Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Looking for general information

Hello. I'm new to this forum and using Audiobus. I've got Cubasis and some Audiobus apps (Gadget, iMS20, iElectribe, Funk Box, Thor, Animoog, DM1, Loopsque) I'm totally new to this. I have some experience with Reason for OSX. I have an iPad 3, but I'm looking at getting the new iPad Air 2 when it comes out. I'm looking for some links to some articles, websites, and videos to get me started. I need some guidance. Thanks.

These should keep you going for a while:

    http://www.thesoundtestroom.com/

    http://www.musicappblog.com/

    http://discchord.com/

There are more for sure, but these three have a very comprehensive catalogue of reviews, tutorials and general info, both articles and video. Along with this forum, days or even weeks of viewing and reading to go through!

  • @mkell424 Hello and welcome. You can also find a lot of great demos and tutorials on YouTube. Here are 3 for Cubasis:

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc4mXBevOE8

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpMw9OtW9Ds

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVNNjnHe4qo

Here is a series on the Fundamentals of Synthesizer Programming: http://www.moogmusic.com/legacy/fundamentals-synthesizer-programming

Most of your apps have a manual as well. Look for them via search or on the developer's website.

  • Wow. Thanks for the links! I couldn't find those in a regular Google search.

  • You are in for a great time! This is the best forum I have ever been on... these people are extremely helpful! Oh, and welcome!

  • Thanks Brain!

  • Welcome! I'm a newbie myself and never got into the forums thing but it seems like things are really happening here. I would never ever be where I'm at in my sound journey without this.

Oh and the people are indeed nice. I've been taking advantage of that. :)

  • You would think there would be a beginners guide somewhere on the web. Maybe a 'bible' of iOS music production.

  • Thanks for all the links! Are there any other links into the deep web? This is way better than a Google search.

  • This is an example of what a friend of mine calls "Human Search Engine". Get a bunch of experts on strange things in a room and ask questions. Especially fun when you get your McLuhan Moments (the original inventor/designer answers your question). Happens a lot here.

The FB iPad Musicians group is another good resource.

  • It comes at a price at times though...usually in the form of sarcasm....

    ;-)

  • Thanks for the info. Everybody has to start somewhere.

  • Been there, done that, and expect to do so again!

  • Well said. Still ... Anybody have more links?

  • Also - consider joining the FB iPad Musician group - you can ask lots of direct Q's there too and get lots of immediate answers as well as from here. A good number of folks frequent both places :-)

  • Cool. Never thought about Facebook.

  • I miss the iPad musicians fb group. It's the only thing I miss about Facebook.

  • This is something I enjoyed watching. It helped be a bit. I worked ok the day I saw it. :)
I'm also throwing the other video of the same kind.

It's by Ill Gates and he talks about creative process and workflow.

    The continuation.

  • Hmmm, Mr Gates is so ill he's faded away to nothing on my screen.

  • Hi @mkel424 and welcome. It would help if you gave us a general idea of what kind of music you're looking at making. No genre is as good as anything though.

Embedded Vimeo videos do not display on iDevices for some reason. Links to the 2 videos:

  • @supadom Thanks (and everybody else). I'm into electronic music. I'm not doing any live recording with microphones (except to make some quality samples for a sampler). I'm a hobbyist who has been into electronic music since I was a kid in the 80's, when I bought my first synth -a Sequential Circuts Six-Trax and a Roland R8 drum machine, hooking them up via MIDI to my Commodore Amiga. I had to deliver a lot of newspapers on my paper route to pay for them! I really got back into it around 2000 when Reason was released for the PC. Now days I love my iPad 3. I barley use a mouse and keyboard anymore. I've been messing around with some music apps but a couple of days ago I took advantage of the 30% off sale for Cubasis, and today my third party USB MIDI adapter arrived from Amazon so I'm ready to go! - BTW I'm going to trade in my iPad 3 for the new iPad when it comes out.

  • @telecharge Thanks for turning me on to Mr Gates. I never heard of him - also for your Cubasis and Moog vids.

  • You're welcome, but credit for Mr. Gates goes to @Macao95. I just posted links to the videos.

  • @mkell424 you're pretty much set with what you already have in terms of apps. One I may suggest to add to your collection would be samplr. Not sure how much it is but it is worth every penny and will give your digital mixes a bit of warmth. It is not just any sampler so don't be put off if you're not into samplers. Tabletop is another avenue you could explore. The app itself is free so no harm in checking it out. Tabletop is a closed environment but a lot can be achieved with imini and mpc pro that are purchased separately but function within. Some people don't like it but definitely worth a look. Good luck exploring.

  • @Telecharge

    Thanks! Didn't know that!

    @mkell424

I didn't know him before the video either. I guess he's a bit famous but I have these holes in my electronic music culture. Oh and I totally agree with @Supadom on Samplr. One of my go to apps.

  • Thanks for the help. I'll check out Samplr and Tabletop. Also I took advantage of IK's sale and picked up Sample Tank for 9 bucks.

I got my third party USB adapter yesterday from Amazon, plugged in my old AKAI LPK25 controller and I was surprised that Cubasis detected it. Cubasis even had the LPK listed by name. I used to work exclusivity with Windows and I was amazed back in 2003 when I switched from PC to MAC, how easy it was to connect external devices to OSX.

With Windows XP it was always about having to mess around with drivers. I have vey little experience with Windows 7. I had a client with Windows 7 that was trying to install a printer. It was a pain in the ass it is to get things working.

What I want to know is how my iPad and Cubasis detected the AKAI keyboard controller so easily. Is it something built into iOS7 and/or Cubasis? What is it called?
