Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.
Oscilab update
Now it's a midi controller as well.

As in virtual midi for other apps??
It has Different Drummer style wave controls plus you can send out cc messages too.
Cool, I like Oscilab
I've been watching this app for a while but never got to pull the trigger. This update could finally make me decide. What do you guys think of it? Actually useful for producing stuff?
I'm just testing in AB with iSEM, Animoog to Loopy and enjoying it. Easy midi mapping of notes and cc, clock send and receive. All works fine. One crash till now. Thanks for that unexpected update. It's like Auxy on the bus plus x
Hmmm sounds like it could do similar things to MidiLFOs now?
Tricky recording inbuilt instruments and MIDI connections at the same time - managed to do it using MIMIX into Audioshare but sound vanished when I added AS and I had to record it unmonitored. Possibly easier via Auria into separate tracks.
Nice though, I like the simplicity of the wave sequencer, and it's great I can use the pads to control the MIDI connected apps. Not sure about creating finished tracks, but as a simple MIDI controller it's fun to use.
And it s universal !
Thanks monzo, this is great to know.
Yep. Every synth sound on this track came out of Oscilab:
Wow, thanks so much, developer! I once wrote to you to request this feature. Now the dream comes true on Oscilab! This is exactly the developer pays attention to customer feedback. I can see how melodical the Oscilab pattern sequncer can show us. This is biggest strength to choose Oscilab to have serious fun with. Appreciated!
Right now sequencing laplace and Lorentz.. everything works perfectly ..
even sending midi CCs and then using midi learn on the icegear synths ... great fun !
^Ditto. Thanks very much to the Dev.
As monzo commented on, using the Pads to automate MIDI CCs is really great. (similar to Fingerlab DFX in operation)
I was hoping for this update too
Yeah, that's a great evolving track. Thanks. With this and monzo's input, it's bought. Now to play with my soundfonts
This sounds like a lot of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this app for the first few weeks after purchasing and then sort of forgot about it.
Oooh. This sounds cool. Might need to reinstall
I bought it on release, then drifted away as I'd got a bit bored with the internal sounds - the MIDI update has given it a whole new lease of life.
So... Remind me. Grid based? Piano roll?
It's a bit like Different Drummer - you can use waves, or change them with a note/wave editor - not as flexible as a piano roll editor IMO, but fine for knocking up quick riffs.
It's never going to rival Gadget, but good for mucking about with.
So this is potentially big stuff though, no?
@Funjunkie - so is this as good as different drummer? If not why not?
It works by generating a low frequency waveform, then another, then another, of selectable wave shapes. You can add them together (additive synthesis of the low frequency kind), in varying amplitudes, and you can move the phase of each, too (slide it sideways). You can also draw out another overall amplitude modifying ramp across the specified repeating bars. Then you use a gate sequencer to specify a rhythm of interceptions across the resulting additive waveform, each interception should be either “held” (like a sample+hold, the initially sampled value is held for the duration of the gate), or not (i.e., a continually variable gated section of the waveform appearing and varying during the portion of the gate). This situation applies to not only the frequency, but the amplitude and also the harmonic content (via a filter) all independently. You’ve a small bunch of separate instruments like this (which can be synth based (simple) or sample based). And a couple of drum tracks that work the same kind of way.
There are probably very important differences between this and Different Drummer, which people who use both can tell. For me (me, me, me as JGY would say), however, the key point is that, after a few minutes, I'm already doing a nice beat in Oscilab. I could never get anything out of DD, and it is no longer on my iPad. I can see myself using Oscilab for a long time - it is a very creative sequencer, has great internal sounds, and works flawlessly thru MIDI controlling 6 different tracks at the same time, with 6 different soundfonts, in MTS. I'm really happy Thanks to you guys who recommended it!
Help! How do I get any midi out of it?
Am I missing something?
I can get it to send clock to Gadget. But no notes or ccs or anything.
Or to any other synth.
In the pattern sequence themselves... you can select midi channels or targets ( like in auxy)
Same for midi CCs
Ok. Weird. I just reinstalled it and I think it didn't give me the most recent version. I see I have an update waiting. Downloading that now. V
I've only tried it with Animoog so far, but it worked as expected.
I first opened Oscilab, then Animoog. In Animoog, I went into setup, and selected Oscilab as MIDI IN, and used Channel 1.
Back to Oscilab, where I selected the part to send MIDI, selected "MIDI" from the choices above the waveform, and then selected Animoog.
I've made it work with Soundcanvas midi channels. Ah!ah!ah! ! It's f#ckin' amazing !
