Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

I bought the Jazzkit when it was $10 (I don’t own the OneShot desktop plugin but they said it would be compatible with iOS). I just installed the Jazzkit to the OneShot app and it sounds great. This release is a big deal IMO.

Does Jazzkit mean one drum kit + folder with different presets based on this kit?

  • May have to save up!

Is the Ugritone and actual physical drum set ?

Thought you could Google if you'd not familiar with them 🙃 but okay, here's the link: https://ugritone.com/collections/midipacks

I think so too, and I think despite the initial buggy release it will be a massively popular release. Very reasonable intro price too

I actually thought they would go higher as (when working as intended) it is in a quite unique spot being the only "real" drummer that's also Auv3 have MultiOut Round Robin etc. So, that was a nice surprise.
I do own it on desktop too and did get the Unholy Drum pack on a sale. They sound great but are wildly overpriced but then again: production cost for those are not cheap even if they seem to do it in house.

I’m also noticing the response issue you mentioned in your video - I thought it might be a result of the small text and icons being difficult to select correctly, but even on my 13” it occasionally doesn’t respond, despite accurately hitting the buttons. The UI also doesn’t resize, which is surprising.

Overall though it’s a cracking app for the price, and means I can retire a few others from my hoard.

Me too, it’s a very generous intro discount, and I doubt it’ll go this low again in the future.

Sales are a regular part of developers remaining competitive in the App Store ecosystem. I wouldn't worry about that too much. Buy something if you need it, not because it's on sale for a limited time.

I thought it would be pricier for sure - good that they recognize that this is mainly a hobbyist platform and sensitive to pricing!

  • That sounds great.

Curious which apps you will retire now

Ableton Link, Play in Background both missing ... as do a settings page. Some things do look very hasty and to be honest: sloppy! Not much can take away how pleased I am though, despite all missing features, and that says a lot..

I don’t have a big budget, so sales are essential for my hobbyist requirements. At 33% of the retail price, this is a generous discount. They do have regular sales, and I’ve bought their other drum/percussion apps during those times, but I can’t remember them knocking off 66%. I don’t have App Raven, but vaguely recall a 40% discount at most.

Seems like a good time to buy, and it’s a very powerful app.

I’ll lose a few on the old Air 4 as it’s very tight on space - so a couple of Lumbeats (the new Klevgrand + Logic session drums is great for fills), a few kits sampled for Koala, maybe my other Klevgrands….

I don’t need to make space on the new 13” though, so they’re safe on that one!

I thought Lumbeats might be mentioned. Pity those hadn't been made auv3. Manuals would have helped with Lumbeats apps too

So a sample triggered in OS or Drambo sampler ( where you add velocity zones etc )

Will be the same in Fac drum ?

FAC Drumkit doesn't support velocity zones as far as I know and only uses short samples truncating longer samples on import.
Just play around with the apps and discover what they are capable of...

    Thanks.

I can get velocity in Fac etc and have made a Drambo sampler module ( with 4 samples in the vertical velocity grid )

It just seems to make sample louder.

I suspect multi layers are some realism

    but how ?

I'm not clear about the wording there. To me it could mean 33% off or 33% of the eventual price. I think it's more likely that it means 33% off.

  • Yeah, I also read it as 33% off. Their wording is "Now on 33% intro sale" - could have been worded better.

    My dilemma.

I get 16 sounds per track, with a load of additional modules, instead of a 1 shot.

All I need is choke per track

So kick is dominant ( mainly when using Euclidean sequencers )

I can probably just p- lock solo or mute for drums so auto fills is only heard.

Not using swing per track here as it dosent work with euclidean ( which is naturally swung )

You can also make drums fm if you need.

My best bet is just triggering acoustic drums in fac drum?

Reason why i were asking question.

For me to use app means an entire different template etc.

This is not an Drambo thread, it’s about OneShot!

If you don’t need OneShot! and can do ”everything” in Drambo, we are a lot of Drambo-lovers here that thinks the opposite…

Yeah, I’m using Logic quite a bit now, so they’re hardly used at all, aside from the occasional AUM jam. Patterning 1&2 are looking vulnerable too…

Could be, either way it’s a good deal compared to their other percussion apps:

For example Skaka is nearly £50 on desktop, £20 on iOS.

OneShot is £150 on desktop, so £27-ish (+ 33%?) full price for iOS seems like a bargain.

  • @sigma79 said:

Simple, different samples at for different velocity levels, and round-robins to change to different sample (still at same velocity level) to add some variation.

Think Lhitting a snare softly (low velocity) and hard (higher velocity).
Then depending on how the velocity scaling is done it crossfades between the samples.

This is really super basic sampling 101.

  • I tested the desktop version last year and was seriously underwhelmed. The idea is good, there‘s definitely a need for one shot drum samplers with multiple layers, but I didn‘t gel with the UI. I can imagine that it‘s worse on an iPad.

I hope the guys behind Sitala will implement a multi-layer/round robin feature in the next update.
I wish someone could port a plugin like Speedrum ( desktop only so far ) to iOS. It‘s lightweight, 64 pads with 16 layers each, built-in sequencer with MIDI drag&drop and a thousand other cool things. And it‘s really really quick to handle, something I don‘t see with OneShot.

Until then I stick with Digistix 2, which is awesome.

anybody try importing drum sample packs from GGD or Circle drums , or Drum drops? just
curious to see how the import worked( as far as velocity mapping, and how it sounds

    Whatever dude.

    This isnt emotional fan clubs.

Its asking questions and giving feedback so better products are made.

Drambo ? ( I need a host ) Which also assists in the drum tracks build.

One shot would fit my drum machine ( tracks )

    Like Fac drum does.

If it were as cpu effecient as fac drum.

Otherwise I have to make a different template.

So most of what you see in vid.

Cant be applied but guess one shot would still make class jazz tracks etc.

    So maybe essential.

Just like looking at the same screen/the same template.

  • So what host you using ?

    lol.

Let's face it tho - most apps released by ios native devs don't even take advantage of the strengths of the iPad anymore, it's very sad 🤷‍♂️

And why would that be? Because all they get is crap when it’s not auv3.
Auv3 means it has to scale. Auv3 means universal. Now there are ways to make an auv3 scale. But you will never get the magic that a full-screen app can bring. Being able to build a visual map of the UI is part of the flow you can potentially get because of it.
Pick any full-screen app that was magical. Now scale it down. I think Patterning is a good example. Patterning 2 is an absolute beast in terms of workflow, speed, and intuitive control, but it still is magic. Patterning 3 is now auv3. Has some cool new features, but even in standalone, everything that made that app the flow machine that is, is simply gone missing.
Then we have Samplr. iPad for a good reason.
The first animoog. Amazing on iPad. Amazing on iPhone, why? Because it was two separate apps. Even the iPhone version is great on iPad.

Try designing a bike that everyone can ride.
You could do it, but will it be the bike you will take risks with? L

I am really surprised how most devs seem to think that auv3 means no worries about the keyboard. No worries about the midi out.
But the worst thing is having an app with an amazing on-screen keyboard. But for some reason, the virtual midi out is nonexistent. with an amazing
Now I love Auv3 for many reasons but the standard itself and its users are the primary reason that this is the current reality.

New Dev comes out with an epic full-screen app.
And all he will hear. For that price, it should be at least auv3.

  • Can you load multi samples per slot, to trigger based on velocity???

I’m not really sure what each slot can do , but it appears, host a single sample , pitch and panning …and add a couple of effects?

    I watched a few videos and that’s all i really could tell…

    Am i missing anything

Does this mean its more better for live hits and to not got back editing ?

Can you not edit to a sequencer. Non multi samples ( and without round robins )

So edit velocity amounts to sequencer etc

and if we go back to fac drum with 16 outputs. Perhaps use these outputs and track tools to sequence variations.

Obviously theres maybe more variation ( of the potential 16 hits per track. If the au is actually a drum synth and not just samples, maybe.

Whatever it is ( tool wise ) to make variation, likend to realism ( either tools, fx or sequencing re-models )
