Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Routing Question

I'm working on an a Capella iPhone recording project. Right now I have it set up as VocaLive into Loopy and Loopy into Garageband. In GB, I'm using the Audio Recorder with AB (Loopy) as the input. This records everything together on one mono track. I guess my lead vocals (not looped) are just flowing into GB through Loopy? Is there a way to set this up so that the lead vocals go to a separate track than the loops? Any way to record a stereo track into GB? Thx in advance for your thoughts.

I don't think GarageBand supports a stereo track without a stereo interface. Right now it thinks you want a mono track by using the internal mic.

Multitrack DAW might help do what you want.

  • Sorry, I didn't explain very well. I'm going to film this live, so hoping to have the routing set up to capture everything (2-3 vocal loops and live lead vocals) live on separate tracks, but be able to adjust the mix in post.

Are all the vocal loops recording off the same second mic? If so, then you'll be routing the Loopy outs back into separate Input lanes in Audiobus 2 back into the DAW you choose. Multitrack DAW, Cubasis, Auria would be prime choices. Auria for post live mix, Cubasis for recording perhaps. MTD for simplicity.

  • I'm just laying them down one at a time, using the built-in mic. I experimented with piping each loop into a separate track via IAA in GB, but it just applied the same setting to all three tracks, so that seems like a fail. Part of this exercise is to use inexpensive, familiar apps (to people beyond our community), which is why I'm trying to get GB to work.
