Recording guitar into iPad. (question)

All I have right now is the first irig for recording guitar onto iPad. I'm not expecting high quality results, but I was wondering if there are any tips for a better sound till I'm able to afford another option. I was tinkering around with the headphone output from my guitar amp. Sounds decent directly into headphones and was wondering if theres a way to transfer that sound to the iPad. setup: Guitar is plugged into the amp, have a cable coming out of the headphone jack to the irig, recording into garageband. It sounds better than before. Seems to amplify the signal, but something seems off as if I can improve it. Maybe a setting within garageband itself? I don't know.

I also wanted to know what you guys thought about the irig hd. It would be nice to know if there are any better options within that price range so I have an idea what to get when the time comes. Thanks.

    Why don't you go directly from your guitar to irig to GarageBand? In GB you can make a track with the instrument 'Guitar Amp', and there you can choose all sorts of amps and effects. I do this all the time, but perhaps my interface (Sonic Port) is better. There is also a noise slider in Guitar Amp to reduce the noise you might experience.

    Is using your own amp necesarry?

    Yeah, the interface is the main problem. I plug my guitar directly into irig anytime I've used it except for today. I find that it gets noisy even though the signal is low (noise gate is also on). When I raise the volume up in GarageBand, the sound is way too noisy and muddy. Can't really appreciate the fx at this point if I wanted to use any. Recording Headphones out sort of helped out.

    I did some more tinkering. I recorded headphones out into sunvox and got some decent improvements from it. I guess this is what I'll be doing if I want to record guitar, it's just a bit inconvenient.

    If you already have a Camera Connection Kit (USB to 30-pin or Lightning connector), another cheap option is a RockSmith USB guitar cable. They are available seperately from the RockSmith game and produce less noise than interfaces that use the headphone jack.

    @somuchdirt74 try plugging directly in and turning the ipad headphone level down as low as you can get it (and still hear what you're doing). It helps a lot with the crosstalk. You might also trying plugging the ipad into your amp and your headphones into your amp's headphone out so that you can turn the level up in your ears while keeping the level coming out of your ipad at the bare minimum.
