Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Baby Audio Transit for iOS is out

Baby Audio Transit has just been released for iOS

Baby Audio just released Transit for iOS, the plugin they developed with Andrew Huang. It’s available for both iPad and iPhone and is priced round $20 on intro sale - I don’t know how long that will last. It’s very cool, even if it would benefit from some features like being able to enter numerical values on certain knobs like the pitch shift, which can be hard to dial in accurately. I like the zoom view, where everything is lovely and big and easy to read. Here it is doing a gorgeous filtered and bitcrushed shifting delay on Virsyn Tera Pro (using the BrainZ IAP), with midi coming from Piano Motifs by Fernando Morales.

I will highly likely do a detailed spoken walkthrough on this on my YouTube channel some time in the next few days. It’s not just for transitions or EDM or whatever, as you can see and hear here: very definitely of interest to people like myself who are more into experimental music. For AUM users in particular, it has some features that make it super useful.

This is an unlisted vid, as it is just a quick sound demo I haven’t made it public

This plugin kills static mixes!
We teamed up with Andrew Huang to create Transit: A multi-FX plugin that'll give your mix transitions super powers. Use it for build-ups, drops, motion effects, risers and sweeps - and keep your listeners constantly engaged.
An Easier Way To Create Better Transitions:
Transit hosts 18 powerful effect-modules, freely loadable across 7 slots. All effect parameters can be linked to a global Macro Control, which you automate to create complex FX transitions with one knob movement.
A Creative Playground:
The 18 effect modules in Transit are purpose-designed for transition duties. You get classic modulation effects, distortion and degradation options, motion FX, reverb, delay, two filter types - and even a synth oscillator and noise generator for adding risers and sweeps to your transitions.
The Motion Sequencer:
Switch from Macro Mode to Sequencer Mode to program and trigger DAW-sync'ed transitions with the click of a button. Each transition will start exactly at the next bar. This is ideal for live use. Or for writing perfectly timed automations into your mix session without entering the automation lanes.
What's new in the iOS version:

  • Play View: A view that lets you trigger and control transitions without the visual clutter.
  • Ability to zoom in on individual modules for increased precision.
  • Easy-export your desktop presets to iOS by hitting the "E" key in your desktop version (v1.2 or later) and following the instructions.
    TL;DR

  • The ultimate plugin for creating complex, hand-raising, and jaw-dropping FX transitions with one knob movement

  • Perfect for building excitement between song parts and adding little moments of ear candy to your productions
  • Can be controlled with a single Macro Knob or a Motion Sequencer that triggers DAW-sync'ed automations at the click of a button
  • Engage "Sequencer Loop" mode to use Transit as an LFO tool for constant FX movements across entire tracks
  • A creative playground, suitable for both studio and live use

  • Oh, yes...

  • instabuy, almost bought it for desktop when released earlier this year.

It’s very tasty indeed. Overall, I really like what I’ve seen of it so far, and they have really made an effort to get it working ok for iOS. In the full view, some of the little dots which are used to connect a given parameter to the transit knob or sequencer can be a little fiddly, but they added a zoom button to each fx slot (that little magnifying glass on the bottom right of each fx) which make it easy to press those things with fingers. Those little magnifying glasses are your friend for sure!

Is this a multi fx with automation? Lol. I’m used to reading swathes of text in the app description that don’t actually say what something is now so I wasn’t sure. Almost up there with watching YouTube videos of apps where no matter which point I skip to in the video I can just hear a man talking.

Yeah - tons of reviews etc online as it has already been out on desktop for a while, eg: https://musictech.com/reviews/plug-ins/baby-audio-transit-review/

Had a quick Mashup in BAM with Transit. It’s fun.

If you midi learn the Big T knob of Transit inside BAM depending on the patch and on off settings BAM just goes crazy and learns everything it’s controlling being a multi effect so be careful!

It seems to still have some bugs. Most noticeable is that the first 3 fx slots are not being randomized properly - their parameters are changing but the fx type is not being randomized as happens with the other fx slots. Hopefully that will get ironed out soon.

Many attempts have been made making a good multi-effect and although some are good you tend to forget them pretty soon. With this one I don’t think that will be the case. Only time will tell, but, I think this one has the right ingredients to make it last.

    PDF Manual

Edit: It seem to be missing a bunch of icons (reading the manual) on the top row, like preset handling. @Gavinski are you in contact with them or(and) should I report it to them?

Edit2: I did report it to them, sorry about the unnecessary callout to you.😔😊

  • I just bought a 2nd hand Midi Fighter Twister and am very much enjoying knob twisting with the MFT connected to params in plug ins on desktop . Possibly a dumb question but would I be able to assign my MFT knobs to parameters in this (on iOS)? Does it have midi learn?

Not sure whether it has midi learn, but you can assign the auv3 parameters so just use it in a host like aum and that won't be a problem.

I think it should have but that icon is missing (see my edited comment above yours)

I prefer other ppl report as I think they need to get community feedback. You can @tristan from baby audio here maybe, he's been active here recently. Yeah it doesn't seem to have any way to save your own presets in app, which is a pity. I don't mind too much as I often just use AUM's menu, but I know that will annoy some and it really is something that every app would have. Good to mention any bugs / missing features you find so that people can make an educated decision about purchases etc and so that baby audio can prioritise improvements and fixes

Yeah I did write to them. There are other functions missing from the top bar as well (quick guide, midi learn etc.) I guess some were intended to be replaced by that side bar as that one is not present in the desktop version (I think)

  • Ok cool, cheers fellas @Gavinski @Pxlhg

  • I was saving fir that one. Finally out.

  • First impression : you don’t need a magnifiying glass to change presets like BA-1 😆

I've been playing with it on desktop for a couple weeks and it's good fun and works great as a multi-effect unit for much more than just transitions. Even has OTT built-in which is great.
If you apply in small doses, it works really well for saturation/distortion swells. Here's a little vid of me using it like that (I automated after):

That’s not a bug @Gavinski - you just need to tap the lock icon and enable those FX for randomization. Please can you edit your post as that might put people off and this is an app launch thread. What are the other bugs?

But the top 3 slot should be 'unlocked' when initing (double tap on the eraser) a preset.
The top 3 slots are 'locked' by default when loading a new instance...

I actually asked them about this in the desktop version and they chose to keep it this way. I think they want to show that you can do partial randomization maybe.

Could be, there's some 'design choices' in the plug-in (both effects and the way the UI works) that me and my brain don't fully agree with but in the end it's their decisions that make the cut...

...at least we got the 'magnifying glass' on iOS because without it the whole plug-in would be a total pita to operate on an iPad with near impossible to accurately touch super microscopic touch zones :sunglasses:
