16 channel midi drum module.

does anyone know of a resource to get a diy 16 channel midi drum module. My son has an electronic drum kit and the midi drum module went out.
he uses it mostly as a midi controller on his computer or tablet. I have been making pcb’s at home recently, and thought i’d take a arduino and make one for him. but I can’t find any projects online to follow along with or find code for.
do you guys know of any?

    What brand and model of module went out? Just curious. I’m getting the urge to take the jump into the E-Drum pool.

    simmons sd350. the onboard sounds still work, but the midi no longer transmits. we tried switching usb cables, and resetting to factory specs. but no luck. it does t even show up as a midi device in abelton, but does show up as an external usb drive. very odd

    the onboard sounds where never that great. Roland does a much better on kit sounds in comparison

    So sad when hardware starts to loose functions. Simmons was “the one to get” back in the early years.
    Now, the Roland kits are making me drool. But they are the “Tesla” of this product category. There are a few sub $500 options that Temu keeps pushing at me.

    Maybe you should shop for a used Roland, Yamaha or Alesis module which might be <$200. I’m assuming a drum trigger is portable between these controllers.

    I begged @FredAntonCorvest to add some pitch detection to “FAC Envolver” so we could make basic
    Drum Trigger rigs in AUM using the iPad mic. Low pitch for KICK note and high pitch for SNARE at a minimum. But it’s probably too niche.

    This is the best one I've encountered so far. Ticks all the boxes for a straightforward sampler (rompler) and is fairly easy to get up and running.
    Hopefully you're still able to get MIDI data out of your drum kit.
