Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

This may appeal to creators of electronic and dance music on iPad, 3 USB 2.0 ports that will bus power the connected devices if you connect a power supply, RCA outs, 96 kHz, Focusrite 24-bit audio output.

Missing for me: A combo hi-z/XLR mic input. If it had this I'd snap it up immediately. Someday the perfect device will be created.

I like the idea too, but I also miss the guitar input. A no-no for me.
Also they say about iPad connectivity, but I think it doesn't power the iPad also. I might be wrong.
I like the dock better. Griffin has an interesting dock, but it's coming soon for about a year now )
if it doesn't power the iPad,
KnockOut.
and yes a combi xlr/hi-z would be essential too for most musicians....
@obiwahnkentobi Yes, for me the power for my iPad is the best thing, if it have this I buy it right now...
You just put a mini mixer in front of it and it is for all the musicians, electronic or not. What I like about this is that you can send a click track to a drummer through the additional outs. Also the price in the Uk is already below £100. Why am I always broke?
Edit: also the fact that it is not a dock makes it future proof. I likey very much, come on payday!
In fact, this is an audio and midi interface in one box. Isn't it the first in its class?
That's a key factor for me. I don't want an audio interface to become obsolete because I've bought a new model of iPad.
The description page says 'without draining your iPad battery as quickly' so I'm taking that as a no to charging the iPad.

No...the Akai EIE has had that for some time.

But not usb midi
Yes...it has 3 usb + hub and DIN.
The Akai EIE is great. The only downside, or "downside" as the case may be, is that it's 16 bit/44.1kHz. The EIE Pro is 24 bit/96 kHz but doesn't appear to work with the iPad, even though it is externally powered. A class compliant Pro would be outta sight.
I am really on the fence about 16 vs. 24 bit. This is the reason I haven't taken the plunge with the EIE. I haven't reached a conclusion about how important this is to me or not though I am leaning toward not important.
Any audio interface I buy, though, has to be usable on my iPad and Mac.
I hope for EIE Pro mk2....
Ah, ok, didn't realize that. Still the novation box is smaller and if I bought another akai thing they may just as well pay me for the endorsement.
