Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

The Sound Test Room features the Memory Collection packs (video)

edited September 2023 in Other

Doug Woods published yesterday this great overview of my Memory Collection packs. In it, he talks about the concept, browses through many of the samples and also uses some in different apps demonstrating a few of the different possible uses.

The Memory Collection packs are audio samples from Public Domain movies, TV shows and ads. The complete Collection has 24,074 samples in 13 volumes (10 GB) . Visit this page for more info and free demos:
https://lesproductionszvon.com/Memory_Collection.htm

It is currently on sale until September 5, 2023 (extended to Sep 19). Individual packs are 50% off and the and the 13 volumes bundle is $65 USD (a $44 discount), equivalent to 66% off the regular price of packs bought individually ($198).

Thanks Gavin! Indeed, even just browsing through them is fun.

  • In this excerpt form the above video, Doug previews sounds from Memory Collection 04 - Christmas / Winter Holidays (with toy ads).

It's near the end of the original video.

  • Wow I somehow never knew about these. Gonna definitely try to buy before the sale. Thanks for sharing here as I missed that video as well.

The Memory Collection samples are also great to create a short story and add a mood to a simple instrumental track, like I do in my Sonic Vignettes.

Here's the latest one I made this week: Trip to the Blue Moon
Short sonic fantasy to celebrate the Blue Moon! Spacy ambience created with the out of this world @MoogSynthesizers Animoog Z.
Speech samples from the Memory Collection packs.

Strange, I don't know why the video window does not show directly like in the posts above!?!?
    Maybe it's because it's a YT short!

That’s a cool jam! Sounds great.

The samples are from 3 different movies.

Making these vignettes is a lot of fun. My goal is to keep them short and simple, 1 synth track - under 1 minute, and fun.
Sometimes, I start with a synth sound that I like, play a little something and then find 1 or 2 speech samples that complements the mood. Other times, I begin with the words, to either make a joke or express something, and then improvise something as a backdrop for my concept.

For this specific one, I wanted to create something light and funny after having watched the moon that night. So I searched for samples that had "moon" in their name, then choose the synth, tried a few presets before choosing this one, played a little improv (I used the second take), and then added 3 of the 5 speech samples I had. I chose their order and location in the track to create the ambience I wanted.

Here's the latest compilation I made if you want to watch more vignettes.

Oh that’s awesome! I wasn’t going to be able to afford it this week so that’s great news. Thanks for updating!

    You're much welcome!

And here's the latest demo I just published. Made 2 kits in Logic Pro (desktop) Drum Machine Designer and used the step sequencer to create this crispy and nutty pattern.

  • Another excerpt from Doug's video, here he is mangling some samples in Bram Bos Hammerhead drum machine, Logic Pro Sample Alchemy sample mangler, Bleass Samplewiz 2 granular synth/sampler, Bram Bos and Hainbach Fluss granular synth/processor.
