Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

DrumPerfect Pro: Discovering the Hidden Power Within

Hello, eight years ago DrumPerfect Pro succeeded DrumPerfect, which was one of the first acoustic drum sequencers on the Appstore. The sounds were incredibly realistic, unlike anything heard before in the iOS music world. At that time, iOS was version 5 or 6, and the processors and memory of iPads were not as advanced as they are today.

Over the years, DPP has been regularly updated with new features, all of which have been provided free of charge. Additionally, many packs with rich content have been added to the production through in-app purchases.

Today, DrumPerfect Pro is a very deep and complex app, with a lot going on under the hood. You can create intricate layered multi-sampled kits by importing your own samples, sequence simple to complex patterns that can evolve over time and mimic the skills of a top drummer, and ultimately create sophisticated drum tracks for your songs.

On top of that, the app offers easy and powerful import and export functions. You can drag and drop, use Audioshare, work with zip files, and export multiple patterns. All of these features are available today.

Due to the wide range of possibilities, many users find it challenging to master the app and often give up. It was designed more like a digital musical instrument, and as such, it requires dedication to fully unleash its musical potential.

Creating tutorials to cover all aspects of what can be done with DPP would be extremely time-consuming, taking away precious time that could be used for developing new content and features. However, I am always happy to answer detailed questions posted on this forum, and Marinus can provide answers to more technical inquiries.

If you encounter a challenging step, don't hesitate to ask specific questions. You will receive a more positive response than if you simply complain or make comparisons with what the app could be. Everyone, including us developers, will learn something from the exchange.

I want to express my gratitude to every user who has been brave enough to dive into this unique app and wonder about their productions.

One last thing to mention: I am not a drummer, but a guitarist. However, the world of drumming has always fascinated me, and it has been a joy to learn how real drummers think. I encourage everyone to explore online resources to discover how drums are played, written, and orchestrated, from the simplest to the most complex. Rhythm truly is a universal language around the world. In DrumPerfect Pro, you will find a loyal companion to help you create your own groovy music.

Please find below a new tutorial that has been requested.
Your feedback and questions are welcome.

That's great but what version are you using, mine does not look like that. Buttons 'Absolute' and 'AutoJAM' are not present so either you're on a beta or I'm missing something. The volume thing also seem a bit "dangerous". Anyway, thanks for the effort.

Edit: I did get it to work in Logic, just did an empty kit and song in DPP and the changed to a demokit in Logic med it listen too the midi in Logic. Awesome! @espiegel123 and who else it was on the other thread not getting it to work. Later I'm going to try in AUM as well

The AppStore says that Gilbert Medam is a "professional composer and arranger, creator of the pack collection as well as designer of the new UI". So he's very much an insider on this app.

I know that! But he's demoing something no one of us got to work (from another thread) so before I tried following I wanted to be on the same page. Anyway, I did get it to work (see above)

  • Edit 2: I does not work, I just thought it did because I had entered a row of midi notes and it played only one drum (cowbell) but I couldn't add anything else and when I removed the midi ... it was still playing 😭 @Gilbert

  • I don’t have Logic Pro . I have tried in both AUM and Loopy Pro and in neither case does it work for me.

    My steps:

    In DPP:

    • load kit FB1 Kit
    • Go to patterns tab, create and save empty pattern as “dummy”
    • On Song tab , insert “dummy “ as sole pattern in song
    • Save song as FBKitDummy

Go to host (either Loopy Pto or AUM)

    • load dp player plugin
    • Load song FBKitDummy
    • Make sure Loop mode on is on
    • Send midi on channel 10 from a midi controller to DPP app to confirm controller is sending the right notes
    • Send same notes to DP Player

For me , nothing happens .

  • @Gilbert : here is the setup for the Dummy song that i tried to created. Please see my message immediately above. I can trigger drums by sending to the app, but the same MIDI sent to the plugin does nothing. Loop is turned on in the AUv3

    The kit:

    The pattern

    The song

@espiegel123 , one step seems to be missing from the list. Run ( play ) the host ( I tried with Logic and Aum ). And pls let me know. ( Also I would clear the song from all other patterns, for clarity ).
Why your photo shows DPP app in Loopy pro? And not the auv3 player? Once the song has been saved you can close DPP and only deal with the auv3 player.

  • My setup in Aum. Any of these midi sources work.

  • @Gilbert I want to ask again, most politely: your version of the DPP AU player looks different from what I have, why is that? The app has not been updated for two years, I think that's when I bought it actually. Are there a newer version coming?

@Pxlhg yes, that is the updated version, hence the new buttons. I don't have anymore the previous one for testing. An update is on the way.

Hello @Gilbert, ain’t you on a beta version.?
Mine is version 3.2.1, look different, has less options and doesn’t respond to midi note when hosted in auv3.

    Hi Gilbert,

Yes, I was running in both Loopy Pro and in AUM.

I loaded both the AUv3 and the standalone so that I could confirm that the MIDI I was sending was correct.

I wonder if perhaps the beta you are using works differently than the plug-in in the App Store. Can you please try the app store version.

  • I have to mention (and I'll continue mentioning it) that the process of getting an interactive drum pattern going in both GarageBand and Logic Pro are far, far simpler and they actually work more tightly with the song you're working on because you can set a "groove track" (which could be your bass or guitar, for example) to guide the drum pattern.

  • @Gilbert :Thanks for this and that new auv3 video….I have DPP and have beeen meaning to get into it more ..This is timely..

With all due respect, this thread is for people who who want to be using DrumPerfect Player and its kits. It's awesome that you love the Logic and Garageband drummers. I think we are aware of them and have reasons that we would like to get this particular workflow working for us.

Threads are for contributing knowledge. This is supplemental knowledge. Thanks.

  • @Gilbert : here is a demonstration of what i am doing in Loopy Pro...I have also tried in AUM.

Btw, it would be great if the transport did not have to be running for this to work. I'd like to be able to trigger the drums from my controller when the transport is not yet running (and the tempo not yet set...as ideally, I will be using the drums to record the audio loop that sets the tempo.

  • @espiegel123 , @Pxlhg , @Jeezs , and anyone else.

That is the reply I just receive from Marinus.

"Midi support for the AUv3 version is a feature of the new version, both in and out.

I suggest that if the new kits and fills are ready we include them and release an update, such that users can enjoy the new features."

I think it's clear. Just a bit of patience. I think it will be worth the wait...

They may be simpler and work more tightly in the song if you're using GarageBand or Logic Pro to compose the song. If you're not, then their lack of ability to integrate with other apps is cumbersome. Using a Drummer track in a song composed in another host is quite cumbersome (but worth it sometimes).

Accurate. They're another tool in the toolbox to consider.

Thanks for the clarification. I look forward to the new version when it becomes available.

Can you ask Marinus about the possibility of triggering drums even if the transport isn’t running?

It would also be great to be able to trigger patterns.

  • Hi,

Good to hear I wasn't nuts:-)

Can't see presets in Beat maker 3. Am I out of luck?

And I can't get a midi CC to close the hi hat. Read the manual...think I've tried everything.
    This is in the app.

Oh yes, this is worth the wait, incredible news!!

I know it does work, but it's been so long I don't remember how. I'll try to look into it later.

  • I would love tutorials on this DPP

  • I would love to be able to use dpp as a normal auv3 instrument so I could trigger its sounds using Logic Pro’s drummer. I spend my time on other elements and want just sketch the drums myself this way to create parts rather than being very meticulous (I have a lot of affection for dpp but it’s not an intuitive layout or workflow imo). It’s just about how much time I want to spend on various things. This would make it a cool app for me as I’m not sure but think the acoustic drums re probably among the best on iOS.
