool.

  • Actually moonraker is good

  • Live and Let Die. Best ever. It all went downhill from there.

  • I loved Moonraker. The whole space thing was very well done.

Amazing audio in "Moonraker". I went to a short private screening to showcase the Dolby in Hoyts new cinema in Sydney in 1979 and they ran the reel with the Amazon jungle scene and the surround sound bird noises were brilliant.

I thought the whole concept with Bond is that he is so incredibly smart, strong, fast and damned lucky that he never dies, so the series can go on and on... maybe they finally committed suicide with this? No ideas left, everything has been squeezed to death.

"Bond will return", hm, probably a sister we didn't know about before will take his place and take revenge. Jane Bond.

Yes. The concept with Bond is that he is the best. The charisma of Bond is that he is the best. And, as the best, he can get out of every situation to win the day. This is something the film producers have pushed for 60 years but with this film they have just said that Bond is like everybody else - he can lose.

Nobody Does It Better? Not any more...

The gun-barrel sequence seen at the start of Bond films is changed in this film. For the first time there is no blood after Bond fires his shot. This film is full of diabolical liberties!

Oh, and the film clumsily reveals that Q is gay. Bond and Moneypenny arrive at his apartment as he is fussingly getting dinner ready for his male date. I guess we now know what "Q" stands for.

No worries! The next Bond movie will probably start off with showing how he miraculously escaped death in the last movie... and business and action as usual...

There are many such things in The Walking Dead.

    Oh no it won't.

Have you seen it? The way it is filmed is there is no cut away, no editing trick where he might suddenly open a secret trapdoor and escape or jump to safety. He stands there as the missles rain down, the single figure of Bond not moving, and is blown away in 1 locked off shot. Although it is an "action sequence" with missiles falling from the sky there is no fast editing. From the way it is filmed it is clear they wanted the audience to understand Bond is dead.

2 days after seeing the film and I am still in shock that they have done this. Still can't quite believe the producers would go with this ending.

  • I've just seen it with the kids, it was pretty epic and very good fun. The bad guy was beautifully creepy.

Personally I just can't get upset at an entertainment franchise. It's like when people complain about Star Wars. It's just a damn movie, it's not meant to be deep, it's just entertainment. I don't really understand why people take it so seriously. Sorry, nothing personal :)

  • Just see the movie: what about leaving all ends open, its after all James Bond. They still can go either way….lots of things/ideas to bring him back.

They made from him dad and killed him ?

Ok, thanks for saving my time, not interested to watch it .. I guess in next Bond movie will be 007 woman or non-caucasian (or both plus also transgender) to satisfy modern gender/equality nonsense agenda ...

    Sad end of franchise.

Well, the movie is quite good! But there is only one James Bond. That persona/character cannot be replaced. So hopefully this is the end OR he miraculously comes back. The plane/boat was also still there…..

  • The next movie will have a new Bond and w> @dendy said:

It isn't the end of the franchise. The next film will have a different Bond. They can ignore anything that happened in the current film. And just tell new stories about whoever the new Bond is.

I tend to think of any Bond film as a standalone that exists in its own universe.

  • The movie industry has been kind of a joke for a while now, all they seem to do these days is remakes and reboots. no creativity or originality.

A bit like the music industry in many ways. Ah...... the beauty of the Global and free market.. I feel a corporate slogan coming on.

Agreed. And I loved it ;) Especially as the choice of car, some of the dialogue, and—in particular—the music, told us how it was going to end. Plot was bonkers, of course.

The theme song is, in my opinion at least, the best Bond theme ever 👍 And the spicy chord at the end of the song from Johnny Marr is awesome. I also loved the way the melody was used in some key moments. And there were lots of little winks and references thrown in to the movie.

I think it is because it is something you have gown up with from childhood and followed for 50 years. The character is like an old friend. You go on a cinematic escapist romp with him every 2 or 3 years.

But you can say the same about anything: " I don't really understand why people take it so seriously when an app doesn't have AUv3. It's just a damn app".
