Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Ba 1 and dagger are all im using now. Dagger is so easy to dial a bass, and ba 1 has so many presets and sounds for being so simple!

Me too. I was playing it and dropped my iPad on my foot.

If I want something sad enough, the first thing that comes to mind is Electric Vintage. But that can be personal.

  • Kronecker from ice gear... all the sads :(

It has an organic sadness to the sounds, like a forest crying.

Really any synth with tape warble and long dissonant reverbs on. bonus if its a semi random or random tape warble.

  • I haven’t got an answer, but the question immediately made me think of this modern classic:

    Nicely done!

  • The saddest synth is the one collecting virtual dust, long forgotten about. Synths have feelings too you know. 🤣🤣🤣

I agree… for me synths make tones and the tones I find sad come traditionally from the double reeds and bowed strings.
A synth with glides and muted Hi’s can get close to the core elements of these tones. So, a heavily damped filter is a requirement for me. Aim for a sound that seems to be backed by high pressure aching to get out.

But the notes chosen make all the difference and minor scales can guide the pathos effectively.

Specifically it was a Spinal Tap reference, but it came to mind as I think as you do that what notes you play is more important than the sound it produces. I’ll bet that any of the synths mentioned so far can play the jolliest, most upbeat music as well.

That’s the exact synth that popped into my head. Physical Modeling is capable of some very organically sad sounds.
