Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Zoom u-44 midi
Hi. Can anyone confirm that I can use the zoom u-44 to send midi from my iPad to a hardware synth and simultaneously route audio from the iPad to a mixer? Also can I use the midi-in on the zoom to receive midi into the iPad?
I’ve done a lot of searching and can’t seem to find much info on the midi capabilities at all. Thanks!

I have the U24 which is the 2 input version of the 44 and you can most definitely route audio and midi in and out of the iPad.
I’ve done this controlling external hardware synths with my iPad and the u24 has worked flawlessly for me with my iPad Air 4 (usb-c).
I preciously used the U24 with my old iPad and also iPhone with the CCK with no issues.
Fantastic. Thank you.
The real issue I recall is mono monitoring on the audio side
Besides that I love it to use with midi controllers and harware sound sources
In what way is it limited to mono monitoring?
Sorry. I meant when using input 1 and 2 and using the headphone out. It outputs ok to the ipad
Are you talking about direct monitoring or monitoring audio from the iPad?
Direct monitoring
WOW!! I have the Zoom U-44, and I didn't realize it can send both Audio and MIDI to /from the iPad [!?!?!?!?] - I bought a Uni brand USB Hub; so I can do this very thing. That is send both audio from the audio interface (right now the Zoom U-44), and MIDI from my Morningstar MIDI controller - to the iPad.
Previously I had an Xtone - but the Xtone foot switches will ONLY send a MIDI signal on 'release' of the foot switch, which frustrated me. I expect the MIDI message to be sent when I press down on the foot switch.
QUESTION: What about powering the iPad? Part of what I get with my Uni USB Hub is that I'm also powering the iPad. This is a must have for me, because sometimes I forget to fully charge my iPad before a performance.
