Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Do you want actual force to be translated to velocity or your finger position on the controller to influence velocity? Velocity keyboard is the only keyboard I know that translates force to velocity.

    just finger position

Can't. Surface builder doesn't support it.
Check out Xequence AU Pads or KB-1.

  • Velocity Keyboard is my go-to for on-screen finger drumming!

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/velocity-keyboard/id1462605052

There's a Drum setting that sets up a 4x4 grid and adds an Edit button to the top left. Hit Edit and you can cycle thru whatever notes you want the pads to be. Edit again, and locked in place

VelKB's best feature tho, faux-velocity sensing

Using a combo of how much flesh you mash into the screen initially along with using the gyro for movement sensing, it works VERY well for finger drumming, if you're used to pad play!

I also use it for keys when I'm going naked--err hardware-less but it's finicky

While not as precise as a proper physical 4x4 hardware pad, id give it a Highly.... highly recommended

(Ooo I'll do one of my OneShot preset pack runthrus on VKB! Instant comparison sounds)

  • +1 for the suggestions given already. If you're open to using something outside dedicated MIDI control surface, you have a lot of additional choices by using apps that have built in pads for sending MIDI with velocity control, including Segments, Digistix 2, EG Pulse, Sitala, and many more.

  • KB-1 has positional velocity

    oh cool.

My bad - I see what you're talking about. I tested Sitala with a kit and samples loaded. It looks like it only sends MIDI once a sample is assigned to the pad, so not the easiest option. If you see any other issues, I can post a video of how I set it up and tested in AUM.

I just checked. if I load the Midi version of the app within a midi channel within an AUM. it will transmit midi out
