Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Please recommend me a Clip launching App with unlimited sample slots 😎

edited October 2023 in App Tips and Tricks

Hi there,
I‘m in the process to build a DJ set with 256 4bar stems which I produced with my Digitakt-Circuit combo. Now I tried some apps for firing up those Loops like GR-16, Launchpad and Koala but they have limitations regarding the enormous amount of sample slots I would need. Would Loopy Pro be capable for this task or has anyone experiences with other apps and can recommend one which I haven‘t thought of?
Cheers

  • I think Loopy Pro would easily be your best bet hosted in AUM - you can import as many state saved Loopy Pro set ups as you like with any variety of effects to your screen using ‘+import’.

  • Loopy Pro should work for this.

I am not sure why @robosardine suggrsted hosting it in AUM. You could do it in loopy pro without needing AUM.

Because you can quickly mix and match a variety of Loopy Pro’s at the same time and as an option give them a specific selection of effects. Lane one might be drum clips/loops, lane 2 might be bass etc. You can then quickly introduce any other Loopy Pro ready with or without effects from your saved collection by hitting ‘import’ whilst fading out/deleting/cross fading etc.

  • Thank you both! So Loopy Pro it is then… I‘ll check it out!

  • ZenBeats if you want it already built - & don’t mind running left to right rather than top to bottom in Clip Launch view

Just as you can in AUM. Loopy standalone is an AU host and can load any AUv3. Just as Drambo standalone can load Drambo as an AU.

  • That being said, it isn’t obvious to me that OP’s use-case would require loopy as an AU. Loopy standalone might suit their use-case fine.

I was thinking the same. It’s easy to add AU fx per clip color if that’s what’s needed. I understand that if you’re all-in on AUM and just want to add clip launching, then hosting Loopy in AUM makes sense. Otherwise keep it simple and do it all in one place. Better for project saving too.

    Not regarding question

but Euclidean drum ipad. With an mpe synth and an amen break xequence pads.

Sampler ipad ( for jams ) probably just mononokes. Noinput mixer would have been cool.

Synth ipad ( will add loopys )

Same template as using as a midi daw. No re-routing.

Its 12 drums controlled by a faderfox pc12 ( ec4 for effects ) basses via launchpad and mpe synth. Solo via screen. Solo bus via faderfox pc12.

Mononoke via ec4 and record via screen.

Launchpad customs on different midi channels and tracks set to midi always and will add multi/out loopy. Control synths/fx via ec4. Plus add some skiiid.

Probably a background aum with bleass voices ( and a korg microkey ) with loopy and multiout to fx.

Yes I get that - but Loopy Pro won’t allow you to import a Loopy Pro with effects already attached and ready to go as in AUM’s ‘import’ feature (unless I’m mistaken) is what I was getting at. This to me is invaluable benefit of doing it that way.

I don't understand what you are saying.

Loopy Pro can load the exact same Loopy Pro instances that AUM or any other AU host can.

Are you talking about the ability to import a lane of loopy pro and effects chain on the fly?

True, that Loopy Pro doesn't have lane importing but I am not sire how that is relevant to OP's question.

Yes that’s what I’ve been saying - it’s relevant I think because the OP is building a DJ set and DJ sets incorporate a variety of effects - this way makes it easier to produce a flexible scenario that you know that you can readily introduce and manipulate - I mean why not use the option?

@robosardine - with that volume of samples using Loopy as an AU could quickly run into memory difficulties. Yes, Loopy uses disk streaming, but anything in use will take up some ram. Crashes are likely if you ask me. But I could be wrong.

AUM channel import is useful, but Loopy Pro has session templates, which I might argue are at least as powerful. ymmv of course. 😎✌🏼

@osKar - I think you want to be sure to turn off "Use Save Points" in Loopy Pro's settings if you're working with a large amount of files! You could run into some serious storage issues if not. If you do use Save Points then it's important to manage them manually.

  • Another plus for Loopy is session transitions. Loopy has some nice features for transitioning from one session to another. AUM can load sessions in response to MIDI messages, but I feel the feature set is richer in Loopy.

Btw, it is a pretty simple matter to set up effect chains on buses and swap loopy au instances on the fly and send the loopy AU outputs through different effect chains if OP decides to use AU instances to load loop sets.

  • @wim thanks I'll look into it. Hopefully the 7days trial will be enough for experimentations. I'm not yet sure if I unlock the app for 35€ now. Maybe later when my bank account is in a better state ;-)

Glitch + Perforator or Glitch + Looperator + Turnado, haha! Now I want to listen to this madness! 🤩

ah I haven‘t checked that one out yet - thanks!
what about that new Sketch app from ProTools? anyone got some experience with that?

The annoyance with Zenbeats is lack of a folder structure in the sample browser. Yes, you can dump loads of folder-structured samples into Zenbeats sample folder using the files app, but the files display as a flat list. You can filter by folder and file names, but that's not as nice to me as seeing the structure there.
