Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • @ElliottGarage thanks for all responds. Mb a feature request or just thoughts to think about:
There is some similar style of apps, like drambo also mentioned above. So question is about audio through track. Global like. For vocals or guitars. Is it hard to invent? Something like in SonicWave SmplTrek. TY!

This looks interesting, something Sand could have been. I like the compact overview.

What do you mean with "Sand could have been"? What do you see there what Sand does not do?
No bashing, i'm really interested in your opinion.
Because the interface of Sand looks a lot cleaner. And Sand is incredible for building and testing patterns/loops.
Of course, I am also curious what EG Nodes brings to the table.

I'll not compare Sand and EG Nodes...EG Nodes is more focused on different MIDI generators and sequencing nodes, each with its peculiarities. Can also be used to control other apps via MIDI out, or create internal MIDI routing.
I think they can be complementary

Agreed. I don’t really seem them as very comparable. At least not for my used. Both are great apps. Nodes is very unique though in it’s approach though, and I think anyone into grooveboxes should grab it when it’s out.

who else wants 'Split view'? :D

Im curious what this functionality would be? Like routing audio channels? Or synchronization of each node to a aum channel? Or something else?

  • edited December 2023

Split View would be cool to use EG Nodes to sequence AUM, but it’s a bit like reinventing the wheel really when 90 percentage of the same can be achieved inside EG Nodes without using AUM which has IAA and a few other extras at the present time.

I ran a session with 4 nodes into AUM and it works a treat by switching or through Stage Manager.

But I prefer to stay locked in one or the other for now.

Primarily split-view is used for running two apps side by side to reduce the need of switching between apps.

  • does it allow for the sidechaining capabilities of FX apps between nodes?

  • edited December 2023

A sign of a good host app is having finished projects in the bank that makes you keep come back for more😀

You mean like a proper DAW???

BAM is not a proper DAW, but certainly allows that.

Just asking a question…BAM was just released , I think? I don’t know it ; I’ll check it out (and with Node to node I think it’s possible)

yeah, BAM was released early november.
and there is also proper desktop version – that's why i love it.

  • Another Pre Release Early Beta look at EG Nodes. First real go I had at putting something together a week or 2 after being on the beta. Have @ElliottGarage permission to share.

  • EG Nodes dev update —>AU3 MIDI FX & INTERNAL ROUTING

  • This looks really nice but I’m wary of getting it after my horrible experience with EG Pulse which I deleted. Sorry to be negative, I know a lot of people like Pulse but I felt burned by the hype of pre-ordering it (which I no longer fall for) only to find out that it’s really not a good drum machine at all as the rhythmic subdivisions don’t allow for triplet or shuffle rhythms which should be easy for any drum machine to do. The dev promised this would be fixed but it never was. It might be a great sampler but it leaves much to be desired as a drum machine. Carry on.

oh, speaking of triplets... are those available in EG Nodes? I think someone mentioned also time signatures "per node"?

by the way, @ElliottGarage ping me in case you still need beta testers (sent you an email last week, but not sure it reached you)

I'm sorry the app didn't fit your expectations, anyway Shuffle is there. About triplets there are some way of doing them, like using 1/12 snap (I probably should add 1/24) or set 3 based length for a sound since each sound can be sequenced with different steps length. Honestly I don't remember much complain abot that, that's the reason why I focused on more popular demands; anyway I understand that you may miss the 'canonic' way of using triplets and each user may have its workflow and habits.
The main request I got about EG Pulse was to make the beat longer (BTW I'll work on an 2.0 version bringing the EG Nodes improved sequencing engine).

@vdk_john EG Nodes will include proper 'ratchet' for the rhythm node to make triplets in the old fashioned way. You can also have separate swing/shuffle, steps length and speed rate/division for each node.
Beta is closed, and I'll announce the preorder soon :)

Pretty Nice... seems AUM has some competition, here..

Scenes, Snapshots, Global/Key Scale? Can you drag and drop/import Midi into the PianoRoll, Automation?

    Thanks.
    Looking forward...

I don’t see if replacing AUM for me personally but the app itself is excellent. I’ve been on the Beta for a while and it’s extremely powerful and only getting better.

That’s a good comparison though. It’s like if BAM and AUM has a baby.

  • Can anyone tell me if Nodes will record and playback MPE? I'm holding off being excited until I find out...

Definitely. I think people will really like this one. I’ve been spending a ton of time with it. It has some really unique things going for it.

  • No one seems interested to reply to me about recording and playback of MPE midi clips... but what the hell, I'll try again.

Any thoughts on this @ElliottGarage ? Anyone?

Here I am...at the moment MPE is not supported, if you'd like please write me at [email protected] how would you like to use the feature in a host/sequencer app :)

  • Thanks for the reply, I'll email you for sure. 😀

Quickly here though, for other people's benefit, I haven't used the app so I guess I'm just assuming it has the ability to record midi into clips and not just program sequences. If you can't record performances into clips then this is a moot point and I'm sorry for my lack of understanding.

If you CAN record performances then generally I play a Linnstrument or use something like velocity keyboard to perform parts using MPE. Playback of the clips would need to be MPE as well.

Yes you can record from external MIDI into the piano roll node

  • Sweet! I think that actually sums up why I (and others) would need MPE.

Hopefully it's on the roadmap! This app looks great and I'd love to make use of it. ❤️

  • Can we see a demo of the auv3 selection process? This has become a difficult task as im now in the > 400 auv crowd
