Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Looks like its time for a new iPad

Ok. Still using my ipad mini 2 for music (and other entertainment/email proposed) but with the demise of the BBC iplayer app i guess it's time for something more recent. I like the mini form factor and i quite like the idea of buying 2nd hand if possible. So i had been thinking about a Mini 5th generation as a possible contender, the only problem with it is the 5th generation is being a 4 year old device. The 6th generation doesn't have a headphone sockets which might be a problem for me - i assume i would need some docking station to handle USB MIDI controllers and power as well as wired output.

Any thoughts on ipads in 2023 for music production? Wait to see what happens with any announcement of a 7th generation? Go for a "standard" iPad, or is it really no point considering anything less than the Pros for music these days? Been a while since I've had to think about this :-)

  • Start here with Apple's refurbished iPads for a better deal and a guarantee of a new working battery:

And get the best iPad you can for the money since you probably want to be able to use it for at least 5 years or more.

  • For performing with a band, I have (and love) the 9th gen "standard" iPad. It has the Lightning connector (so I can use the Korg PlugKey) and an old-fashioned headphone jack too. Plenty of processing power for instrument apps, but I have never done any music production so I can't speak to that.
