Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Ideas for MIDI implementation/control with something like the NI S88 Mk2?

This has just blown my mind.

I'm new to this stuff, working with MIDI especially - I've just realised I can use the S88 Mk2 with LP via MIDI. There's 8 buttons (I think they can be used for press and hold, maybe it's either/or, not sure).. and 8 knobs.

I was able to set it up so I hit one of them, and it starts a track recording and acts as a stop/start, same way as just pressing the donut on the iPad. This is incredible to me.

I imagine this means I can set this keyboard up to basically act as a workstation with LP - I will be able to use MIDI to stop and start track recordings, switch instruments, use the knobs to adjust volume levels etc or perhaps for messing with things like filters or whatnot - this is just awesome.

Straight away, had to jump on here and make a thread to see what others are doing with this type of thing. This is completely game-changing for me.

I wish the S88 Mk2 allowed for use of more of its buttons for MIDI - feels weirdly restrictive to only allow 8 buttons, when there's clearly way more buttons doing absolutely nothing with iPad. On PC (and Mac I assume), these buttons have built-integration with most DAWS.

There's dedicated record and play buttons etc etc.. none of that is lit up via iPad.. can only use the 8 buttons and 8 knobs.
This is still way too cool - I've only had a taste of what's possible using it this way but I already know this has insane potential.

Would love to hear what others are doing with MIDI integration with their keyboards, I might steal your ideas. :dizzy:

  • I've just did a little playing around with an Akai MPK Mini Play Mk3 for the same sort of thing and I think it might actually be better - the A/B layer thing works, so it's actually got 1x extra knob and 8x extra pads, when compared to what's actually usable on the S88 Mk2 this way.

It doesn't look like any of the CC#s clash with the S88 though so I could use both of them at the same time which is way too exciting to even think about right now.

edit - the LED strip on the S88 Mk2 can be used. This is sick.

Do you mean the light guide (if so, how are you using it?) or the mod strip thing with the LEDs?

    The mod strip thing.

As far as I'm aware you can't use the light guide above the keys themselves.

  • AFAIK only Komplete Kontrol can interact with the light guide. A big shame. Even
    Kontakt can’t control it. Gah!
