Ah, it's a pity you reinstalled BS - that way you effectively deleted your stored maps :-( Because if you did not reinstalled it, they would reappear again after next update. Reinstalling app == deleting all data which app stored in it's users document space.

    That may not be true.
At least, I remember that gave away some iDevice for some time and deleted all chat tools and such - after I got the device back, I reinstalled those Apps.
And at least one of them - not sure if it was Threema - did just work again, with my credentials and whatever!

Uninstalling an App may not always remove everything!

Well that is pretty alarming, especially in case of Threema 😂 If this happend to me, would never touch that app again cause it is agains very basic point why this app exists 😂

@Pxlhg @espiegel123 @dendy. Thanks guys for your help.

So I was on version 1.01 and couldn't get any sustained notes via the pedal. I updated to 1.02 and it now works perfectly with sustained notes via the pedal. Funny thing is, I too, am experiencing issues with some patches having no volume when changing sounds.

can you be speciffic ? which patches .

Unfortunately, it seems to be quite random. I have tried to find a reproducible case but haven't found one yet. I even screen recorded and tried to repeat the steps in the video.

    what host app ?

also it is happening when switching patches with left - right arrows or with patch browser by tap on patch name ?

Just to be sure - i was reacting on @Sandstorm reporting quiet patches - you have same issue ?

@Sandstorm please answer my questions above too, it may help to nail this bug, thanks.

I've seen you make this statement before and it's wrong, it's not he's first. He made Cream Mobile, also available as VST etc. more than 7 years ago. I don't know where you got the impression he's some kind of newbie.

So just in stand alone today I had no issues changing patches either on the forward and backwards tabs in the app. No silent patches. The same goes for changing patches via my pcr800 no issues.UNTIL...I started to mess about with the control page, xy pad. For no reason it crashed and closed it self down.

The other minor odd thing was one or two patches seem to be doubled up. Patches descent into darkness and jx rhythm. Changing these patches either via the app or controller need to be tapped twice before moving to the next patch.

Will try in AUM and report back.

Ok thanks will try replicate those errors.

Would be also nice if you remember exactly what you was doing when it crashed (whuch control you was tweaking, what modulation was mapped to that comtrol, etc. Any detail may be imporrant).

Also crash log would be helpful

Yeah not a big deal, but I guess I missed those that were added in “1.01”.

To be honest, (as I’m going through these right now in the latest update) a lot of these are already overly complex with all kinds of modulations and such. These are exactly like all of the other “artist” presets IMO.

Don’t get me wrong, I love all the presets, and love hearing what people have dialed in with this amazing synth, but (again, in my opinion) these are far from what I had in mind for “factory presets”.

I mean, I think they just put a bunch of patches in a folder (again, really nice sounds!) and called it the “Butter\Factory preset folder”

I was thinking he should have some BASIC factory presets, for people to have basic starting points to start making their own sounds. You know, like a Bass, Key, Pluck, Lead, Pad, Brass? Of course it’s easy to make these ourselves from the “INIT” starting point, but having a handful of basic patches to start with comes in handy sometimes.

I can see here a dillema for sound designer - it is really hard to put into bank something which one can do literally in 5 - 10 second half sleeping at 3am, half drunk with still smoking joint in mount :-D :-D

One then feels ashamed like "man, this is too simple, everybody can do this in no time, why to save it as patch ???" :-D :-D :-D

If you ask me, i am always creating presets which i personally would immediately use in my music without hesitation, without any advanced re-tweaking. Just finished sound which i see as something with real use case in music. I really doesn't see nothing wrong on using even complex presets (made by somebody else) in own music... even if they are recognisable .. you have always plethora of room to use them in very creative way. It's same like whole sampling business - lot of people sample from official records, and often you can even recognise which record is that, yet if samples are used creatively in context of whole track, there is absolutely nothing wrong about that.

Take complex preset .. . tweak 2-3 parameters ... delete some modulation .. pass it through your own FX chain .. and boom. You have something completely new.

It may sound a bit controversial, but if somebody can't be creative with complex patches, simple patches won't help too.

Of course. That's just my opinion. I may be completely wrong, i have not certificate for truth. Just my five cents.

Have a look at the Recollection artist presets. Created by our very own @gregsmith to be simple starting points.

I agree with this completely, If I create and judge a preset I have just created I might think mmm, not really, so my way of modifying existing complex presets is to do it fast without putting too much thought into it, save it/them and then come back and listen to them a day or two later, you will surprise yourself how good they sound.

  • @dendy the issues I had were in Loopy Pro on an iPad 6 under iPadOS 16.6 (which I mentioned up thread) with two instances of ButterSynth. Tapping on the next patch button sometimes results in a the AU interface being blank for 30 or 40 seconds and the default patch appearing or occasionally the AU crashes before it redraws.

This hasn’t happened for me in AUM. I wonder if it is memory related. It isn’t happening on my iPhone XS in loopy pro.

I’ll try to see if I can screen record it happening.

I don’t see any crash logs for BS in analytics after this happens.

I see, yeah it's a bit like Dendy is saying. We were both helping out with a few of the factory ones. Like, the Clarinot is mine and I think it's as simple as it can get.
    I do get your point.😊
Greg did a bunch with simplicity in mind as mentioned above (Recollection folder). Good luck anyhow.

Am I missing something? There are basic keyword groupings in BS. Or Edward really means basic basics, sounds that no one will ever use. I’m not sure that BS is a good option for sound design beginners.

  • I’m amazed by how hard it is to sell people on this synth. I use it in every track at least once since I got it. The possibilities it offers are absolutely unreal. So easy to dial in a simple one oscillator patch, then build it up from there.

It was frustrating that it didn’t work in Logic for sure but that’s now been solved.

  • You’re right about that, maybe the incredibly clear UI makes people think it’s less mysterious and capable somehow.

I just love the interface more than I could explain, wish every synth was like it. Then I could judge the sound of a synth more without my judgement being clouded by how it looks.

Well there aren't many of the basic sounds like a pure piano or a trumpet which actually could be if someone just took the time to do them, it wont be me - I'm abstract😂 Also those keywords aren't very well implemented, I'm partly to blame for that as I find it boring and hard to fit a sound in to various categories. I disagree on the beginner thing, I think it's very user friendly compared to e.g say Synthmaster (1 and 2).

I did a cover of a Tangerine Dream track “it’s time to leave when everyone starts dancing”, I struggled to get the right sequencer/filter/gate effect I was looking for, especially in Synthmaster 2, then ButterSynth came along and I tried that….success. Here is my m4a cover track, the main bass and sequencer is the mighty BS

But Safari saved it as *.m4a.mp3 which may hint to the problem

  • @dendy @Pxlhg : here is a screen recording showing the issue that I have switching presets. i am just tapping the next preset button. which presets cause trouble is variable. you'll see switching to one preset causes problems a few times and then works fine...and then at the end Accordyon crashes which rarely does.

It seems to only happen when there are two instances. I don't run into this on my iPhone XS . So it may be a memory issue.

Agreed. I don’t use Logic often outside of mastering stems from AUM so that one didn’t really affect me but the synth itself is absolutely fantastic and one of my all time favorites by now. I was in the beta for a long time before it came out and watching it grow was a treat. It does seem like it made a splash but I did expect a bigger splash at first.

  • @dendy

I am not sure if I did so something wrong, but wasn't it possible to have wave table or patch browser open and just select something to test it, and the selection window stood open and you could just try the next sound?

Right now, both selection windows close for me after selecting a sound.

This makes it nearly impossible to choose and test something.
