Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.
This looks like really nice hardware for "tape loops"...
The price is too high, and doesn't do anything my iPad mini can't do... but looks desirable... Basically, a digitakt made for ambient hipsters.

An iPad with audio interface and Koala would offer a lot more.
Still. I can the attraction of dedicated hardware.
The T1 is a one off classic and I’m currently disappointed by the S4 release info, grrrrr this has to be more special than just ‘this’ 🫤- I’m wondering about how it might work as a class compliant audio interface - ‘Moreover, it can function as an audio interface when you require a simplified setup. You can also expand the number of inputs and outputs by connecting a class-compliant external USB interface.’ - mmmm i'm fantasising about what my ipad might make of it 🤓
I really dislike announcements that are 90% marketing gibberish and 10% product information. You want me to preorder for 900 quid? How about a spec sheet.
I think the asynchronous looper by @Froggo_Lab will do everything this can... ON YOUR PHONE!
Yes that app is amazing. I was in the first beta and it’s capable of some crazy stuff.
Whew $899. It looks cool and I’m sure it is cool but it’s hard for me to justify that when my iPad can do so much more and I already own it lol. If I had the extra money laying around I’d probably jump on it though.
What app is that? I have a hardware asynchronous looper, (the Soma labs Cosmos) and it’s great. I didn’t realise there was an app like it?
ASync Sampler. Follow @Froggo_Lab on Twitter/IG for updates. The beta build is down for now while he’s implementing some changes (AUV3 and such) but it’s great for turning samples into crazy noises and drones. Should be back soon!
Oo. I shall have to stay tuned for that one, sounds interesting. I don’t do Twitter, but I’m guessing you or someone might just mention it here when it’s cooked.
Why of course. I think it’ll end up being a pretty big deal for us experimentalists. I’ll keep ya posted
That Torso s4 is good looking.
@sevenape I'm now looking forward to the asynchronous looper app, thanks for bring it up.
Tell me more, please.
Do you have one? Been on my lust list since it came out but currently in pare down mode. Once I've cut closer to the bone and raised some spare capital, that is near top of my list. Been watching reverb resale prices tick down over the past year and it's into mid $400 range for a like new used one and I'm looking for sub $400 before I pull the trigger.
It's a three-track sampler looper with effects and loads of modulation options.

Like FieldScaper?
feels different to fieldscaper. More like a synth with LFOs and stuff, but the sound generators are samples. You can load in single cycle wave forms or drum loops or whatever.... More like 3 tracks of koala sampler or 3 instances of gauss, but with LFOs to control effects and attack and decay, etc
maybe the 'manual' (it's a WIP) will explain more...
I had suuuuch bad GAS for a T1 at the beginning of the year then I got to borrow one. It was a solid, delightful piece of kit. It can get very complex, very quickly and needs learning like an instrument (unless it's just variations of rhythms and random happy accidents you want) - there is now a new 230 page manual! The more I used it the more I realised I had so many bases already amazingly covered with external controllers and sequencing apps on the iPad - we are truly spoilt!
If I'd never had an iPad as a sequencing hub for my external gear I would have rushed out to buy one. When I gave it back I wasn't heart broken but using the T1 renewed my wonder at what we already have in the IOS ecosystem.
Yes I still want one but I want lots of other things too! 20% off tomorrow on the Torso Store!
Thanks, very helpful synopsis. When I have the money and the space I will do a serious evaluation of the options. I'd be getting it to replace a Beatstep and what I find most appealing that is difficult to duplicate in ios is CV to a hardware device. I haven't surveyed the current landscape to see how else I might go about that. I know there are apps and Expert Sleepers, and whatnot, but hardware is just so much easier for some things.
Ooo @kidslow I’ve not done the expert sleepers/dc coupled route (too modular for me) but plug this to a midi thru on any device (or a usb midi adaptor) connected to your iPad via usb hub >

You won’t regret it!
(actually after I wrote this I was thinking how easy and fun my life would have been if I'd originally just been able to connect a T1 to my ipad usb hub - you've reignited my T1 lust )
Just saw this but definitely check out the devs IG linked above. It’s a pretty unique (to iOS) sample mangler.
Thanks. Definitely looks more accessible than FieldScaper.
For sure. Fieldscaper is pretty accessible for Igor’s standards lol but ASync is way easier to use overall. And offers a lot of good sound mangling ability. Though maybe not quite as extreme as Fieldscaper is.
Interesting but just one more device to contend with. If it had MIDI out/thru, would be a lot more appealing.
