Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.
Any simple tools to Ratchet or Stutter the MIDI data of a static Block Chord progression?
Hey guys, are there any apps, tools or methods you can suggest that would take a static MIDI chord progression like this:
...and turn it into this?:
Is there a method to use an LFO to split the notes up in such a way?
I'll be happy to hear of any solutions either via iPad or Desktop. Ableton plugins etc.
The effect I'm after is the chord stutter effect that can be heard on the Rival Consoles track Recovery:
I'm hoping to actually split the MIDI notes rather than apply an audio effect.
Cheers.

Quite easy to do in Drambo. MIDI is re-generated so you can also play live and send the stuttered notes to an AUv3 plugin.
Only the first four modules are required when using an AUv3 sound generator.
Ah Drambo eh! Cool.
Who woulda guessed? 🤣
I don't suppose you know if there is a version of this up on Patch Storage at all?
edit: Extra question... can that regenerated midi then be exported as midi file?
Many thanks for the suggestion.
I can upload it later when I find the time but it's really simple.
Note that the Amp is processing the Gate output of the first MIDI2CV and sends it to the Gate input of the MIDI Note Generator.
Drambo cannot export MIDI yet but I'd use the MIDI Tape Recorder or LK AUv3s for that.
Hey @rs2000 good tips thanks. I'll look to set this up and record into MIDI Tape Rec. Ta.
That tune is on a UK advert ?
Can you use bleass dragonfly ?
StepPoly Arp would more than likely be able to do this.
When you create the 'chop pattern' just make sure you set the held note number (order) for each step so the notes in the held chord will be used instead of transposing them to the values on the left side (if you need to make a pattern for 4 notes, set the left transpose value to 0 for 4 rows). Or do the 'one finger dance' and let the arpeggiator do its magic.
In most cases the 'trance gate' effect would be easier to make with something Bleass Motion FX.
Logic's built-in arpeggiator can also do this. Just tell it to trigger a chord instead of notes and create a trigger pattern for it.
There's so many ways to do the same thing...
You're welcome 😊
By the way, you could record the audio from the video, run it through an Envelope Follower and record the control voltage output with Flexi, then use Flexi and a Math Scale+Offset instead of the LFO.
That would allow you to re-use the exact same rhythmic pattern as in the song, which sounds more like an arbitrary trigger speed decrease than a straight rhythmic pattern 😉
You don't need the channel feature here.
And no, the second MIDI2CV is not needed if you're feeding an AUv3.
See my comments above, you need to make sure that you're processing the Gate signal (that little rectangle symbol on the connection port).
In general, it's better to use volume or filter automation for this, not chopping of notes.
The effect is very different. You'll loose the sound attacks when using automation which won't give you the result like in the OP's track.
It would make more sense to use the Graphic Envelope module here. You can start drawing "automation" (which will in fact generate new MIDI notes) with the 16th grid enabled, then add faster rolls with grid snapping disabled to achieve the desired result.
Example:
Great @SinghSong!
Not sure if it fits your specific requirements (it works on audio, not midi), but I think BramBos Perforator is one app that's built to do something like you want, at least worth mentioning here. I think there are a couple similar plugins (maybe one from FAC?) but can't think of them at the moment:
RhythmBud can be pretty good for this kind of thing. It's not something you can manipulate in real time with a midi controller, but it's really easy to set set up rhythms, and the ratchet mode is really great for on the fly modifications (from the screen).
Nice! And you can even tap-in your own rhythm as it seems.
Thanks for suggesting this - only $3.99 and I love the results. @rs2000 I assume this app has the same issue with the attack that you mentioned above? Depending on how long the chops are, there's not a lot of room to hear much attack anyway though is there?
Oh you can definitely hear the difference with any synth sound that has some distinct attack, like in the track above.
I see what you mean now - I was trying it with sounds without much attack. Probably a PITA to just draw the midi notes, or just play them at a slower tempo and speed it up?
Somehow I missed all the replies here. Catching up now, thanks guys!
Depends on what you prefer
Some great suggestions here. Thanks all!
I'm gonna go through and experiment with a few of these for iPad solutions.
For my purposes, keeping the transient was important, so I was looking to manipulate midi note lengths rather than ducking volume or filter.
I actually just found a perfect Desktop solution in Ableton 12 today with their Time Warp feature:
Process:
(cough... @SevenSystems Xequence3? ... cough )
I'll still experiment with the options mentioned here though. Thanks again.
Audio example:
Thanks for the enthusiasm, don't hold your breath though 🥴
You could try Gatelab to reproduce that effect. It lets you get smaller chop than Perforator with longer patterns.
It is also free.
