Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Volume slider adjustment and bus to bus

Hi all,

I've got some question/suggestion stuff I'm hoping someone could shed some light on...

When using a volume slider widget (button of any type i.e. rectangle slider, semi-circle), there isn't an even adjustment throughout the slider.

In other words, it's seems about 80% of the volume is adjusted in the top 20% of the slider, and 20% of the volume in the bottom 80% of the slider.

Have I done something wrong or is there a reason it's supposed to be like this? It would be much more helpful to have more even adjustment as there isn't much 'room' at the top of the slider.

Thanks!

Additionally, as a suggested additional feature for the future, being able to route a bus to another bus would be very helpful!

Thank you!

Are you using the latest version? Recently, the volume response curve was improved for faders and knobs.

  • Hi @espiegel123 I haven't updated yet thanks. I'll have a go after the update!

Out of curiosity, what version were you running?

Fwiw, apematrix includes an AUv3 effect that you can use in loopy to send from one bus to another

  • I believe I'm now on the latest, 1.1.5. I tried the volume adjustment and yes it seems to be much improved. Thanks.

Also, thanks for the info on the bus to bus and the apematrix.

I'm just starting on loopy pro and my mackie mixer interface (profx 12v3) finally arrived today, sadly it isn't receiving anything from loopy pro, despite loopy pro receiving the Mackie usb send.

If any had any ideas on this please let me know. My guess is it's a faulty Mackie desk despite being brand new. As the audio is coming up on the loopy pro master, it's not being received by the Mackie desk. Same story with other computers I've tried with the same desk.

You might contact Mackie to see if there is configuring that needs to be done.

Does the iPad show the Mackie as the output device?

  • There isn't any specific place to discover the name of the output or input. Absurdly the iPad pro 2018 doesn't have any settings for audio (inputs/outputs etc.) Only balance and mono settings in the accessibility settings menu.

Anyhow, I've managed to get an extremely low signal to come through the usb return, but only through the desk headphones output. And it's super low....

I'm thinking this could be an issue with the usb hub. Although I did go for a fairly decent Anker hub, I just read it's often best to get a powered usb hub for these things, even if the desk is powered and I have power pass for the iPad...

Perhaps also there are some loopy pro global settings where I can up the usb output volume?

The which usb hub is best is obviously pertinent to loopy pro more generally, what with all the adding midi controllers, foot switches, keyboards etc.

Thanks, for reading on by the way!

  • @andykinnear : can you post screenshots of what input options show up for hardware inputs n loopy pro and what shows up as destinations?

Try rebooting and running any app other than loopy pro that puts out audio such as the Music app or GarageBand. Does your Mackie get the audio?

There aren’t any hidden loopy settings related to volume.

Does your hub have a headphone output? If so, that could be an issue. make sure to plug your audio interface in to the hub after the iPad has booted.

Can you connect the interface to the iPad without the hub?

  • Hi, so I've attached screenshots. Loopy Pro recognises the mixer (ProFx), the inputs are being recorded via the 1&2 sends.

The other is the destinations (1&2 and 3&4),

And the desk is able to receive a return for 3&4 but only through the monitor channel and as mentioned above, extremely quietly.

I attached the iPad pro direct to the desk with no differences.

I also tried in garage band and it's the same story, the 1&2 send works but not the returns. (Also tried on other laptop and Mac and no luck).

To be honest I think it's a case of returning the desk. It's not quite what I'd hoped. The return on the desk is ONLY available as a blend with tje inputs, and is generally not very integrated or adjustable. The usb functionality seems almost like a gimmicky.

It'll probably be better to use a regular non usb desk and get a dedicated interface?

  • Btw, for troubleshooting, I would use the simplest possible setup. Use the default project with no fx or sends. Load or record a loop and play it.

Try both 1&2 and 3&4 as destinations.

Also, contact Mackie, what you describe is potentially a matter of how the Mackie is configured.

I helped some troubleshoot Donets while back and after lots of messing with Loopy Pro, the person contacted support for the interface/mixer and found that something needed to be configured differently on the interface. If the interface is receiving the audio but the level is wrong, it is potentially a configuration issuez

  • @espiegel123 ok thanks for all the advice. I'll be onto the thomann support tomorrow and Mackie if need be. I'll give a simplified test again, but so far am not hugely impressed by the Mackie sound and prefer the Yamaha desks so won't be a disaster if I manage to return it. I'll update. Onwards goes my loopy pro set up journey!

  • Just to update this thread for anyone's reference.

The Mackie desk was returned due to apparent faultiness. So I've finally managed to set up loopy pro using a Yamaha mg12/4 to my Alexis io2 interface. Which works well and avoiding dubious built in desk interfaces... Almost there with my full setup to get going. Thanks for the assistance.
