Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

There’s a complete 9-page manual within the app settings, as well as short (2-3min) tutorial videos for each type of node and/or feature. All tutorial video links also within the app settings.

I’ve found the app very intuitive though. Haven’t even needed to watch the videos, but I’m glad they’re there for clarity. I think I only referenced the manual once. It’s great that you don’t have to sit through an hour-long tutorial video. You can go straight to the topic you’re interested in getting more clarity on.

You can already watch all the tutorials here:

These videos are just what I needed to see. Thank you.

Will there be an option to change the layout to squares?
I really would prefer more manly squares then those circly circles.
    😎

I’m old enough to remember when web designers were excited to finally be able to put rounded corners on a square. It was a big deal!

I’m old enough to remember when graphic designers were excited to get a sharp enough pair of scissors to cut out perfect round corners on paper before their designs were photographed.

I'm old enough to remember when they put circles INSIDE of squares and called them floppy disks.
    Crazy times ... 🎅🏼

Remember when you'd backup onto a cassette tape with the very early home computers?

We used to have a Tandy TRS-80 (a very early home computer) in our home, then we later had a Morrow Micro Decision in the early 80's (with floppy drives).

Reminds me of a video I saw a while back. It was an interview with a bunch of Gen alpha/Z kids and none of them knew the “save” icon was based on a real thing (floppy disk) lol. It was blowing their minds.

  • After watching the tutorial videos I think this will be an awesome fit for Loopy Pro midi duties. It has a great simplicity to it and looks very well designed for the touch interface.

So @ElliottGarage if you’re listening, please consider adding midi export if it’s not already on the roadmap 🙏

Also something like these handles that xequence has for safely shifting around piano roll notes would be amazing:

  • Thanks for the tutorial videos - it seems very intuitive and well designed. Really looking forward to the release!

  • @ElliottGarage Does EG nodes have a master channel where you can use plugins? and is there an audio in for e.g. external gear?

While watching tutorials it looks freaking well designed, feels like there's 0 learning curve which is crazy. And ofcourse I have few questions.
    1. Is it possible to add automation source by tapping on certain knob for menu diving haters?
    2. Which options we have for keybord recording ? Can it do something like auto-grow rec like Drambo?
    3. Any suggestions for a good TV series to pass the time until January 8th?

Silo, Slow Horses, and the latest Fargo are all good fun.

Its an excellent interface. What about song composition? Seems like a very constrained workflow though . Is there a way to take all those small pieces and glue together separate songs? Something even as simple as how elastic melody works?,, meaning like connecting pattern sequences into songs.

Fargo is excellent. Super excited for season 5!

I just finished season 3 of Slow Horses. One of the best episodic TV shows ever, IMO. Be sure to start at the beginning with season 1.

@lazyass Tapping your selected knob for automation has been added tap the knob and it shows up inside the slider or X Y pad so easy no more menu diving. AUM needs this ! Also midi FX LFO,s can now be blinded with CC so basically it’s bees knees! for routing and automation.

Can’t comment on the keyboard recording.

Is there a reason I can’t see the tutorials? Private videos, or because I’m in the UK? I was able to see the one on Rhythm Nodes, possibly because it was directly linked to the video?

This does look like a brilliant app, so would be great to see more on it!

  • Yes, sorry they're set to private now (BTW I've added some new features and the video should be updated too) ... a complete app walkthrough will be posted on 2 of January. More info to come :)

This is what I came here to ask 👍

  • That would be great to know - along with, is there a song mode in EG nodes?

I'll second that Silo suggestion. I watched the first episode some time ago and was a bit annoyed at the pace, so I didn't watch the series. Then recently I got a second chance to watch it... and oh, boy. It really got its hooks in me. This show is incredible.

  • Can we see the manual outside of the app? I'm tired of buying apps trying to decide if they're for me, and the manual is pretty much my go-to when figuring out if new gear will work for me.

Yep, Song Mode would be a Natural, if it is not already there.. Ableton file export (MiDi and Audio)… Have not seen Auv3 Multi output… But a whole lot is there to chew on for Ver 1..

    Lunch is served…

    Nice.. 1 more week..

  • This looks like a fun DAWless way to make music. I picked up Drambo the first time it went on sale and it just doesn't click with me. This seems more up my alley. I don't need it, but I might have to have it.

I keep asking about this but still no response from @ElliottGarage? If the manual exists in-app as has been said by others but not as a PDF or anything else, maybe post some screenshots of the manual in app? If it’s only 9 pages long, that surely should be possible?

The manual is in pdf, but I need to finish some parts. Tomorrow a full app walkthrough will be online and it will be even more detailed by the way.

Thanks for responding @ElliottGarage, appreciate it. The thing is, with a manual, you can quickly jump to find the information you want and work out whether the app has the features which would make it useful to you. With a video, you have to watch the whole thing in the hope that it will cover what you want to know. Still, I’ll certainly watch the video as i like what I’ve seen of the app so far! Cheers.

  • No problem, and I will share the video as soon as it will be ready :)
Anyway from my perspective, the video is more accurate to understand the app workflow...since the app is really focused on giving users a great UX more than a list of features
