Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

  • Push 3 Tracks starting to come out of the oven as i like to say :)

As usual, awesome. How do you like working in push 3 standalone versus drambo?

(Btw will you be able to load 3rd party vsts to the standalone unit? Like upload or sync it from live on your hardrive with the VST? Or do the devs have to kind of make push 3 vsts?)

  • How did that Catch plugin catch on with Pushanauts? (Especially in standalone)

  • No you cannot load 3rd party plug ins on Push Standalone. I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for that either, probably unlikely to happen.

Anyone want to play some Ableton Live Tennis. Here's a little groove I got going today using Simpler and some LoopMix derived Drum Loops...it should load fine on to the Push 3 or desktoxp.

to be honest adding third party VST's to Ableton push 3 standalone would be a setback more than anything.
Ableton got plenty on their hands with the unit already in terms of bugs, ironing out/improving workflow and GUI.

Let's see what becomes of CLAP!

Hopefully these 2 Berlin companies are talking :)

  • How are things progressing with the Push 3 standalone, anyone have any hints, tips or workarounds for the workflow, I hope to get one but never have used the previous two versions, only desktop Ableton Live. Thanks.

I use my P3 Standalone all the time. I haven't even opened up ableton on my MacBook to do anything other than transfer some M4L devices and different rack utilities to the P3S that are all ableton devices, like channel strips for quick dial in, etc. I have so many ideas captured and ready to go when I've got more time to finish stuff. But the ability to throw down ideas has been amazing. I think if anybody is thinking that they will finish songs on it are missing the point of this device.

The next thing I am going to work on are drum racks for "playing" trip hop to, but trying to make them around "building" the song as I go. I think there are some M4L devices that allow you to add the device to a cell in a drum rack and have it trigger a specific clip in session view. So I could have like 4 pads dedicated to 4 clips where I record bass lines, another 4 for leads, pads, etc. Sure I could prepare those previously and just trigger them as samples, but I'd like to get it to where I'm creating all the parts in real time and then triggering them from the drum rack in real time, not triggering scenes in session view, all while mostly playing the main drum pattern on the 16 pads and triggering vocal samples, stabs, etc that are actually samples in different drum rack cells. Do I plan on doing all of that editing on the P3S? No, I plan on doing that in ableton because that's what it's for. But then I can just transfer that set over to the P3S and be able to pull it up and practice whenever/wherever I want.

    .

  • Thanks @drez that’s how I was thinking about using it, which is my main workflow in Live now using clips and scenes, I do use quite a few m4l devices and I hear not all are compatible, especially ones with custom interfaces.

It’s great to hear you work standalone primarily, I hope to use it with external gear with my ADAT too, possibly live in the future if it is stable enough.

  • @knewspeak I will probably get an ADAT interface for it when I (re)build out my studio and use it there in a more "stationary" role, but it won't stay in a stationary role at all, I just like to take it out of the house and to different places around town to spark my creative energies. It is an idea generator to the highest order for me. BUT, I have owned all the pushes since day 1, so I'm very used to the interface, the pads, the limitations of it all. IMO, it's best to have everything as a preset that you can bring up and use instead of building chains, etc. For me it's all about speed of getting the idea down, not worrying about adding 7 effects, crying about "why can't I create chains?" or "why can't I reorder tracks?". Its like IDGAF, I just want to slap down the idea and keep rolling...in the coffee shop, at the park downtown, or on my couch with my cat :)

I REALLY would love it to be able to transfer Ableton Note sets directly to the P3S over WiFi. I'm hoping they surprise me with this feature! Would be fun to create a drum rack from samples I take on my phone walking around, then pop open my backpack, transfer the set over to my P3S and go from there. No MacBook involved!

100% this! Would also let you transfer sets to and from Live desktop without worrying about your audio settings. It’s a small gripe, but something I encounter often.

You have only a short time to decide whether to get one, before the discounted $1599 price expires on Nov. 30.

I went back and forth on it myself, and finally said "screw it, let's do it" and placed my order.

Also gets you the discount on the Live 12 preorder.

I got my order in, thanks for the reminder, yes I too was should I, shouldn’t I, but always put it on my long term gear list, but I didn’t spend much over the sales period so thought it’s as good a time as any.

That interoperability would be a great addition, basically any possible flexible options, to carry on creating via different systems would certainly make it the standout system.

Thats too bad, sure seems to be a lot of Push 3 duds out there. 😭

yep, its breaking my heart, just made some lovely music on it too but have to return it.

Hmm...if you truly 'love' it just have them replace it...otherwise you might be pining for it for a long time...but of course, having that cash back is always good too :)

This is my third unit already.

Have you tried the beta releases at all? They have fixed various pad issues with updates over time, some people who used to have problems don't have them anymore.

hey man, yep tried the beta same issue, if you Wack on the drift default, add MPE Control and highlight slide.

then test bottom row pads the low values are wobbly and can be seen on the MPE control, can be clearly heard on the drift saw wave sound too, it shakes around.

all other rows are rock solid, i think it's a design issue. there isn't enough senor space as the finger slides to the bottom of the pad... you hit the metal of the unit so i guess less senor recognition.

or it's just the bottom row have a fault in Manufacturing.

OK so I spoke to Ableton, going to speak to tech then probably try a replacement. I'm very inspired by this machine but I have to get a fully working one. It been a real hassle!

Will keep the forum posted as its important to show the down sides of hardware especially when the prices are high.
I feel many people buy gear and don't necessary use them so much and maybe miss some faults initially.

so, after months of pain the issue is now pretty much resolved after the hardware team started to see more units with this issue. the bottom row pads were the issue with slide function. To be honest it's been a miserable experience waiting for this long and not sure if it could be fixed.

I can now recommend the push 3 to people.

push 3 firmware fix is in beta so it should be released in the final version soon.

  • So it will be fixed with firmware upgrade?

    It is done:

I gave in and sold my Force, launchPadPro and other bits and got a P3 in the BF sales. Waiting for it to arrive. :s
.. Interesting that you are using it with the Deluge.. I was thinking it would replace my deluge (that I will defiantly keep for travels/playing out), and I would pair it with the M+, an iPad, and two RME babyfaces. (I have one babyface v1, and it works great as a usb host with ADAT I/0.)

    How I'm imagining my setup.

    • Mix/Fx/master + heavy synth is on the iPad
    • drums and bass on the M+ (Like the large sensitive Pads on the M+, and have all my multi-velocity kits/groups working nicely, and the extra real-estate when performing/jamming, to minimise changing pages/view on any device)
    • P3 for is sequencing, midi-looping, midi M4L, chromaticPads, and samples (inc. chopping)
This should spread out the RAM/CPU load between devices so I'm not hitting any ceilings.

Sweet setup. Welcome to the club. Can’t wait to see and hear how you are using it for your creative flow and creation process.

    Cheers!

  • Got mine late last week. I somehow overlooked that it has WiFi, which proved to be useful for downloading and installing the most recent firmware, downloading packs, et. Some packs took several minutes to install. The Expressive Choir and Brass Quartet packs were installed in a few seconds.

I haven't played Geoshred in a while but my previous experience on that app carried over nicely to the pad layout in chromatic mode. When playing, some pads will turn green to show alternative locations of the same note, which is useful for figuring out which finger should play which note in a chord shape or scale shape. Note slides/shakes don't feel exactly the same as on Geoshred's glass surface or on physical guitar string with frets, but are doable with a light touch.

To date I've mostly just used Ableton Live as a multi-track audio recorder, so I hadn't bothered to understand Live's sound preset management system, which is apparently the same system implemented in Push 3. So now I'm going through the learning curve of finding presets in the preset browser under Sounds, Instruments, Packs, etc. and oh yeah there's this rack thing.

Overall I'm glad I invested in this thing.

  • Just a heads up that Live 12 uses a brand new preset management system with tagging. So don’t get tooo used to the current method. 😉

  • edited December 2023

Great, by the time I've settled on what presets to use for electric piano, bass, and synth lead, Live 12 will be out already.

At least I've settled on presets from Expressive Choir and Brass Quartet, and one of the Session Drums Club kits as my go-tos.

The overwhelming majority of the bass and lead presets in Drift are full blast volume - no velocity control. I did find one lead preset with pressure control over volume - I like it more with the delay and reverb turned down. May look into tweaking the pressure response.

  • That was a great video. Love to see the behind the scenes of things.

  • @echoopera is there a groovebox that you dont have? 😂

Can’t say I blame you though I’m a big fan of grooceboxes and I’d have them all myself if I could.

  • Ha. I don’t have that many. I can’t help it. The colored pads do something to me 🤪
