Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • You know I totally forgot about this. I’m planning on getting a 404 soon and am looking at a synth to pair with it, and having this app (and the 404s ability to act as an interface) would make for a killer triple thread. Thanks for bringing this back to my attention.

How do you like the new Circuit? Seems like the synth engine sounds excellent. I’m a huge fan of Novation.

You are welcome  It is perfectly possible to use a controller other than a Midimix or an LCXL. The Midi mappings are mostly the same as for the circuit itself. I have listed all mappings for the Midimix and the LCXL here. You can use either version and just set up the mapping in your controler accordingly.

I also like Novation products a lot, they are very well designed and very intuitive. The tracks was a big step ahead in my opinion. (I bought a used original again after selling it a few years ago and was amazed at how vintage and limited it feels after getting used to the tracks). It's my absolute favorite device and I always end up with something creative and useful.

The sound doesn't have a particularly "analog" feel to my ears, but the good effects make up for it.
What I really appreciate is the large number of modulators. At first I thought it was just a marketing gimmick, but it's incredible how versatile and crazy the sounds are that you can create with it.

Thanks :) I’ve always been interested in getting a Circuit. The Mono Station seemed really great too. I’d love to have it eventually as well.

One question, does the Circuit send audio over usb? Or is it midi only?

does not have audio over USB, and Novation told it's not possible to add via future firmware updates.

anyway, it's my to-go machine to pair with iPad.
fits any backpack, and i could play a gig with just iPad & Circuit Tracks.

Thanks :) I could always run the audio through the 404 but usb audio helps.

  • Short update: I designed an overlay for the LaunchControl XL that can be used with NC Editor.
It's super productive to have the LCXL ready for basic parameter editing while you have the screen for other parameters!

You can purchase a professional overlay from a production partner or just get a DIY template.
(Please visit the deepsounds store for more instructions)

Please note that the templates are not well tested yet as I do not own a cutting plotter. If anyone has a cutting plotter available and would like to help improve the template, Please get in touch!

  • Uhh would love to see that setup in action.
Amy thoughts about posting a live performance with subtitles of the proccess or something similar soon?

Guess it's time to pull out the old circuit again.

Right? I sold mine because I couldn't find my flow with it. I had every editor. I seem to remember some kid on YouTube produced an outstanding guide for the Novation editor and I still couldn't get into it, despite being so helpful. More here if anyone is interested.

    Time to buy another one.

Yeah, I should really do a video about the editor. I'm thinking about how I could generate more reach and a video would be the obvious thing. (Even more so for the brand new soundpack I just released ;) ;), really, who buys a soundpack without listening to it.)

But I've been shying away from it for weeks. Videos are pretty new to me, I don't have any decent equipment and no idea about video editing... so it's going to be a steep learning curve. And then suddenly there are tons of things that are much more important... :-)

But hey, maybe your message gives me the push I need

  • @ashh Ya man. I like the thing. It’s super immediate. I like the limitations, sorta. I’ll for sure check it out when time permits. Cheers.

A video on the editor would be great! (It doesn’t have to be a state of the art video, either :) )

  • Bought it straigt away :) BUT is TouchOSC MKI compatible?

No, unfortunately not. It wouldn't be possible to implement all the features in MK1. I wrote a short blog post on that topic back in November, but I now also added a note to the product description to clarify it.

I can really recommend the new version, though. It is much more powerful and versatile. There is also a super active and friendly community on fb and discord sharing their knowledge.

Anyway, if that is not for you just contact me via the store and I'll refund your money.

Thanks for the clarification. No need for refund I will update my TouchOsc as I reckon the Circuit Og and Tracks community really needed such a script. Thanks

This is outstanding, and sorely needed. I downloaded the TouchOSC demo on Windows and the demo script but I can't get it to change anything. I have connected the ports to MIDI in TouchOSC and tested it on Components - it works there. I'm sure it's a dumb setting I'm missing though, can you suggest what it might be?

Edit: oh. Found the reason - the midi channels are hardcoded to 1 & 2...

  • As @BoxOfSnoo correctly pointed out, the synths' midi channels were hardcoded. I really messed that up: At first I totally missed that the channels are adjustable and when I discovered the flaw, I decided that no one would notice (mainly because I wasn't to keen on a code replacement orgy :# ). But well... you did

    So here's a

    Feature update!

On the patch page there is now a midi channel display for the current synth:

Clicking/Tapping the display will open a channel dialog, were you can set the synths' midi channels:

(I would have liked to implement this automatically, but I could not find out the corresponding request :/ ).

    Parameter reset

A rather subtle feature, but I was really missing that one in my workflow:
Each parameter can now be reset to the value of the original patch by holding down the corresponding label for half a second. You can now play around with parameters without having to reload the whole patch (thus overwriting other changes you may actually like) if you messed it up.

For all matrix-like parameter sets (modulator and macro destinations) you'll have to simultaneously hold down the header labels. Here is an example:

    • Pressing and holding the "1 Oscillator" label for 500ms will reset Macro 1.
    • To reset End of destination B, press "B" and "END" at the same time.

Both features are now included in both the main version and the demo

I also updated the manual. Enjoy!

  • AMAZING! Thank you! This thing is kind of a masterpiece...

I've been trying the desktop demo and it's very well done indeed. Can the overall Circuit filter knob be adjusted for resonance anywhere?

Not in the Editor (I don't think it fits in the scope) . But: I'm in the middle of developing a 2nd app that will cover more of the performance aspects of the Circuit and it will definitely be in there. So have a little patience

Well, well, just half a year later and here we go :)
I have just released another TouchOSC app called NC Companion which allows you to control almost all parameters of the Novation Circuits - including the global filter resonance! Yay!
There are many more features in the app, I started a new discussion about it here:

The app and a demo are available in the deepsounds store:

Bought the new app, and it seems to work really well with my original Circuit. It’s very easy to change between your editor and your new app in Touchosc, too. Thanks very much indeed.
