Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.
iPhone 6 (the thread about the actual phone)
So I've just realized something that's pretty disappointing to me. I've been with my iphone 5 (quite happily) for a while now. I have an upgrade waiting for me for over a year now, so I was going to upgrade. But... This is really awful in my opinion. I really didn't pick up on the fact that the new iPhones will actually have a camera that STICKS OUT off the back off the phone. It's very pronounced and will pretty much gauruntee scratches to the lens if you like to sit it down on it's back (not sure who sites their phone down face down, but I don't). Further, this will mean it won't sit level on the surface you lie it on either. So if you were thinking about sitting that nice new iphone 6+ down and typing on it ipad style! well! it's going to wobble like crazy. What the holy sh!t? For real? And they totally know it... Check out this photo from their website...this image has clearly had the bezel photoshopped out.
Edit; just found an article on zdnet talking about...

So, you think that image is a phoney? Good call.
Yes, I do.
Or maybe they took it at such an angle that it hid the bezel. Either way, disingenuous.
They probably figure most people put them in cases, which would solve that issue quite easily. I could never use an iPhone without a grippy case anyway, they've always been way too slick for me. You don't want your use of ThumbJam to endanger your precious, do you?
I was thinking about going w/o a case for the first time (this will be my third iPhone) until I heard about this design choice (?). I think a case will be needed, specifically to flatten the back. Damn shame.
sticky out camera or not, it's going to be a great music device - especially the iphone 6 plus.
Beautiful as it is, I've never carried my iPhone 5 (or iPad Air) around without a case. I carried an iPod Touch without a case and the scratches it ended up with on the back side marred the look irreversibly. (The other reason I use cases all the time is for those instances when the iPhone slips out of my hand.)
The Jobsian image of carrying around the iPhone in jeans pockets all the time is fine until you lay the thing on its back on surfaces or there happens to be something else in your pocket for some reason.
The protruding lens on the 6 will be obviated by a case (the protrusion is confirmed by numerous press sources).
And, yes, it should be an awesome portable music making device, especially the Plus.

That's the kind of dev talk a fella likes to hear!
I'm a bit curious if it's not again a step back (like the iPad Air). 50% faster GPU but up to 3X more pixels to handle. 25% faster CPU is great but too far away to handle killer synths in multi tasking.... then the RAM. If it is also just 1GB in the 6+ it is not build to create music (in my case at least). I was consider it because of the camera but it annoys me also that it sticks out. The market wants bigger phones but apple seems really to jump without a master plan. For 999€ i better get Komplete 10 ultimate
I always miss a generation anyway so it'll be 6s for me ... If at all ! Not sure if I want a bigger phone that I cant use to text with one hand.
Lens stuck out on every camera I owned up until I got my first iphone. Doesn't bother me at all. I do occasionally lay the phone down flat on a table to tap out beats but it's always squirmed around too much without a case in that scenario anyway.
Taking photos is a primary use case for owning a smart phone for me. If sticking the lens out gets me better pictures, I'm on board.
What the hell were they thinking?
What use is a thinner phone if you have to wrap it in a case that adds thickness and weight again?
I hope they don't fuck up the iPads like that.
I remember the ipad1 was like that too. Unusable without the case.
If you think about it from another point of view, the reason they made it thinner is exactly so you could use it with a case and still have it be an acceptable thickness...
I don't think I've ever seen anyone use an iPhone without a case, as something that gets so much handling it's too expensive an investment not to.
@Cinebient the iPhone 6 will still be pushing less pixels than the current iPad Air, and doing it with a faster processor (besides which that is mostly the job of the GPU anyway). Meaning the performance will be better than Apple's current fastest device, which should be plenty of power for multitasking synths as the iPad Air already does quite well CPU-wise. RAM on the other hand may be the limiting factor.
iPad and iPhone are different things..... the iPad Air indeed fails massive when it comes to multitasking! We will see with the first tear downs if it really ships with limited RAM. Even for gaming it will be important. But as we see it's selling like hot shit again. So they still can sell everything for a high price. Consumers rules the market....
I've never used cases with my iPhone

Remember that the iPhone 5s has a 1.3GHz A7 while the 6 will most likely be a 1.4GHz A8 ... There you'll see a ~25% increase. In comparison the actual iPads are already at 1.4GHz, so The increase will be down to ~15%
Benchmarks I've seen suggest only about a 5% performance gain for the 6 over the 5s. I do some work on circuit design, and this is in line with what I'd expect.

With my developer hat on.... New screen dimensions are a PITA. Graphic design, layout of stuff on the screen, all needs another round of tweaking. No fun. No fun at all.
Interesting... thx. Seems this time it was more a power consumption upgrade. Or maybe finally the time has come to slow down big jumps in performance increase like it's today on PC/Laptops etc.
If the iPhone 6 is anything like my 5th gen iPod touch with its lens sticking out, it's a nonexistent problem. My iPod touch lays flat just fine, and the lens cover doesn't get scratched at all due to it being made of sapphire.
Iphone 6 plus seemingly will have 2gb ram http://www.redmondpie.com/full-iphone-6-specs-allegedly-leaked-ahead-of-announcement/
But most of the leaked specs here are not true....
Never have used a case with my phone. Don't use one with the iPad either. Of course, there's a story about a dog and my ipad chasing it around the room on here. One could argue that tragedy could have been averted by using a case. To that I say; Yeah, you're probably right.
That's actually a pretty sweet little case. Think I'd still prefer the apple one, but for the price, that one looks like it still maintains the nice look of the phone and it would protect the camera tit. Norra bad find.
