Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

This synth looks so cool, but sounds like Drambo (Erica Synths LXR-02)

Is it me, or does this synth look and sound amazing? I thought it kind of resembles the harshness of Drambo, but hard to say as it's only a YouTube clip.

  • Harshness?

  • I don’t think Drambo is inherently harsh. That said, cool synth!

  • Yeah, Drambo can sound as harsh or sweet as you want.

The oscillators sound pretty warm actually.

To my ear at least, but I’m a cult follower 🫡

  • Maybe I used the incorrect adjective.. I meant it to be in a hard dirty sound, but yeah Drambo can sound soft and beautiful too.

  • Can something like this really be approximated in Drambo?

I don’t see why not. It’s got all the fronts covered: sequencing, sampling, synthesis of all sorts, great fx…
And harshness? Sure it can do harsh, and I love it for it. Some of the best sounding filters and resonators. But there’s nothing inherently harsh about it

Love the LXR-02! I think it's one of the best-sounding hardware drum synths released this century. And I love that it's not trying to be yet another 808/909-sounding drum synth. Unabashedly digital-sounding, and making that a strength.

The manual has block diagrams of each of the drum voices, so if you did want to try recreating them in Drambo, that's a good place to start.

I just snagged an LXR-02 second-hand, waiting for it to arrive. I don't even have an audio interface to integrate it into my iPad productions yet, so that's next on the list. This is my first hardware device.

For others who have this machine, I'm wondering how you like to use it in tandem with the iOS music ecosystem.
