Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Apple USB C to lightning dongle with lightning camera kit

edited September 2023 in Hardware

I got a new iPad Pro with a USB C connector. I already own the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter from my old iPad. As anybody tried to use it with the USB-C to Lightning Adapter ?

It would be cheaper than buying the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

Here’s the dongle hell I am talking about. Anybody tried it ?

  • What are you connecting to your iPad with this dongle? Now that you have a USB-C iPad, you may be able to plug it in directly, without any dongles.

  • I would get a USB-C hub/dongle with a USB-C PD port to plug-in the charger…
If simultaneous charging is not needed a simple USB-C to USB-A cable/adapter should be enough.

USB A HD, mouse, hub, midi controller

Not sure I have much faith in third party USB-C PD. Many people around here have killed their iPad using them. I would rather stick to Apple's.

I count a few unlucky individuals at MAX, that's hardly 'many'?!

I've personally had ZERO issues with USB-C PD when using quality cables.
The 7-in1 LinQ 'dongle' I use has so far been super stable in everyday use.
(Believe me, if sh*t breaks for me I get VOCAL about it).

Considering the USB-C -> Lightning female adapter is NOT designed for charging using it with the CCK3 and feeding it with +20W could even create more havoc...

USB-C has been around long enough and getting quality products (stay away from the super cheap crap) things should work just fine.

If this was a 'major problem/issue' there would be thousands upon thousands of articles written about it with a following class action lawsuits demanding refunds from Apple!

The likely cause of the problems here is NOT USB-C PD by definition but the cheaper chargers that have been used.

I'd still get a quality USB-C Hub/Dongle in favor of an 'Apple Dongle' with one USB-A Port...
...and if I was really paranoid an Apple Charger...

But the choice is naturally up to you.

    Cheers!

If you’re plugging in a bunch of stuff, then a USB-C hub with PD is probably the way to go.

One thing to bear in mind with your two-dongle idea is that the USB-C-to-Lightning adapter may be USB2.0 (Maybe not, but check first). That would limit the amount of stuff you can connect to the USB-A hub I’m assuming you will attach to your dongle chain.
