Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Thank you. One of the best daws! I do wish the piano roll used arrows for moving/length similar to nanostudio 2. I think that would really help workflow on iPhone especially. Is that something you would consider? @LFS

Thanks for constantly updating this app and interacting with the community

  • Once I got used to the tool icons on the left side in Cubasis I really don’t miss the NS2 arrows at all.
Make a selection pick a tool (length, pitch, volume, x/y position etc.) and swipe anywhere on the screen to adjust/move the selected events.

Not saying that that the Cubasis piano-roll doesn’t need improvements but it’s at least usable in its current state. One area that is still a bit tricky is removing notes from the selection while an editing tool is selected.

  • Good thread ..

This would be OK as an additional or user configurable way of editing the piano roll but as an iPad user I want to be able to edit the notes directly rather than 'by proxy'. In fact, the only thing that stops me using Xequence 2 is that you can't move or edit note lengths directly and have to use the arrows to do this

Good point. It’s just problematic on iPhone since you can’t grab the beginning or end of a midi note easily. Most of the time it just deselects everything

Yes. It would be a nice thing to be able to switch on as an option. But for someone who’s spent as much time in the Cubasis 3 piano roll as I have, it’s not fiddly or awkward. If I use LP4iP, it’s fiddly and awkward - but by the time I’m finishing up working on my track, it’s cool because I’m used to it. Same in any iOS DAW. Usually when people say a piano roll is awkward what they should be saying is, I’ve spent 1000’s of hours in GarageBand and 2 using Helium - it’s so awkward! But when it comes to phone size screens, anything like that could be super helpful.

    @LFS

Hi Lars, I just noticed the master solo button at the top of the page. I don’t know how long it’s been there, but thanks to the team for implementing it.

A couple of really helpful things that would make it complete::

First, could it light up when a solo button is activated?

Secondly, when I toggle the master solo button could it recall the previous solo state rather than just solo everything?

So the two toggle states on the master switch would be and .

It should be easy to implement with a constant that records the most recent solo button combination which is updated each time a track solo button is pressed and then recalls that when you press the solo master when all tracks are not in a solo state. I could write out a logic diagram if it would help to clarify.

Hopefully, we’ll have Plugin Delay Compensation at some point?

Thank you for all the great work with Cubasis.

  • A quick question to the knowledgable ones:

What does the button highlighted in the screenshot do?

I’ve selected it a few times, but I am still non the wiser.

Scrolls the timeline as it plays so you can see whats played and whats going to be played next - works when your zoom level extends the width of your screen.

Hello everyone, i have a few questions about cubasis.

First one : I can't fin a way to create multiple busses or route the audio of one track into another. I get that we can create groups. But how do I, say, send a "Bass" group and a "Synths" group into another channel to process them together ?

Second : Is there a way to hide or collapse grouped tracks into the group ? The interface gets really crazy and cramped with dozens of channels at full size.

Third : Are send effects really just one effect and not an audio channel ? How can i apply eq after the reverb send effect ?

    Hi @GORF ,

    Your answers:

    1) You can’t create multiple busses. You can send a track to one group, but you can’t send a group to another group. To do what you want you would probably have to render the groups you want to bus together and import those tracks and send to another group. Long winded way, but it might work.

    2) Nope. There is no way to collapse the groups.

    3) Yes, send effects are just one effect and not an entire channel. Maybe using something like IK Multimedia’s MixBox could help with this process - you can only use the FX that are included inside MIxBox, but at least it gives you potentially 8 slots for FX processors.

I found this earlier thread in relation to groups that might be useful:

    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/46480/how-and-why-to-use-group-tracks-in-cubasis-3

    I hope this info helps.

  • @GORF I don’t want to totally trash Cubasis but…

1 Can’t be done at the moment.

2 No, the groups can not be collapsed.

3 Yes and No, they are only send effects without a dedicated return track that could be used for further processing.

All these things have been requested many, many years ago.

Feel free to make a post over at the Steinberg Cubasis forums…

  • Thanks guys !
Damn the first one really narrows the mixing possibilities...
I can live with everything else but i'll make a request for multiple busses, how hard can it be to route audio into a new mixer track ?

Well I personally have been waiting for this feature in Cubasis for 11 years, so who knows? 😅
