Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • Thanks, I did pick up some stuff I wasn't aware off. Our interfaces are not exactly the same which I find weird as it's only one version yet, or are you maybe on a beta version?

If you go into app settings you can chose the default single channel view, or an alternative view. I covered this in my vid btw 😉 😝

There are a few useful things in settings. One I forgot to mention, which Mark's vid reminded me of, is the ability to have those big numbers showing for the channels. Enabling that is an excellent thing to do for sure!

It's a beta version, but the only difference I can see is I had the big numbers turned on. (You can do this from the App settings.) Does anything else look different? I might have missed something.

Yeah that did it, thanks! I couldn't bother to sit an hour+ for this app (sorry!) so I didn't check your video and I jumped through this one as well. I got most parts by myself but there was stuff I had missed.

No I got it sorted, it was in the settings (see above)

No worries! I also tend to personally prefer reading manuals in most cases over watching a vid - but generally not when it comes to Igor manuals!

Oh I saw some quick start video, I think that might have been you actually. Also, it's not very complicated to get started but more so to fine tune stuff. But in the end it's about the sometimes very annoying sound it can make, it's one thing when you do it to yourself but when someone else does...grrbrr!!

Yes haha. I didn't make any quick start vid though so it must have been some other youtuber making those sounds that freaked you out!

Display channel number for the slot; the whole UI logic instantly clicked with me. After that, everything is basic.

I still dislike obscured tab functionality, and out of respect for the developer, I will restrain myself from commenting any more on that matter. Everything else is expected, like every other Igor app. Music experimentation par excellence.

Thanks for sharing this fantastic tutorial! 🤩

  • Another excellent tutorial.

Don’t worry - I think I have made my feelings about that more than clear and things should be better in that regard in the next update. Igor also has a very welcome surprise up his sleeve that I think people will be extremely happy about, Just a little snipnuggedynug™️ for y’all - Stay tuned!! 😜

This video is like a proper tutorial; your deep dives are like blockbuster thrillers of experimentation; you need fresh beverages, popcorn, and a comfy position; entertainment is imminent! 🤩

I'm excited to see that update from Igor.

  • Maybe there's a good reason for this, because of the nature of this app, but would it not make sense to be able to solo each channel, as well as muting it?
I'm probably misunderstanding, and it's probably a dumb question, but I'll be the goon who asks it...

I thought the same, and still do

I lobbied for this on GlitchScaper and Igor added it, so it would be worth asking. The design implications would be more or less the same.

I asked Igor and he said he will think about adding solo buttons in the next update. He made the point that once you have channels interacting a solo button isn't much use. Personally, I would also like to see 'solo' buttons for each of the buses (send 1/2, return 1/2 and mix L/R), so you can hear what's cooking.

Same... But a lot of people will use more simple setups. And anyway, muting 6 channels in the current system is the same as soloing one, it just takes more presses. So there's ultimately no sense in not having a solo button. Unwary users will run into no sound using certain routing systems regardless!

  • Cool, thanks for your input on this @MarkH and @Gavinski . Appreciated as always

I have started to play with MIDI mapping and I already have three different ways of being puzzled. Maybe someone can set me straight before I bug Igor again.

    (1) It appears not all the controls are mappable. Not sure why this would be, but I presume this is a question for Igor. (Missing ones I wanted are the Limit and Overprotection knobs.)

    (2) Some mappable parameters appear in the App MIDI page but not in AUM. For example, FX params 1 and 2.

    (3) My MIDI controllers don't appear in the App MIDI page, so (2) is a problem. (The ones that appear in AUM are mappable successfully from there.) EDIT: The MIDI controllers appear in the standalone app, but only 'Audio Unit Host' appears inside an AUv3 instance. Maybe this is normal.

Does anyone else have these problems?

  • I said Igor would leave out some midi mapping lol

    Multiout is essential.

    It will make app better.

    Wont buy next app.

    No matter how good.

  • If anyone's still watching, I have a few promo codes for the first three people to claim after this message!

  • Yes please! Thx.

  • Yes, please!
