Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Old Friend (Solo, Noire, Dolce, Omnisphere)

This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the clarinet, cello, oboe, bassoon, and flute; Noire for the piano; Dolce for the basses; and Omnisphere for the other instruments.

After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

It's titled Old Friend.

    Absolutely beautiful!

    What's your expression method/control?

Swells sound to varied to be automated, but I'm in early ear training, so I'm always curious

  • Thanks, @PapaBPoppin. Much appreciated.

No automation or overdubbing. Wouldn't know how to do those anyway. I try to keep it as close to pure improvising, as possible.

I usually choose a piano preset and a solo instrument preset, layer them onto two MIDI keyboards, and just improvise. It then goes where it goes. If the MIDI recording is worth keeping, I re-orchestrate the notes onto multiple tracks for the different instruments. I never add new notes, but often mute some of the notes in places. And I almost always slow everything down globally, as the end result seems to sound better if the notes have room to breath and resonate.
