Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Loopy Pro midi controller workaround help?

My Akai mpk mini died

I have a launchpad mini mk2

I can connect via midi to use it as keys, but each row plays 9 notes, then skips about 4 or 5 when going to the next row

  1. Is there a way to access the notes mode of the mini mk2 (or mixer mode or whatever)?

Alternately

2a. Is there a way to make a button in loopy Pro that triggers a keypress in Velocity KB or Xequence keys/pads?

2b. Is there a way to directly midilearn launchpad keypresses in any of the afformetioned plugins?

(Been wracking my brain for days, trying various methods, but to no avail)

Y'all have been amazing with the info I've garnered from these forums in the past, so thank you for all the knowledge (even if these questions don't pan out)

One option is to use mfxConvert. Route the mini mk2 to mfxConvert, then mfxConvert to whatever it is you want to control. Now press learn in mfxConvert and play a note on the mk2. Set the note that you want to convert it to. Continue with the next key. If you make a mistake, just repeat until you get it all right. Finally disengage Learn and save as a mfxConvert preset for future use.

If you do this on an otherwise empty project, then save as a template (engage the "star" on the project screen before saving), then you can launch new empty projects ready to go.

Does the Launchpad publish one or two midi ports? The later launchpads and the launchkeys have two midi ports one for daw/session mode commands and one for midi notes. On the novation devices I have, one has DAW in the name and the other is called midi out.

2a. Is there a way to make a button in loopy Pro that triggers a keypress in Velocity KB or Xequence keys/pads?

What would you be trying to accomplish? If they take midi input you could send it to them. But it is up to the AUv3 whether it treats the midi as a key press.

You can use midi learn to control AU parameters. But if those plugins don’t expose the AU parameters you want, the question would be if those auv3 have a midi learn system.

It looks to me like you might be in User1 (Drum) Mode if the notes are being skipped as you say. I've not been able to find how to change modes on the MK2 using the buttons. The closest I've come is to find a sysex message to do that.

Loopy Pro can send sysex messages. You could try setting up a button, or project-load action to send the following custom message to the MK2

    F0 00 20 29 02 18 22 02 F7

    or just use mfxConvert.

    Guys thanks so much!

Oh dope thanks! Just nabbed it to test when I’m home from work in the morning

I truly don’t know but will find out (even if just for my own knowledge). Always trying to lessen my own ignorance

I didn’t know if there was a specific message I could send to trigger a press in velocity or Xequence. If so, midimap the created buttons to the mk2. Yes, tedious. But I love figuring out workarounds with whatever’s available

Thanks for taking the time to help!

Ooooo yes will check this out tomorrow too!

I’m unfamiliar with mosaic. Do I need mosaic installed first then grab from that link? Or is that keyboard a standalone plugin?

Ah gotcha! Is there any listing of sysex messages for reference? For instance is there one for mixer mode too?

All this deeper end stuff is still new to me, but I’m a sucker for learning all I can for workflow optimization (not to mention I adore spending waaaaay too much time canvas building…. Thanks to a severe touchosc addiction years back)

I don't know about Velocity Keyboard. I doubt it. You definitely can't do that in Xequence AU Keys.

Yes, you'll need Mozaic to run scripts in it. There's a comprehensive list of available scripts on the Audiobus Wiki. You might want to take take a look there to see if there are enough other scripts you could make use of to justify the purchase.

If you do get Mozaic, to install scripts, download them using Safari. Then downloads button (little circle with a down arrow in it next to the URL bar. Tap the script. In the screen that opens up, tap the Share button at the upper right-hand corner and select to open-in Mozaic. That will open the standalone app and install the script. Once that's done you will be able to find the script in the AUv3 version. (It's easier than it sounds.)

Of course if you want to get massively distracted from making music but maybe have a lot of fun, you can try out some scripting. 😉

I found that info here: https://www.manua.ls/novation/launchpad-mk2/manual?p=6
I don't have a launchpad to test with, so this is all only "on paper".

Ah word! Yeah, I'll probably be checking that out... Aaaaand probably end up scripting my ass off xD. Thanks for the comprehensive info!

Ok, I found that one too, but it looks like it's for the Launchpad mk2, not the mini. Can I still follow the same sysex info there? I don't know how different the LP mk2 and the Mini mk2 would be in that sense (I assumed that the rgb options of the LP mk2 would make it different from the Mini mk2)

    Oops, sorry.
I don’t know if they’re the same. Documentation seems to be hard to come by for the mini mk2. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Haha you're good

    Yeah, I'm making that discovery

While I really WANT to pick up a mk3 (...I'm a sucker for rgb...) justification just isnt there.... But damn would it make a lot of this easier

Also, my desire for all USBC really makes me give a dismissive glace at the micro USB on the mk2 xD

    But, buttons is buttons

@wim I'm attempting mozaic right now. There are two steps in the setup that I'm confused about (via the link you posted)

(Control is there, just messed up, which I'm sure one of these will fix, just can't find info on my own)

    – Route Mozaic to Launchpad midi in, synth app, midi control

    and

    – Filter the synth app to channel 2 only (synth app hamburger menu, next to app icon)

First one, I understand launchpad and synth app, but not 'midi control' (is that Audiobus specific?)

For the second, how can I filter channels in loopy? I assume that hamburger menu is an Audiobus thing too

    Thanks again!

Humm ... I didn't write that script and haven't ever used it. Plus, the instructions are written for using it in AUM. Without a Launchpad to work with, I'm at a loss how to explain how to set it up in Audiobus.

It's going to involve sending the Mozaic midi output to the MIDI Learn receiver in Audiobus I think. "midi control" is the system in AUM that controls AUv3 plugin parameters, so MIDI Learn receiver is going to be the destination that relates to that.

Hopefully someone else with a launchpad will have some better guidance.

Aaaahhh ok word I gotcha! Thanks for the explanation and I appreciate the nudges in the right direction!

Mfxconvert is loaded and ready to roll for Plan B (and still completely usable)

I may reach out to the creator and see if they have any advice or insight

  • Updating with FIX!!!: creators' been helping me out, updated the script and includes loopy pro instructions!!

I mean, script worked fine before, I just didn't understand how to load it proper. Update allows for a midilearn to button 1 for play/stop purposes. THATS the added loopy pro feature xD

    Thanks for the help!
